Since you backed the smaller rectangles with the same color as the card stock, couldn't you just have placed them inside using the cardstock as the backing? Or was it just because you wanted them elevated a little? Just wondering. Thanks, Jessica. Nice technique.

Great question! Because of the way the patterned paper is cut, the pieces are nested together in a way that there is no space in between them for the solid card stock to show through. If you figure out an easier way though please let me know!

For this technique you can also use the dies that are a size up from your patterned paper pieces

You could try this same technique cutting your paper with a paper cutter or using different die shapes!

You don't need a machine, but doing this technique with dies does make it easier, especially easier to line up the design on your patterned paper.
