Great analysis :) I like how at one point you say 'we only have two marksman as AA, which is insane' and next round you sell one of them XD If at any point midway through the game your opponent had any any switch to air, he'd have won. Nice comeback though!
@WhoopedGG22 күн бұрын
Did I really sell one of them? Haha wow. Must have been a mistake. I hope.

He got the damage upgrade in the second round because it goes well with the fire badgers he just got. IMO
@WhoopedGG22 күн бұрын
Hmm. I didn't think of that. That's 27 extra dmg per second. I wonder if that's worth the 100 cost so early

Hi Whooped, this is bizarre but I was watching this game and my gf kept commenting that when you said sledgehammers it sounded like "Sl*t shamers". Now I here it too, particularly at 5-15 to 5-17. I don't know what you can do with this information, but I thought you might like to know.
@WhoopedGG22 күн бұрын
That is interesting. I definitely am saying Sledgehammers, although I mumble so I can see why it might not sound that way. I'll try to be clearer on it going forward haha

Think so? I was thinking Charged Shot so I didn't want to go Scorpions as well. But I could have not gotten Charged Shot and instead dropped Scorpions. I know for sure that would have stopped the early pressure.

I have one question... what's the point of taking aerial specialist if you don't go air? Aside from the free wraiths, not a single air unit was purchased or unlocked. I dare say the overlords would have been a better chaff clearing pick as well all things considered. Just seems a bit silly ignoring the obvious benefits you get from the pick. Still, a win is a win I guess, but we don't learn much from winning it seems. It's even weirder that neither of you flanked at all to mess with the aggro and shift the battlefield in your favour. I probably sound like a dick, which is fine, but tbh, this match was akin to watching 2 ai's duke it out...
@WhoopedGG21 күн бұрын
Regarding flanking, I didn’t go that route because I had zero pressure in the early or mid-game to capitalize on. Flanking is something I use often when I see an opportunity to manipulate the opponent’s board effectively, but in this case, I felt like it would have been wasted deployments that slowed down my board development and stabilization. Additionally, delaying their forces would have made the eventual engagement harder to manage, as I was already having a tough time dealing with it. In its simplest form, it’s better to 2v1 and 2v1 than it is to 2v2. That is the idea behind drawing aggro on the flank. However, that only works if I’m able to take advantage of the “2v1” situation. In this case, I wasn’t. As for not committing to air despite taking Aerial Specialist, I see where you’re coming from. That said, I don’t think the specialist I choose should always dictate a specific strategy. I picked Aerial mainly for the starting units. Committing to air would have to go a little deeper than what specialist I am. Early on, it became clear that focusing on my board and handling the initial medium-unit rush was the best path forward for me. I’m not saying air would have been terrible, it just wasn’t necessary to secure the win. Thanks for taking the time to watch and share your thoughts. As for being called a bot, I’ve been called worse :D

@@WhoopedGG It wasn't meant as a direct insult, it was just that both of you just seemed to be churning out units, despite both having a clear disadvantage against air. Instead of shifting the field, you just meatgrindered the way to victory. From a "war" perspective, it was wasteful and tactless imo... like... you just USSR'd that shit, lol. Idk how to put it, but it doesn't seem like "growth", because you're not utilising your units to their "best". I know it isn't always possible, but there's a mindset for me when it comes to strategy... win with the least amount of losses. If you lose all your forces, you have no one to celebrate your victory with. I know it's stupid, but imo that's what empowers a great player. At the very least, you could have used the free unlocks on turns you didn't unlock a unit to ensure the ability to respond possible shenannigans from the opponent, if they had the ability to do so. But seriously, a flank, even if just a single group of crawlers would be enough to draw even a single volley of the stormcallers, and that would enable a brief gap in either of your defences. At the end of the day, it's you playing and not me, I don't even have the game, lol. I'm merely commenting as an observer, but your habbits are really starting to show. If your opponent had gone air heavy with 3-4 Overlords and maybe arti (if he had), this match would have gone significantly more in his favour. Winning the chaff battle isn't always about who has the most. On the other hand, I do enjoy these interactions, and sort of understanding the methodology behind your decision making. From what I can see, there's a reason people like Rat and Stoney, even Cobrak, have followings. It's not that they're "better", it's that they're more prepared for a variety of possibilities, and often they can read the "correct" play from their opponents and force an appropriate counter. You don't seem to be as on point (this is again, just my assessment) in this regard. I'm not trying to force you to play in a specific manner, I'm trying to implore you to explore more options. An unpredictable foe is the most terrifying. Thanks for taking the time to read all this, and congrats on the win. *Maybe it's just that I'm not seeing "enough" matches, and the ones on YT just seem to be coincidentally similar/ habitual. On the other hand, forming a "habit", makes it easy to exploit an opponent that thinks you're predictable, so it might still work out in your favour... if you remember to capitalise on it... which requires you to recognise it at least.

