Interesting to see a quite recent flight on a Soviet/Russian aircraft. At one time I used to fly pretty regularly on a smaller Soviet aircraft the Tupolev 134 between Hanoi & Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in Vietnam, where I lived for a few years in the early-mid 1990s, I believe most of these aircraft then in use in Vietnam had been acquired from Interflug, the East German airline, when East Germany was absorbed into West Germany to form today’s Germany. They were reputed to be better maintained than aircraft acquired from the USSR. They were comfortable enough to fly in with notably shallow lengthy and smooth takeoffs & landings, with the cabin becoming foggy with water vapour from the air vents, specially at takeoff, but their somewhat patchy safety record did give one pause.

It definitely isn’t good for the environment as it use old engines, because of that it also costs a lot to operate this plane as it requires more fuel. I’ll prefer airlines to use newer, more efficient and more “green” planes, like the a321xlr or the Boeing 787.

Cubana already have orders for the Il-96-400. One advantage it has over the -300 is that it's not only bigger, but it has a 2-man crew as opposed to the -300's 3-man crew.

It is quite unfortunate they stopped making these beautiful jets. RAC should do more in marketing their stuff. Honestly, Russian jets are pretty good and can be of good help if they work on the after-sales support and parts distribution network worldwide. Boeing and Airbus have a very strong distributor network that sells their aircraft.
