Is there a reason why you chose to go there in September? Is that the time of year when there is the highest chance of good weather? Very good documentary!
@alexwonner74697 ай бұрын
Not really. They are only very few days a year when there is a “window” of opportunity. The sky must remain clear at least for 12 hours. The weather can change very quickly there. Only the Tristanians know when the weather is right. The wind must also blow for a certain direction. Mainly from the South. So only few days a year are suitable.

Great video - rare to see such a detailed climb to the top of the peak and the heart lake. Apparently the peak is a trip all islanders must do once in their lives - like it’s their Mecca! Did you visit The Ponds? Apparently there are fish in them. And what about Sandy Point - on the warmer more sheltered east side of the island? Sandy Point has a forrest and fruit orchard that the islanders visit in “happling season” to pick apples and pears.
@alexwonner74697 ай бұрын
Well in the past thr young islanders and the old ones used to go there. Not anymore. They have 4x4. Saw Sandy Point but could land there. Sea was too rough. Been at the Caves. Been swimmimg in the pond. Back to the peak on the first occasion…

Wow. What a place it is, a snow-capped peak in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Once-in-a-lifetime experience. This place seems to be a hiker’s paradise. If local people and local government find it appropriate, they may develop a hiking track and one or two huts at or near the peak for a night stay. I am sure hikers and tourists will find it most attractive to visit this remote island. But not sure how much the pristine nature and environment will be damaged due to such commercialism and interference in the life of locals. We humans are the biggest enemies of this earth and its natural beauty. Wherever we go, we spoil the nature by the weapons of commercialism. Still a very good V-Log.

Why there are no plants, trees, birds and animals on this island?

There are plants and animals lower down. This is about 2,500m. Very cold and no trees.

The plateau areas at roughly 750m is relatively flat and surprisingly void of wildlife. It surprises me that it’s not more covered in denser shrubs and potentially even trees (on the sheltered lea side of the island). I know it gets windy and cold up there and perhaps the soil is not rich enough?

Thank. you for such a great show! I've always wanted to see Tristan de Cunha. How did you make it past the mass delusion psychosis of the COVID hysteria in 2021 to actually get on the island?
@alexwonner74697 ай бұрын
Well I was stuck here for 2 years. I was supposed to be here for 8 months.. We never had covid at that time because we close the island to the outside world!
@flyingchimp128 ай бұрын
I’m interested to know is this something just about ever Tristian does? Do they hike around the island pretty regularly? Just seems cool to me to be able to map out the entire area you live in and actually walk around it all
