I learned a lot of my building skills from my father when I was young (in the early 80‘s). Combining traditional techniques with modern stuff like GRP, carbon or 3D printing is real fun. Still learning something new with every build.
@flymachine2 жыл бұрын
I respect massively anyone who still has the patience and skill to build and cover in this world of ultra ready to fly, I did secretly wish it was a pure glider though but with that speed wing I imagine some high speed passes are in order.
@bavarian_rc2 жыл бұрын
There are the ones who like building and there are the ones who like flying. I like both! So the process of building a plane is something I really enjoy. The Triple Neo would also be a great pure glider but the next slope is more than 20 km away whereas my usual flying area is 2 minutes away from home. So having a motor is the most practical setup. Despite being a light weight build the Triple Neo can get pretty fast. Top speed was around 150 km/h in a dive. But due to the low weight it slows down pretty quickly. So typically I don‘t go too fast but just enjoy the great ability to float from one thermal to the other even over greater distances.

Thanks for your comment. Sticky tape is a quite simple and efficient way to make hinges. They are quite long lasting and if need be can be easily replaced. There was nothing magic to the CG checking so I didn‘t put it in the video. Basically I assembled the plane before glueing the battery support plate. By moving it forth and back with the battery strapped to it I figured out where to put it to balance without adding weight. I can focus a bit more on this step in my next build video.

@@bavarian_rc you got me wanting to build a plane for the second time (first time was a disaster, never completed). Im wanting to get a Kaos streamer wing. What glue is best, white wood glue or CA? Any one better than the other or just personal preference?
@bavarian_rc Жыл бұрын
Go for it! The Kaos looks nice. Concerning glue I think there is a lot linked to preferences. For glueing balsa wood I usually use white wood glue. It gives you more time to perfectly align your parts and it doesn't make the wood hard (like CA), which makes the sanding a lot easier. On the other side CA allows super fast progress. As you have seen in this video I also use CA in some cases and some other builds like the Puri, Shaka or Venice were mainly done with CA. Some combinations work better with CA, for example wood on carbon. Wood with metal (like the brass tubes of the Triple Neo) require epoxy. I hope this helps.

HI Robert, Very well done time lapse video of the Shaka design!!! I have made a 3-D print-out for the aero-naut servos. I had to remove about 0.5mm on either inner side of the bracket for a near perfect fit. So if tolerance allows, perhaps increase that measure by 0.5mm or 0.6mm on each side??? the holes for attaching the servo to the bracket are near perfect as is. Hence i am questioning if it is worthwhile widening the measurement or just simply filing away the excess material in order to have a perfect fit. If you do make a modification to the STL file i will certainly give it a trial in having a 3-D print made. Peter Have a Merry Christmas and may all the best wishes touch your life and your loved ones!
@bavarian_rc2 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, thanks for having a look at my Shaka video! Coming back to the servo frames I have a little issue when making the adjustment you proposed (0.5 increase of the space for the servo body on both sides). When I do this it intersects with the holes for the screws (actually cutting them open). Do you think I could increase the distance between the holes also a bit, like 0.5 on both side? I wonder why they made the holes so close to the servo body. In any case I made a new Version V1.1 (drive.google.com/file/d/1bao89wBdQm8YX4Qxk9BGyOjg_ymPBROb/view?usp=sharing) with a wider space for the servo body (0.5 on both sides). Mounting holes moved outwards by 0.1mm. Small doubler (or patch) put next to the holes which you can file down as needed (a lot easier than filing down the whole surface). I hope this works. Also to you and your loved ones all the the best and a merry Christmas. Robert

Belle vidéo👍. En version électrique, j'ai dû rajouter 87g de plomb ☹️ malgré le tube de carbone utilisé dans la vidéo.
@bavarian_rc Жыл бұрын
Thanks! A friend of mine had the same issue. The reason was that the balsa wood used for the horizontal and vertical stabilizer was more dense and thus heavier than the one on my Triple Neo. In consequence he used a 2200mAh battery instead of my 1800mAh battery and about 15g of balance weight in the nose. The total weight is about 100g higher than my Triple Neo. Nevertheless the flight performance is quite comparable. The extra weight helps a bit in windy conditions. The main advantage of the carbon tube shown in my video is the greater strength for torsional forces. the lower weight is a nice side effect. I hope you enjoy you Triple Neo!

