The rules i have learned against knife attacks while im unarmed is RUN!!! (military friends who have dealth with knives in the service) If running isn't an option. Every move must be to kill and maim if you think the opponent is fighting dirty...set a new low. You are not fighting another human you are dealing with a creature that must be removed at any cost. Adrenline high, and no rules if you can rip their throat with your teeth do it the jugulars are on the sides close to the surface. Human teeth can do up to 75Kg of presure and many of the front teeth are made for tearing and ripping. poke out eyes. break fingers. Easy targets first cause pain, cause fear. And for all that is about life hold nothing back. the rest is for the aftermath. Right now you are trying to survive. nothing else matters. as a defence after just say you panicked. So long as you don't have self defence training that is. But that is just my two cents on the question. And i have ever only been threatned by a knife never attacked.

You're spot on. What you describe is called the Dark Place. You have to go to the dark place in any life or death siruation. And nobody wants to go to the dark place. Because it reduces you to animalistic brutality. But to survive an attack you must go there. And I have been in close to a dozen knife fights and knife duels. If you want to battle with knives then get ready to bleed. I get asked by commenters why I continue these fights and duels. First off. I come from the inner city hood where average life expectancy is about 25 years old. If you are challenged in my hood then you have to respond. If you chicken out your whole family is dishonored and you are ostracized from everyone. So you accept the challenge. I did so 4 times on the street. Then in prison again you have to accept the challenge. Otherwise you are ostracized and treated like a sex slave. Before someone decides to kill you. So you don't turn down knife duels in prison. You will have to segregate in solitary. Or the entire prison will make your stay like hell. I accepted about 8 of those duels. That was 40 years ago. So I have been to the Dark Place. Ask any combat vetdran. Any cop. They know about the Dark Place. Which is in you.

I was present at a knife attack unprovoked outside a bar by a woman. She slit a guys throat infront of me and as he walked off bleeding she than looked at me and yelled "You caused this". To this day im not sure what that even meant because i was dead quiet the entire night out like i usually am, very observant person. She then started to approach me with the knife exactly at hip height, and i knew i was next in that moment. So without thinking i began to back up, but she started matching and started slowly closing the gap quick within split seconds. So i began to run but right when i decided that she started running aswell. For a small chick she ran fast and im 5'11 and she kept up with me. Guessing the adrenaline was already pumping in her. Well i had 2 choices in the moment, continue running and get caught or turn around and fight back. And i chose to fight that night. I successfully countered the first stab with my arm causing the blade to ride up my forearm slicing my elbow. While that was happening i judo threw her to the ground and kicked her pretty damn hard in the face causing her to drop the knife instantly. I grabbed said knife and flung it flying into the distance before she ran off as i backed up. Literally this took maybe less than 30 seconds for all these events to take place. After she ran i made sure my cousin was unharmed and i walked to the stranger bleeding out on the sidewalk. I saved his life that night applying pressure to his cut jugular. Now im not saying fight knife attackers at all, running is the best option i say, just remember if someone wants you dead and they make that choice theres usually no turning back they will attack with such force and speed its disorienting and disheartening all at once. My best advice is if you have to fight, fight with everything you got like you stated, woman or man doesnt matter. The cut she gave me sliced right to the bone and i didnt even know i was cut until police flashed lights at the ground where i was leaking like a running tap. Chances of success are slim to non with weapons and the lasting mental effects arent worth winning in the end.

