John Morrison shouldn't have snubbed Trish with the handshake but I can understand his frustration with the match in general. You had Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison who could've had a banger of a match at Wrestlemania, but instead it was a 3 minute mixed tag to showcase Trish still had it and then show that Snooki can cartwheel.

The logic makes no sense though. And him making it a problem to have a certain someone there instead of Trish Stratus was ridiculous. This match clearly served as a promotion and to bring mainstream attention to the industry.

You’re ignoring the fact that he was angry thinking that Trish took Melina’s spot and money away from her (notice she wouldn’t even BEGIN to actually name her so she’s still pissed at her) but it no doubt gave Melina more time to have sex with Batista and not him since he allowed it.

Chyna, Trish, and Lita were pioneers in women's wrestling. In the late 90s and early 2000s, they took a big risk in trying to shift the industry's view of female performers from eye candy to wrestlers. These were days were there was no NXT to train at and performers had to forge their own way. Today's generation of female performers have taken women's wrestling to another level thanks to the efforts of these 3. Well Done Trish, Lita, and Chyna along with the other female performers of the era. I'm from Toronto, like Trish. When she was growing up in the 1970s and 80s, you would have never imagined that anyone from this area would go on to have the success they have had simply because there was limited opportunities to get into wrestling. Yet, Trish, Edge, and Christian all did. So proud of all 3.
@joeseph18
@joeseph18 14 күн бұрын
Yes, they are pioneers, but it wasn't solely down to them. Ivory, Jacqueline, Molly Holly, Jazz, Victoria etc. all deserve recognition to how they put over those 3 women; Ivory in WM against Chyna as an example. Not only these women; but women from times past; Wendi Richter for example deserves a mass amount of recognition for how many eyes she brought to WWF in the 80s, alongside Cyndi Lauper

It got traction because wrestling is based on respect in the locker room. Trish is wrestling royalty. She’s an icon, an attraction, a star, and a Hall of Fame legend. John Morrison was not. He already had a reputation as being weak in the locker room due to Melina’s treatment of their relationship. But when he took it as far as disrespecting a beloved Hall of Famer, he crossed a taboo line. It wasn’t any coincidence that he was released at the end of the year along with Melina.

I agree that Trish never needed Playboy. She was already on her way to becoming a professional wrestler. Sable and Chyna turned wrestling into celebrity entertainment when they did their releases, which was Sable’s drawing factor to her fame. Trish has had a much longer and memorable career focused on wrestling rather than using her platform in wrestling for adult and celebrity entertainment.

No, you CAN blame him. 1) Melina had a reputation for sleeping around with other guys While she was with him, including Batista, who wrote about this in a book once. As a result, other wrestlers during that time viewed him as a “nice guy but let other people bang his girlfriend.” 2) Trish is a Hall of Famer. She’s wrestling royalty, a forever favorite in WWE, especially in the locker room and with management. John Morrison had not earned that cred. For him to disrespect a legend like Trish was considered unprofessional. 3) That stunt cost them both. Melina continued to slide down the card that year until she was released. Same with Morrison. They lost out on their dream jobs over one spot. Not a good decision. 4) The word was that Melina put John up to it because she had it in her head that she should have been in that WrestleMania match instead of Trish. Trish was put into the match because they brought back “Tough Enough” with Trish as one of the judges and management made the call to put her in the match to promote the show. It was business, not personal.

Indeed. She was always really bland and cliched when she was a face, especially post 2003. They made her quit being as erotic after that year and she wasn't what she used to be. But that 2004/5 heel run was a true last hurrah to her earlier edgier self and she made the most of it. That lingerie outfit she had to Lita/Kane's wedding was one of the sexiest things I've ever seen a woman wear, it rocked my 11 year old world lol. She was so into it which made it work much better, most women wrestlers don't know how to embrace being a heel but Trish was one of the few who did. Her slutty golddigger gimmick in 00/01 was top tier, as was her demented and arrogant bully character in 04/05.

Melina thinking she deserved that WrestleMania match over Trish was absurd. This was not 2007 or 2008 or even 2009 Melina, her peak years. Those years for her were like Alexa Bliss from 2016-2018; she was a star at the time and it was undeniable. But by 2011, that star power was gone. She was in her 2022 Alexa Bliss time; just a name, but without the aura. Trish is a legendary star. There was no way you don’t put Trish in the biggest show of the year if you have a chance to bring her in.

You’re saying Melina’s star power was gone by 2011, yeah because WWE didn’t elevate and capitalize at her talent by that time and started to focus on Kelly Kelly, who was the champion at that time. Had they given her a heel platform or made her Kelly’s biggest rival by bringing her bratty character back, Melina’s star power would’ve risen instantly. Melina is a total package. Trish is being consistently pushed because WWE likes her, that’s bias and that’s it. I mean, besides Trish, Lita, Beth Phoenix, Madusa, who are the Hall of Famers that WWE are recognizing and giving platform up to this day? Could you say the same thing about Moolah? No, they’re not honoring her anymore, same goes to Mae Young. Sherri Martel? They have forgotten about her, they just included her in the WWE 2k24 but that’s it. Wendi Richter, Sunny, Ivory and Jacqueline are often the forgotten Hall of Famers and that’s because WWE don’t capitalize on their talent.

Wasn't it Melina at the time, that Morrison felt like the spot should've been for? I was really happy it was Trish, because it was time for Michelle McCool to take on a legend, and see how it unfolds.

By 2011, Melina was a non-factor in WWE. Why would she think she’s entitled to be in Wrestlemania when being on Raw or Smackdown was a novelty.

BINGO. I liked Melina in her day. But by 2011, she had permanently moved down the ladder. This wasn’t 2007 or 2008 Melina who was on fire and was along with Mickie James one of the two biggest stars the women’s division had. And she already had back to back WrestleMania matches where she was in the spotlight. By 2011, it was clear the company was moving past Melina. Their priorities that year were Michelle McCool and, after Michelle retired, Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres. We still were one year away from the rise of AJ Lee. It sucked, but Melina’s time was coming to an end. Melina just did not belong in that match at that WrestleMania.

very disappointing that she didn't get involved at MITB... why have they left the Zoey Stark story incomplete? Perhaps Trish will return later this year to join 2 other women in a feud against Zoey / Shayna / Sonya?
