A classic example of the uk aristocracy removing what contemporary people called the scum layer (a reference to foam on top of open beer fermenter kettles) from their society. it's amazing how people judge ancestors during times of living we know nothing about living in. You had to live to survive and live to let your families survive, there were no big laws and protections that exist now, all these people were survivors for each generation.
