Hi I was born in Málaga and grew up in Torremolinos. You forgot to mention Benalmádena which is 5 mins down the road in a taxi which is full of nightclubs and restaurants open till the early hours.

Another great video. Something that might surprise you is that Torremolinos is 'the' gay destination in southern Spain - it's centre is in the old town but it doesn't come alive until late with 20+ venues so it's not obvious. It's definitely *not* the sleepy town that you might think, you can stay up until dawn and get into all sorts of mischief if that's your thing! 😀

Wow! I am surprised... Thinking back there may have been a few clues but I was tucked up asleep by 10 every night so completely missed that!

Just back from there. I think because it is Andalucia, a lot of places don't advertise themselves as tapas bars and it's a given that a lot of the snack options on their menus are typical tapas. I had plenty while I was there. Good video.

Didn't go there for years because my girlfriend's dad went there before us and he was about 70 at the time which sort of confirmed a stereotype for her about it being a pensioners paradise. Finally went with our son and his girlfriend and you know what? It was a really nice place. We stayed further into the town so we'd walk to the centre or the beach which are both lovely with plenty of bars and places to eat plus you can still have a haggle in some of the shops. There's a good train and buses for getting around with easy access to Malaga. I'll go back if I can persuade my girlfriend to go.

Thanks Steve - it is quite nice! And that train is really handy too... Thanks for the comment!

Loved our visit to Torremolinos in 2001, visiting my parents who were on holiday when we lived in Benidorm. I suppose I’m happy being anywhere in Spain lol. Actually it does have places to party hill dawn, I guess you weren’t looking in the right dark alley lol 😂
@MattsPlanet Жыл бұрын
Partying til dawn doesn't hold the same attraction to me that it once did!!! It was also a bit close to the you-know-what when I visited so things weren't completely normal, but I'll keep my eye open when I go back!

I'm a Malaga fan and would rather be based there; as mostly authentic Spanish and offers much history. Torremolinos has historic 60&70's package break memories to be explored again but the city base offers more. Malaga is much overlooked as a destination and a significant Spanish City (despite all that cheap flight capacity flying in!). I've taken the train down to Fuengirola but Torremolinos would be my preference between the two for a nearby coastal resort break.
@MattsPlanet3 жыл бұрын
I like malaga too, but the chance to relive those 80s beach holidays was too good to pass by! For a few days in the sun, Torrenolinos is pretty appealing. I did pop to fuengirola too and thought I'd make a video comparing the two but the central "downtown" area was all residential so I didn't think a comparison video would be that interesting.

Wow Matt - this is the hotel I have stayed as well back in the day and put a TA review on it too. Hotel Isabel is a pretty decent hotel with good staff and decent facilities. I went in late April where the weather was warm but my main aim being there was to travel around Andalusia (Seville, Cordoba, Ronda, Malaga and Granada) as well as visiting Marbella and Gibraltar. Even a quick trip to Benalmadena wasn't too bad. I'll say the promenade walk in Torremolinos was actually pleasant. I haven't travelled as many countries as you but I did my fair share of travelling too (around 35 countries with 19 in Asia alone)

Next time try these bars for tapas: el Pórtico, Antoxo, la Campana, la Bodeguita, Bar Guerola, Bodega Quitapenas... you were just unlucky; McJamon is the worst/cheapest option in town.
@MattsPlanet3 жыл бұрын
Thanks - I didn't seriously consider McJamon - indeed I think they were MgJamon, for trademark reasons, which would be quite funny!!! I think my "mistake" was to look for restaurants which were tapas focussed, rather than having dinner at a bar that served tapas. Top tips for next time though - thanks!

Torremolinos of the seventies and the eighties is no more what Torremolinos now is like . It is dying .lots of old places for fun are either closed or have vanished forever . I was there for the first time in 1972 .It was the place on earth where people of the whole world meet and gather .the atmosphere there great and unbelievable .How I wish that atmosphere was still there .

... but it can't do toast. P.S. Interesting to see everyone masked-up. Spain's COVID infection rate is running at about a tenth of the maskless UK's. Looking at a dozen holiday options - and factoring in both medical and ease-of-travel parameters - it is Spain that is coming out tops. I suspect that the Canaries will get a ton of winter sun business in the next few months.
@MattsPlanet3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Nicholas. Spain is a decent option - although even in the canaries you aren't guaranteed heat through the winter. I'm in Egypt at the moment - hot tick. Cheap - tick. Strong mitigation measures - not even remotely... Much better tapas is Spain too...

😮 Wow! Yes, it is actually ex-pat, considering it was a military man by the name of Sir George Langsworthy (from Manchester) who bought the village long ago in late 19th century, long after the roman, arab and medieval occupation and turned it around as we see it today. Were you just there for the day or something? Its my first visit this May and I have learned a considerable amount from research, theres a large park, botanical gardens, an airplane museum with simulator, a designer shopping mall, a crocodile farm, an adventure park...the list is endless and yet you seem to put this place down. Seems to me that you spent soo much of your time walking through the streets and beach with the odd visit to old part of Torremolinos...and yes, there are actually 2 lifts (one is for going up and other one is for going down - no wonder people thought you were weird and looked annoyed). I can only hope that not all of videos are as boring as the one you have demonstrated in this...and this comes from a person whos never visited this southern part of Spain as yet. Please do some research first, before putting these places down...it would benefit you, the area visited and your viewers.