I didn’t take it as an insult. If I come across defensive, that’s not my intention. It’s just hard to tell sometimes with text. I’m a coach in real life and I try to be a very honest person. I have a great deal of respect for feedback. I thought the AI comment was funny. It also offers valuable insight into a perspective I don’t get to see first-hand. You’ve watched and commented on some of my other videos and that support means a lot to me. Regarding using free unlocks, you are 100% correct. That is a mistake I’ll work on fixing going forward. I appreciate you pointing that out. My baseline in a typical game includes a flank to draw aggro. That is my default. However, I intentionally did not do that because I did not want to delay his chaff from getting to me. I gave this a lot of consideration and weighed the risk / reward. Delaying chaff, even by a little, compounded by the loss of two deployments, would have been detrimental-not beneficial. In a lot of cases, creating that gap is beneficial, but Mechabellum is a very situational game and this is a situation in which I did not want the gap. The habit comment is funny to me as well. Just to be clear, this is not me being defensive. The players you named are top tier and I’m not comparing myself to them or anyone else. I’m decent at this game, but I don’t claim to be the best. In fact, I’m the first person to tell you I have a lot of improving to do. If you notice in my videos, I never make excuses; I don’t blame starting specialists, I don’t blame unit drops or general RNG; and I don’t blame imbalanced units. If I lose, I may have an explanation, but usually that explanation involves me being outplayed or just making a couple poor decisions. (With that disclaimer out of the way, back to the habits lol.) I get this comment a lot-about being predictable. There are two things I want to say about this. First, y’all may very well be spot on. That said, I’m “known” for different things (relying on Scorpions too much, being a Fortress main, never building giants, never building air, only using Storms, etc. I’m sure there are others in there as well. The point is, I can’t do all of those things every game, yet different people think I only do-or never do-some of those things. For example, in my last six games, I think I went Scorpions a single time. Yet if you asked some people, they would bet money that I go Scorpions every game. It’s probably the KZbin effect, and I could be wrong, but I don’t think I’m as predictable as most people think. I will say, though, that I have a system and like sticking to my system-which might be where the predictability feeling comes from. The overall “feel.” Second, being unpredictable can force your opponent to hesitate or make mistakes because they cannot anticipate your actions (or get them wrong when they try). It’s a valid and effective approach, and you can exploit weaknesses with it well. It’s not the only path to success though. That is just simply not my style. I take a systematic approach that focuses on minimizing mistakes and maximizing execution. I think the difference between the two is that in being unpredictable, you’re trying to seize on opportunities and want to beat your opponent. Whereas my goal is to play so well I’m going to force my opponent to beat me. That is, my goal is to be consistent and solid across all aspects of my play that I leave no room for opponents to exploit weaknesses, even if they know what to expect. It’s one thing to know, it’s another thing to stop it. To put it a different way, unpredictability thrives on creating chaos, but a disciplined approach shines in managing it. My way isn’t inherently better or worse-it’s just different. And each game is going to be different. A good example of this is the Roman military. They weren’t known for wild and unpredictable strategies. Instead, they relied on well-drilled formations and proven tactics. They were consistent and had the ability to execute their strategies flawlessly. Another example is Napoleon. His tactics were fairly well known, but he still hit his opponents hard where it hurt. (My opponent did go three Overlords; I dropped three level-two Marksman that round in anticipation of it.) I apologize for the chapter book. Thanks for the comment / feedback. I love these types of conversations because they broaden perspectives and give insight into different opinions.

@@WhoopedGG It was an enjoyable read, and I agree with it for the most part. Upredictability on your side and your opponent's side is for the most part controllable. Everyone plays on a pro vs. cons setting, whether they admit it or not. This can be utilised fairly easily by simply looking at 2 variables, "what would be the most effective choice vs. what I'm facing", and "what would I pick to counter the opponent's selection". This is the case for 90% of players, which I think you can agree with. There's an "optimal" choice and the "preferential" choice... knowing how to influence it takes experience more than anything else, which is why I advocate for you to use multiple strats as opposed to a simple tried and tested method... I loath the word META, since it's considered the "overtuned standard"... like Fortress-stangs used to be. It's for this reason that I enjoy the challenges that you set, since it forces you to use the units you otherwise wouldn't. I've said it before, but experimentation leads to new discoveries. You aren't Napoleon or the Romans though, so why immitate them when you can exceed them? The habits are 100% YT's fault, since, like I said, we only see select games and not all of them, and the ones we do see are all somewhat similar. That being said, the Testudo formation seems like it would be great in Mechabellum, but then again, with EMP, Electro Storm and Orbital Bombardment, it will get screwed fast, albeit on a 1-3 turn cooldown. There are ways to make it work though, and even more ways to shut it down in return. I will atleast acknowledge that in this game, you did technically force your opponent into a sub-optimal pick, whether you realised it or not. Your opponent went multi-melter because they assumed the Scorps would come... so that did work out in your favour. I saw someone in comments pointing out that you took the scorp upgrade without purchasing scorps. It's technically money wasted, but not actually, since your opponent wasted more in anticipation of it. I still haven't seen anyone play a "stealth" comp either, given that it's easy now with 3 cloakable units (Worms, sub crawlers and phantoms). That's definitely a strat worth testing, if you can focus aggro on one point, and strike the back/ sides with unmitigated force. Explody Rhinos are a suggestion, or spider mines for the aggro part... a mutualy destructive setup. It's like the opposite of a replicate loop. I love that options like these are possible, yet no one "seems" to be exploring them... maybe I'm just projecting my issues with players in general onto you, but then again, you seem to be the only one actively reading and engaging with all the comments. So thank you, and good luck. I'll keep watching, and probably be posting long/ useless comments for the sake of conversation, if I have nothing of note to mention or add. OR... you could just... idk... "Bot" your way to the top 100... that would also be funny af in its own right. "I was called an ai by a viewer, so I developed this ai steamroller strat"... I mean... you can see it, right? 🤣 Hope you have an awesome day man.
