Thanks Shawn. At 07:30, if you go to Settings on that page, you can turn on colours which show the approximate depth of those events. The very shallow tremors are marked in red. Slightly deeper ones are orange, then green and the deepest are blue.

Good evening, Shawn! Thank you so much for this first update from Iceland, it's so nice of you to do this when you've just arrived! And it's great that you were already able to hook up with Amanda Jo :) It must have been quite hard and sad to see Grindavík almost deserted and quite damaged... You were so right not to make a video there out of respect for the people and we appreciate your sensitivity. Ok, now it's time to enjoy the geology field trip with your lucky students! Have fun & take care :)

Thanks for this Shawn. We were lucky enough to visit Grindavik a number of months before the first eruption, and got to see how vibrant the town used to be. My heart goes out to those affected, and I appreciate all the work you're doing. Have a great trip. Iceland is by far one of the most uniquely beautiful places I've ever been.

Jet lag…I hit the ground running last year…OK walking. Maybe jet lag was present because I left my phone AND the map in my room. I got a very nice walking tour of west Reykjavik as I was lost 😳. Finally got some help and found Hallsgrimkirkja then I was OK. Enjoy the trip and tell Amanda Jo hello. Next few days could be interesting.

I am so sad and emotional to hear about your visit to Grindavik. I’ve visited the town 3 times for the 3 eruptions (2021, 2023 and 2023), spending the night at the campsite, enjoying their great swimming pool and restaurants… knowing that all this lively community has turned to a ghost town is so disheartening.. Hug Amanda for me, it must be hard for her to come back there. I heard that their famous Papa’s restaurant is still open… May be there’s some hope then…

Looks like a nice outdoorsy place to make your video; if there’s a good view, maybe occasionally turn the camera around so we can see what you’re seeing, although we mostly want to see you, too. Just curious about your setting. I am impressed by your decision to not sensationalize the damage in Grindavik by filming it. Tusen takk, as always,🥾🥾🌋 from Minnesota!

First of all, thank you for providing such insightful and accessible geologic information. I went to Iceland in 2022 and loved it. So many things that you don’t see in other places. One of the highlights was Þríhnúkar-Inside the Volcano. With all of the recent eruptions and discussions on magma, it seems like your viewers would enjoy a video on that tour and the views from inside an actual magma chamber. Enjoy your visit and I look forward to your updates from Iceland.

Thanks for the description of your visit to Grindavik. I did not believe it at first when I saw the GPS displacements showed about 2 meters of stretching across the town, mostly in November 2023. That must have caused damage to almost everything.
