Learn double short stick. Learn the 8 direction footwork so you get good at moving away and moving in spontaneously. Learn to control the energy of the knife fight. I have a full set of weapons and like to train empty hand half and weapon half. You learn some amazing skills from the weapons. I love your jiu-jitsu. I am getting into Gracie jiu-jitsu. I just need to make the move. Peace. One Love. Mike.

Matt, I have done drills similar to what you are doing. I don't necessarily dislike the drills and enjoyed doing them but i do have a question.When you are setting up the drill you don't talk much about the range or the psychology of the confrontation (situation for the attack). The reason i mention this is you are starting the drill out of range or at long range, as your attacker attacks you are moving into close range. This creates issues as you saw at the end when your attacker stabbed you. My question is: Why crash in to short range if there is no reason too? You are starting out of range or at long range, why not continue to deal with him at long range with passes or even at medium range with some gunting towards the weapon? The closer you are the tougher it is not to get cut. If you stay at long range and you can not use the Nike defense then stay out and time the attackers attack. That is if he is not doing a sewing needle type attack. I say all the above with much respect!

Hey MARK!!!! Great to hear from you. Honestly, the reason why I teach entering in is because that is where I am more comfortable. The reason we are facing the knife is because we have no where else to go. I think in all realistic type of drills, if you're not getting "touched" by the knife, then it's not realistic. We do practice and train to keep it on the long / medium range. But in our "jiu-jitsu minds", once I get a hold of you, I can control you. For us, the entrance is the key component which allows to to control the weapon. Our methodology for this is: Remove the Target: hollowing out, creating space, avoid the circle of death. Control the Body: Entering to Underhooks, Overhooks, Joint Manipulation Control the Weapon: Removing the threat of the weapon, and controlling it's outcome. Obviously within that there are skills such as entering in, close quarters combat strikes, grappling footwork, etc. In regards to Nike Defense, yes, absolutely part of how we approach it.

It is great to chat with you Matt. I figured you were training ranges. I have found most videos that talk about knife work and drills don't talk about it. Also see many people out there not worried about range for some odd reason. I have been meaning to stop by the new place. Brian says it is awesome!

Excellent drills We use all of these drills or variants of in our training. . Your drills are very effective. Good solid training. . Having worked as a prison officer for 11 years I can tell you I was stabbed at only on 3 occasions 2 one one once in a riot with things on fire and craziness going on .. everything you teach here I teach now but based on those experiences . Great video.

"if you see a knife" [ immediately extend your palms and insides of wrists towards him ]. LOL! Then try to grab their wrist with both hands. When that doesn't work try to block with the inside of the wrist. Can you see where I'm going with this?

there are 2 ways a person comes at you wuth a knife..you either see it or you don't,,,please trust me ive lived a life of violence ,been a ,atrial combatant for 46 years,been a soldier.a bodyguard a doorman,a private minder,ive had 5 gang beatings,,nearly died from one attach,ive been stabbed,slashed. hit with bricks, metal bar etc,,please put true hate and intent into the attacks,,some of the best underestimated a knife attack ,and died from it,,remember this,,run unless your to close to turn your back,,,dnt try any drill I did seminars in the uk for 188s of instructors not one survive a knife attack,,make your own choice,,good luck

hi guys I live in England uk,,buddy its great what your doing but believe me when your in the moment ,,use martial arts secondary,if your in a bar throw glasses at them,and a chair is a great shield,,it works on lion tamers so it also works for us,,consider this when teaching your students what I call the hand change,,when you grab your attackers hand with the knife and he passes the knife to hes other h\and and tries to stab you,,,,love your videos,,keep up the great work,,try this get your students to ground fight and get as many people as you can to hide the knife,,great place I use is the ankle support,,clap your hands to let the knife holders to pull the blade from there ankle supports and see how many people survive,,hope this helps a little sir

@@tritacacademy hi guys thank you sorry for late reply,,if your ever in London I would be happy to show you the drills ive taught british police officers,,british army,,door security etc,,,i really am puzzled by ian moodys comments,,its advice like this that gives students a dangerous false sense of security that will get someone killed,,,as I boringly said ive trained since 1973,,and have retaught even prison officers,,every one of these individuals changed there approach to blades and edged weapons,,if mr moody has been involved in such violence how can he justify such reckless comments,,i guarantee if I attacked mr moody with a knife there is a huge chance I will succed,,sorry about my spelling...knife fighting is different from fist fighting,,attack a student with a rubber blade and he will be happy put a real blade in your hand and then asked the student how he felt after,,dont attack him but make him think you are,,,its a very different feeling,,my background just for the record is black 1st dan Shotokan karate.3rd akido.7th dan combat ju jitsu.black 1st dan freestyle kickboxing,over 20 years mma,bjj,,I hold no grades in bjj but have trained with brad pickett ufc,royce gracie ufc,,and many british mma champs who have asked my advice,,,research and watch violent knife attacks,,one simple mis calculation and your in a world of horror,,,,the most important thing if you have no chance of avoiding a knife attack is grab the wrist of the hand with the knife,,,,,,a mate of mine served in special forces and paras for 33 years he had been in northern Ireland,somallia,faklands,,,irac,,on leave on Saturday he helped a buddy out on nightclub security he threw a 16 year old boy out the boy stabbed him once and killed him just recently 2 very respected father and son bodyguards were stabbed to death in there own home,,the uk is now stabbing capital of Europe,,London hospital is full of people that survived stabbings,many I spoke to were highly trained in martial arts,,if you have faced danger you will know what I say is wise words to listen too,,,,also gun defence dosent exist,,if your man is 7 or 8 feet away with a side arm,,get on your knees and pray,,,if my advice upsets your fantasy world then its better than upsetting your family being told there black belt son just died of stabbing,,,,,,tritac mma are experts in combat im as sure of that as what ive just said;;….if your ever in the uk I will happily teach you free,,,,stay safe and hit hard,,assumption is the mother of all f@@k ups,

What are your favorite knife defense drills? A GUN !
@tritacacademy
@tritacacademy 6 жыл бұрын
Shawn Williams. Oh come on, that's such a cliché response :) Let's remove the fact that you carry a gun or you are unable to get to your gun... They ONLY reason you would actually defend against a knife or deadly weapon is when you are ABSOLUTELY forced to.

No not a gun. I trained military close combat and when you dont have an manstop ammunition the attacker can stab you even if you hit him a few times.