Fwiw, the point is that really you are training to just give yourself a chance. Don't engage in violence, because anyone who really engages in violence knows that it is unpredictable. Self defense is about avoiding violent confrontations, because no one can predict the outcome. His point here is that people can get a false sense of security about their training: you train, they give you some colored belts, if you think you are now ready to take on a knife attacker you are probably going to get killed. One of my shuai chiao instructors told us after a belt test that now we knew enough to get ourselves in trouble. ;) But the point of martial arts training is to give yourself a chance: I'm 5' 7" ~155 lbs. I'm not going to win any MMA titles, but if some guy does come at me with a knife, I want to know that I at least have a chance of surviving if I react properly. I had no experience with knife fighting and would stab or slash instructor with rubber knife when we were practicing somewhat real life situation. He would manage to disarm me here and there but would still take cuts every time. So that's the sad reality of knife defense, it doesn't really work in majority of cases but if there is no other way out it can save your life. Still you have to be ready that you will be seriously injured. Also I witnessed one knife attack and it was nothing like this 71%, it was actually wild unpredictable slashing with huge motions of arms. I’m sure this was just the first step to a much more in depth system. I learned knife fighting in south central LA from gang members. This defense would do nothing because they do not attack like this with a knife. They first body check and then grapple and clench you tight up against their body first, before they pull the knife out and start stabbing in the kidneys, not the stomach. You think you are wrestling the guy to the ground but really he is stabbing your vital organs. You’ll never see the knife come out and you’ll just start feeling severe pain and won’t understand why until it’s too late.
@ronmiller33192 жыл бұрын
Damn right. A real knife "fighter" is an assassin, not a grappler or striker. The blade is in you multiple times before you even know it's being used, and it feels like being punched so you don't know the severity of the wound until the pain and weakness kick in and you feel the wetness.
@ivayloi7362 жыл бұрын
This is why this sort of videos do more harm then good... If you see a knife, run... Even if you have a gun, you want to have distance. But even if the attacker uses the same technique, imagine if the blade was double sided... It will be easy to go up and cut you. Or even with the knife - go down and cut your leg. Then your guard is down and you are over. This is the thing about knife - it's always faster then you think, and it can cut as well as it can stab. Arguably, it's the best weapon one can have at arm distance. And even if the other is not a professional fighter, we all use knives every day, and have pretty good idea how they work on instinctive level.

What he said about the psychology of fighting is true; when you're in fight or flight mode you can't think about anything too technical, so any technique that requires multiple steps goes right out of your head, especially if you're in fear for your life and you're getting stabbed. Nonetheless, after 11 years of martial arts training, I know for fact that the guy is actually an expert by what he is saying, how he is teaching and the mindset around it: basic and no fancy moves. RL is no Jackie Chan movie. In the end, the best defense is always the same: run. The Nose, Eyes, the Throat and the Ears. Hard stiff strikes to them. The more intense the strike the better. You can end the fight in a blink with an intense enough strike of this kind. In a life and death fight it's the ability to develop the killer instinct that might determine if you get to see tomorrow.

From what I've seen on the streets growing up (grew up in a rough part of London) running is the best option. If its not an option your dead 90% of the time and the other 10% your in hospital in critical condition. You very rarely attacked by just one person, it's normally multiple people with knives stabbing you. No amount of training is helping you.
@mrx258616 күн бұрын
Actually studies have repeatedly shown that mortality rates for stabbings are in the low single digit figures, depending on the study it is often below 1% Studies have also shown that the vast majority of stabbing victims only have minor injuries. So no you don't have a 90% chance of death and by making such nonsense claims you have shown that you have no idea what your talking about

Let me save 7.5 minutes of your time. The video says 2 main things - 1. 71% of all knife attacks are upward repeated stabs to the stomach and 2. You should 'create a wall' against these stabs by blocking with your forearm. That is all. You're welcome.
@deafsmith10063 жыл бұрын
But blocking will no stop the attack. I mean STOP, as the attacker is on the floor and you are standing over him. Once you block.. NOW WHAT? Sooner or later he will switch to a neck attack. So once you block him... NOW WHAT? And show us that technique.

