What is up engine heads! Today we're announcing a new build that we will be following on the D4A channel. It's a brand new build unrelated to my MR2 and it's an Alfa Romeo V6 Busso build that will feature triple 48 IDF carburetors peering through the hood of an Alfa Romeo GTV6. So the definition of old school cool.
The build has already reached some significant milestones and in the near future we will be featuring the Busso V6 engine assembly, install, first start, first drive and more important events for this engine.
The carburetors that will be used on the engine are 48 IDF downdraft carburetors made my MaXpeedingRods. These are very affordable yet very well made carbs that will ensure an incredible soundtrack and throttle response for the V6 lump.
Thanks a lot for watching and stay tuned for more updates from this really cool build. As you know, I love carburetors and I'm really excited to be part of this.
A special thank you to my patrons:

The gtv6 kicks ass. Can't wait to see the build. I have never personally bought anything from maxspeedingrods. The idf carbs look awesome. In the past, I have occasionally seen Chinese carbs that had some metric adjustment nuts and some standard American adjustment nuts. This can sometimes be a pain in the ass. That would be my only doubt concerning this setup and for the cost, it is probably still worth it even if you had to make a tool specifically to install or adjust it. Thanks for the excellent videos sir!

A lot of shops down here in Argentina use them, same with his brothers the FAJS and the EMPI. They don't work as good from the box, and many dissasemble them and change all the jets for original Weber, also they check all the fuel and air passages, some casting aren't that perfect as they seem from the outside. But once dialed in they work like original Webers, and as they use them only in full throttle situations (1/4 miles) it's not that big of a deal for the street, i mean always with criteria, if you stuck 2 48 48 on a 1.6 4 banger, well yeah, you're gonna fill with carbon your sparks plugs, but for example, a 40 40 for a 1.6 gets ideal for races and the street. Good luck with the build, seems fun and noisy

It's better to find the older, made in Italy webers and have them rebuilt if you can afford it, rather than the now made in Spain or wherever they were since last I checked.. Its about the fitment too, my friend bought one of those chinese $150 Holley 4 barrel s and a few of the internal passages were not milled out correctly and he had to also mill the body and baseplate flat so they sealed properly onto each other and replace some of the jets and air bleeds with genuine Holley items as the supplied ones were improperly machined. So, although some may not agree, you do get what you pay for in the end..

This is random, but I thought it was pretty cool. So I was repairing a 2001 Lexus with the 3.0 v6 VVTI motor. Most of the design is standard, but it had one really cool feature. The bank 1 and bank 2 intake runners are divided from the throttle body to the heads, BUT it has a series of vacuum-controlled butterflies that allow the runners to be joined. I am no engineer, but traditionally, divided runners yield better low end torque and economy while joined runners yield better horsepower. Through a very clever engineering approach, this theoretically makes the engine capable of a better balance of horsepower and economy than a normal intake, and it is effectively self-regulating via engine vacuum. It’s pretty cool in my opinion

Don't use flat mesh filters, they restrict airflow to around 50% of 'hole' area. (depending on actuall wire diameter and mesh ) The Stratos filters, being domed have a larger surface area but still ain't exactly great. If you buy mesh to make some strainers , check the restriction per/sq/cm (or sq/in)

Hello, and thank You for another video. Just found it, 3 years after You made it. And, I must disagree with You. I am a (Ret) rally driver, built my cars and engines from scratch, and had Weber DCOE:s, all the time. They are anything but simple. Just want to tell a "short" story: I put together an engine, and took the car to a dyno. This guy had worked as a team mechanic, for a team with Ford engines and Weber carbs. He had a book, about 10cm thick! Firs he asked me everything, and I mean everything: valves, cam, displacement, and.........! Then, he took the book, opened it and said:"Lets begin about here." 2 hours later and several pulls on dyno, with changes of jets, emulsion tubes..., he told me:"I think we are almost there." "I will test one more size on main jet, a 0.1mm bigger". We lost 10 Hp! On that! He made the change back, I paid him and took that paper, for my engines performance. Happy and broke. So, to say:"Carbs are simple", No, they are not, not if You want the best and most, out from them. sorry to be a party pooper, but I think I know a thing or two, about those things. from a Finn in Diaspora