You should try carbon fibre at some point instead of fibre glas ... more durable . Excellent video!

Thanks! Carbon is magic but you always have to make a trade off between price and effect. Maybe on one of my next builds I can try.

Good Afternoon Robert, Have you news concerning the Triple Neo Thermic Time Lapse production? Setting up my build schedule for Spring & Summer. Greetings to Bavaria!!! Pietro
@bavarian_rc Жыл бұрын
Hi Peter ehm, I mean Pietro 😃, the plan is to start the Thermic wings within the next 2-3 weeks. Realistically this would mean that a build video could be ready around July or August. I was planning to start a lot earlier but I didn’t have that much time for building in the last weeks. Too many things to do, too little time 😂 Robert

@@bavarian_rc Good Afernoon Robert , That is very good news! I am in the midst of the Shaka build currently. Some glider projects to follow with one repair and one set-up. Final touches on the Avanti overhaul project an early planning stage for a SIG-Cobra project. That being said, all decks will be cleared for Triple-Neo-Thermic Time!!! Ciao Robert

Vielen Dank!

34:30 I don't understand, why you soldered two servo wires if there is only one servo in the wing?
@bavarian_rc2 жыл бұрын
The Triple Neo is a flexible concept. There are 3 different wing types you can combine with the same fuselage. I also want to build the thermic wings and connect them to my existing fuselage. The thermic wings have ailerons and spoilers, meaning 2 servos per wing.

Very helpful video thankyou. Is there an optimal ratio of thixotropy powder, microballoons and resin ?
@bavarian_rc2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I usually mix thixotrophy powder and microballoons 50:50. If I want the resin to stay where I put it and not run away then I add thixo and micro until the resin has a consistency where the little spike that you create when pulling out your mixing stick from the resin is staying as it is and not flowing back. You can see it at 03:51

Does it have everything you need to build all three wings? If not, can you build the big wing with removable sections in the middle to make all three usable?
@bavarian_rc2 жыл бұрын
Hi, you need to decide which version you want to build and buy the respective kit. The kit only contains the parts for the one version. Consequently the Triple Neo can be ordered in 3 different kits. If you also want the other versions then you can order the wing kits separately. I have already bought the thermic wing and will build it during this winter. It can then be combined with my existing fuselage. Building the big wing with removable sections could be possible if you modify it but that will certainly add some weight.

I never thought that custom printed stickers could be so pimp. Kudos. The fact that you're holding a wing just kicks it up an uber notch. 54:14 If that was made from a real pic, what model wing are you holding?

Excellent build video, thank you for going to the trouble of publishing it. I have recently purchased a Speed wing kit and the pod and boom fuselage. I'm sure this tutorial will be of much help to me. What is the wall thickness of the CF tube you used for the fuselage? Greetings to all from Harrison, AR, USA.
@bavarian_rc2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! The wall thickness is only 0.5 mm but due to the fibre orientation in 2 directions it can handle the loads quite well. Even though I have to say that the tail looks a bit shaky. But the old rule seems to apply: things that bend don‘t break. The shop where I purchased the CF tube is specialized on such gliders and they recommend this tube for tail designs like on the Triple Neo. Had no issues so far during all the flights. Enjoy your build!

This works quite fine with the recommended motor (Aeronaut actro-N 28-4-880 brushless Motor)

Thanks. Unfortunately I am not sure to have understood the comment completely as Google translate doesn't translate Italian very well. "mappe" is translated with "map" which makes not sense to me. "nastro" seems to be tape, but not sure which one you mean. Maybe you could explain again ... and I will re-try with google translate. Best wishes from Bavaria

Thanks Mirko. Now it's clear. The tape hinge for the elevator, rudder and ailerons works really well. I am using this simple method since years and had no problems. The manufacturer of the kit also recommends this solution.
