He did but the difference between that situation and this one is that Tony Khan was 100% justified in saying that about Helwani whereas Levesque was not. Here’s why. So the Helwani interview in question was October 2022 and in the interview Helwani pressed Khan about the CM Punk Brawl Out situation (for further context Punk and Helwani are friends so you can understand where his loyalties lie) and Khan continuously refused to comment about it. Helwani would go on to later say that it was a difficult interview but the month before he interviewed Levesque for TNT Sports and did not press him about the original Vince McMahon hush money report from the Summer that year. To make matters worse in February of last year, Helwani would do several on screen appearances for WWE to help promote their Elimination Chamber PPV. Then Khan called him out publicly for doing so and he was right to do it because he got pressed in an interview, which for the record was fair of Helwani to do, but the issue is he did not do the same with Levesque and then proceeded to do PR work for WWE. You’re not a wrestling journalist at that point and that’s why I do not take issue with what Tony Khan did. Levesque on the other hand, when asked about Gulak’s release and if it related to Ronda Rousey’s accusations of sexual harassment towards him proceeded to attack the credibility of two of the most reliable websites when it comes to wrestling journalism and also did not answer the question on if Ronda’s allegations related to WWE’s decision to not re-hire Gulak. Say what you will about AEW vs. WWE tribalism but when an executive in the market leader in professional wrestling starts attacking the credibility of two legitimate wrestling journalism outlets that’s a huge red flag and the fact that none of these other pundits are going to call him out on it is shameful. To summarize, Levesque attacked the credibility of legitimate reporters. Khan attacked the credibility of someone who is not a legitimate reporter but gave off the impression that he was. That’s the difference.

What’s funny is that the dirt sheets absolutely saved the stupid, sloppy flipflop on Rock/Romans. When Paul couldn’t even come up with a reasonable reason for Cody to back off of his own “I’m abdicating my shot” promo, the dirt sheets kept it in the algorithm with a million stories about how it would all play out, and the WWE just ran with it until the fans forgot how stupid and illogical the whole thing was.