What's the jet situation on those? The reason I ask is I strictly run carbs on my drag bikes, and jets can become an issue. I prefer Mikuni carbs and when I first started out I fell for dyno jets tricks and tuning was a nightmare with their jets. It wasn't till I started using Mikuni jets that I was able to get things worked out. I have no doubt your carbs can perform good but I would stick with a well established manufacturers jets. Since those are knock off carbs the jets are probably copies of someone else's jets. Find out what your jets are copies of and use the established brands jets because it will make your life so much easier. Knock off jets do not perform the same as the real deal. Carbs are easy when using quality jets. You could be lucky and your carbs might have jets sourced from an established brand. Good luck.

fuel inefficient, ill tempered, way of outdated yes, in the power aspect surprisingly competitive :) i mean to few people realise if you are willing to disregard some fuel consumption they are a good choice compared to ITB's also FAJS is really popular here in scandinavia at least, half the price of webers and oust need to watch out for base adustments as they are terrible from factory and will need rejetting

@@David-lr2vi yes, if you waste tons of fuel due to stupidly big engines. That's why we use small engines (2 liters here is a quite big engine), burn less fuel, pollute less and don't need to "export democracy" (read: make war to steal oil) around the world.
@David-lr2vi

Alex-GenTLe. You only use small engines because your governments tax the crap out of petrol and diesel so you need to be rich to be able to afford a car with an engine with a capacity bigger than a can of coke. 😂. I’ll stick with my 6 litre V8 Holden Commodore for the rest of eternity and end up with a lower carbon footprint than people who change their car every two years because they have to have the latest model car. 😂

@@d4a hahah ok man, not the whole video. Just it was your first video I didn't want to watch cause normally I'm stuck till the end. I think it was the fact that you labelled it new project, then had very little to tell , ie you have a new project in the works, it'll be slow, and then the lingering love letter to your new sponsors product. I'm super happy you like your sponsor and they are paying the bills and their product looks quality, you know your stuff, I take your word for it, but it seemed a bit gratuitous by the end. Maybe if the video was done with the product in context, ie while you're putting it in it would feel more organic. Sorry man, I know the hustle and I wasn't trying to get you down. It was just a disappointment to read the title about the new project, see nothing of it, and then the long love letter to the carbs. It felt weird.

Got it man. I actually really appreciate honest feedback and you put it nicely. I totally get what you're trying to say, and the video is a bit sub-par. It's just that I've been doing videos every Sunday for over a year and I just can't get past not doing a video on a Sunday, and unfortunately I couldn't manage anything more this Sunday. But.. Lesson learned.

@@d4a the curse of putting out top quality content is that people get accustomed to it 😁. Like I said this is the first vid of yours that's felt flat for me, having said that I don't know how you do it week to week. I was watching one of your older vids again, the Bosnian coffee one. 👍 Really chill vibe, maybe stuff like that to fill a slot, d4a road trip to a car show etc. Save on the exhaustive research and stuff but still satisfies the algorithm.

That "salesman" speak sure made this machinist unsubscribe. No signs of casting flash.... Then points to one and calls it "grind marks". Trumpets smooth? Yeah but lousy matching to the cast body with irregular shapes. No mention of if the shafts ride in bushings or if they rest directly in the cast... Or the quality of the materials used (and high quality alloys cost). My confidence in this channel is definitely lost.
@d4a
@d4a 3 жыл бұрын
Those are grinding marks. That part usually has significant casting flash and then it's ground away. I don't understand the matching part, the trumpets are matched to the body just fine. Even OEM throttle bodies usually have the shafts in the casting. If you expect bushed shafts on a 110$ carb then you're a bit unrealistic. There's no salesman speak, for the price it's a really nice product and I gave my honest opinion on it. I'm sorry you lost confidence based on this, but if this is all it took, I doubt it's even possible to keep your confidence. Thanks for watching so far.
