This helped me so much yesterday! I was stressed once I got off the plane because I had no idea where to get to the metro. This really helped my anxiety. Thank you!

The airport metro station exit escalators and walkways are at each extremity so especially when in a hurry, be strategic with which Metro car you ride in When travelling to DCA from downtown (on both lines and in both six and eight train configurations) : Terminals A and B: Air Canada, Alaska, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United - Ride in the FIRST metro car at near forward-most door Terminal B/C and C: American and JetBlue - Ride in the LAST metro car by last door Arriving from Alexandria/points south, just reverse (C in first car, A/B in last car)

Just came from DC and used the Metro from DCA to My hotel near downtown!! Awesome experience!! So convenient! So affordable! Just walked a block to my hotel. LA needs to have this soon
@TripHacksDC5 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you had a good experience. I can vouch that LA airports are much less convenient to downtown than DCA is.

Just got back from DC and used the Metro to get from Reagan to Federal Center SW. The Yellow Line is currently closed so you have to take the Blue. Also, the lady in the Information Booth told me how to take a shortcut from Baggage Claims (Southwest) to Metro: go out the doors near the Baggage Claim, walk across the five lanes of traffic to the walkway, bear left (there is a small sign that says "Metro" - go under the bridge, and follow the signs to the Metro. She said this route saves you time and is much easier to use. My biggest problem with Metro is figuring out how to put $ on the Smartcard - luckily,, there was a Metro worker standing near the machines to help you and, on the return trip I just asked a friendly local to help me, and she was happy to do so. Everything went well. Thanks for your videos - they helped.

Hey Rob Found your video extremely helpful. Made navigating the metro stops a breeze. The only hint I would suggest is something I did. Took a picture of the Metro map and put it on my iPad desk top. Saved me some time and allowed me to study it while traveling

Thank you for all of your great videos Rob! I watched pretty much all them before visiting last weekend to see our son perform in the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. However, there was one bit of information that I didn't know about the Metro. It doesn't open until 8:00am on Sunday mornings. Ugh! On our way to the station around 6:30am we ran into a family hauling their luggage back to the hotel, who said it doesn't open until 8:00am. Long story short we had to pay $20 for a cab and gave our Smart trip cards to a worker at the airport who could use them :)

Just as a PSA, if you’re going anywhere south of DCA on the blue or yellow line between now and September 2019, there is NO Metro service due to extensive track work. Shuttle busses are provided if you are trying to reach these areas. Also, if flying to BWI, be warned that it is fairly far away from downtown DC if you drive. Taking the shuttle bus to the airport train station, and the taking a MARC or Amtrak train to Union Station will probably be your fastest option to get to downtown

From where I live, more flights go to Dulles than Reagan. Would like to see a video on how to get to Downtown DC since it appears the Silver Line does not yet reach Dulles. Thanks for all your great topics.

I get that; also, if you prefer nonstops, than Dulles or Marshall BWI are better bets. (For example, the ONLY nonstops to Las Vegas McCarron are out of Marshall BWI - it was, in fact, the only non-stop I have ever flown anywhere.) Why that is ALSO makes a ton of sense; Reagan has shorter runways; thus nonstops for long distances - such as McCarron - are not practical. Long nonstops mean you can actually NAP in-flight; Marshall BWI to McCarron is five and one-half hours; I actually got to watch "Willy Wonka" (the in-flight movie) AND have a nap. A true win-win.

This is how I myself prefer to get to Reagan National; the only reason I haven't used it recently is because the BUS end is now a commuter bus - not a MetroBus. I typically fly Southwest - which uses the old US Airways gates in Terminals B or C. If you come by car, you can take the free shuttle bus from any lot to the same terminals.
