I like to think that the "triple trouble" was intended to just be tails, sonic and knuckles, but then when sonic wanted to wrap it up robotnik just cut in out of no where and sonic had to take back control I feel like this idea, although likely not true, is strengthened by the fact that he just kinda awkwardly cuts into bf's last few notes
