There are several other attachments for the 2x72 grinder that I just don't have. Those might include a rotary platen, slack belt attachment and a few others. Any other attachments you have that you really like I should mention in the future?

Wanted to say I finally got my Tyrell knife works 18” mag chuck put together. Wow it’s so much better than my 10” mag chuck. Now I can get longer blades surface ground much easier. Fast shipping and a great product and awesome price. If your wanting a surface grinder order his mag chuck. He’s got a parts list on his video going over surface grinders. Super affordable and worth every penny.

I really want the small wheel, and the surface grinder attachments. But, I need to get a 2x72 with a VFD before I do that. I have a modified Grizzly 2x72 with glass platen and tilting work rest at the moment.

Absolutely you need the vfd first. You can't run the small wheel at full speed, you'll burn out the bearings. Thanks for watching, Mark.

Little tip I have a brodbeck take some of the magnets you use to make the mag chuck glue them to your base of your rest makes adjustment so much easier little tap done and flipping is so much easier than the screw that’s provided that thing was always getting clogged with filings

@@TyrellKnifeworks it is I did it you really have to pull on it to get it to move jest give it a try don’t glue them it a lot easier than the screw in just by tapping it you can get it super close to the belt

I love your work, your channel is a goldmine of information. I'm looking at building a 75x2000mm grinder and some attachments to get into making knives seriously and to help with some machining projects. How important is it for knife work to be able to run the thing in reverse? I could probably have a simpler tracking system if it only had to handle the belt going one way.

It's really not critical to run your grinder in reverse. There are some rare occasions where its useful but I would guess maybe 5% of knifemakers ever use that feature. Thanks for watching, Matthew!

I found that the few things I can't really work without are a 10 or 12" wheel, the small wheels and you do need a VFD to really run the latter if you go too fast they tend to cook bearings. The rest really depends on 'what' you're making mostly, like my waterfall platen is very cool but I circumstantially don't do a lot of plunges so its 'mostly decorative' until I do a run of smaller paring knives and stuff. Out of them all, my vote is for a big wheel, they remove a lot of material if you want them to without putting a lot of heat into a knife which is also invaluable for things like post heat treat grinds and distal tapering gets so much easier. The rest you can sort of battle through and find alternatives if you're on a budget (like me!) then just get the stuff you will use the most and pick up the odds and sods after as they come on sale or you decide you really need them or can't make them any cheaper than the retailer can provide them at. I do recommend that people get even a little 6" disc sander of some sort, there's all sorts of sometimes expensive and bigger ones out there of varying complexity but having the tool you need now and not saving up for weeks to get the one you want has its advantages in terms of making product

Well I screwed up pretty bad. I got the Vevor 2 By 82 and converted it to fit 72in belts. The biggest mistake was there is NOT 2 Tooling arms. Or a tilting feature. Im going to have to add that tooling arm and build a tilting base. Somehow. Thank you for the tips. They really do help a lot.

Yeah, unfortunately the Vevor grinder doesn't have great reviews because of those missing features and other quality issues. Still better than a 1x30 though! 😉 Thanks for watching, Drew!

you have the video on making a surface grinder T#110; how much better are the ones you purchased, and what is the cost differential?

Buying a surface grinder attachment will cost you over $1k, some as high as $1300. While some of the prefab ones have nice features (switchable magnets), you're paying a premium for that. They are 3x more expensive than making one yourself (for around $420) and the end results of what they do is exactly the same. The one I made is within a few thousands over the width and about 5 thou over the length. The prefab ones are no better. Thanks for watching.

My grinder came with the aluminum wheels and they do feel like they bounce a little. I guess it doesnt absorb the force the same as my rubber 4 in wheel

Rubber is so much smoother for grinding. Think about replacing them sometime if the chatter bothers you. Thanks for watching!

All the Brodbeck attachments work on the Revolution, you just need a tube steel arm instead of aluminum. Just don’t buy the arm from Brodbeck and get it separately. Thanks for watching, Bob!

They are certainly priced comparable to other grinders on the market. If you are series about knife making, you need a 2x72 at some point.

As this fits into the topic of this video, what size are tooling arms usually? I'll be making a 2x72 later this year, and was wondering what is the usual size for tooling arms, as I would like to be able to buy, and use other ones without needing any modifications. Also, are they different for metric and imperial ones, as I'm going to be making this all to metric measurements.

The standard size is 1.5" square, so I'd think they'd standardize on 40mm. Check though.

Actually my OBM one has 2 rubber wheels, one above and one below giving a tight radius for any of the small wheels.

You should do some copper twist Damascus for cladding on your next san mai knife

You can do twist as cladding, but you can't twist a copper billet. It'll just shear apart. Thanks for watching.
