Who's Fannie?! Fannie Farmer was THE American Culinary Expert from the 1800's who is the author of one of the best selling cookbooks: The Original Boston Cooking-School Cookbook 1896. I'm starting off this cookbook residency with her Apple Pie recipe from the 1800's.

Recipe:
(I doubled all of this)
pastry dough:
1 1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup lard
1/4 cup butter
1/2 tsp salt
cold water
filling:
4 or 5 sour apples
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp grated nutmeg or cinnamon (or both ;))
1/8 tsp salt
1 tsp butter
1 tsp lemon juice
few gratings of lemon juice