After having seen lots and lots of knife self defense videos, I come to the point where I realize the best defense is to have a gun. No need 25 years of experience and practice to defend using guns. Even with all training and practice there are still high probabilities that your armed attacker with knife will stabb you. The most realistic approach is to know how to use a fire weapon (and have it). Sorry for being so honest

wow, avoiding fights is safer than fighting, that's true for any fighting techniques anyone could ever show you, it's also painfully obvious. thing is, not every fight is avoidable, and if you get into a fight, especially with a knife, you had better know what you are doing. if you get into a knife fight and don't know anything, 90% chance you die, if you know what you are doing you at least take that to 50/50, which is a pretty big improvement.

@@tritacacademy interpol deals with international crime and criminals so I doubt they're compiling statistics on how many people were stabbed outside the nightclub and what knife grip was used. But if you're interested in the reality of knife attacks check out the Active Self Protection Channel on KZbin. It isn't pleasant viewing but I've watched some videos just to see the reality of knife attacks as caught on CCTV. Forget about my anecdotal evidence or his dodgy statistics check it out for yourself
@tritacacademy4 жыл бұрын
Cool. I didn't realize that international people are different than night club people. Do they use different knives too? Are night club people trained to use knives differently than intentional people? What happens if they are at an international night club? Do they dual wield knives to do in the international way and the night club way? The point I am hopefully getting across is that people are people. I am aware of his channel and others. But I do see that it's pointless in talking with you, because based upon your comments, you didn't even listen to the whole video. I even did the transcriptions myself for CC just in case people didn't want to listen. But it seems like you've got it all figured out. Good luck!
@s1r1554 жыл бұрын
The point I was making is that interpol isn't concerned with domestic crimes - regardless of where they take place. The statement below is taken from Interpol's website:- ......."Its primary role is to assist law enforcement agencies around the world in combating all forms of transnational crime and terrorism". You seem to be choosing to ignore the video examples I mentioned because they contradict your so called expert and don't fit the predetermined narrative, but that's a dangerous approach to take in self protection. The sewing machine style stabbing attack is very common but to state with such certainty that an attacker won't change hands (or attempt to) is dangerous and contradicts actual video evidence. I've added a couple of links to knife attacks below. In both clips the attacker changes his grip mid attack and in one the attacker also attempts to change hands. N.B. Viewer discretion is advised as in the first clip the victim is sadly killed kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJfag6uVms2pp9E kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3imZIFsa7iIa6c

I survived a knife afight. It went nothing like what was described here. About half the attacks came from overhead, but I will say the underhand attacks sized up my courage real quick because I couldn't see the blade. My friend, attacker, whatever you want to call him, switched hands infallibly. I know some basic melee defense. I'd say that knowledge was worthless save for the fact I'm still around. That fight was terrifying and lightning fast. The initial strike came out of nowhere and was totally unexpected. Dude had just snapped and was completely another person bent on something. If you wanna know what I remember of it, read on... A friend and I were horse playing a bit after our shifts aboard a US aircraft carrier. Deployment was long and had worn us down a bit. Some folks missed their families, some were homesick. Still others questioned our mission, why were we still cleaning up in Korea?? We were set to return a few days before Christmas of 1994. I looked forward to it but knew I would miss the Korean and Japanese people whom I'd met. It comes with the territory. As usual, I'd say down for a little Nintendo after my shift. That's when the horseplay began, though it quickly got a bit too rough for my taste, so I headed towards my rack. I felt a shove and turned around to see my friend holding something shiny. Next thing I knew that object was headed my way and it wasn't another ball of masking tape. The ship's store sold Buck 110 knives at the time and for all I knew that's what the object was. This was going to be a Bad Situation. I pushed back immediately and backed into the small space where my rack was. There was a flange on the floor I could stand on to gain height but it was right against the wall. That height advantage assisted with the defensive moves but cost me room to move and made lower sweeps a bit more risky. I opted instead for grabs but I never could get a fix on what the object was, so I reacted as if it were the dreaded Buck 110. We grappled for several minutes. Fearing for my life, I blocked every single one of the lower strikes. On the overhead strikes I would sweep outward and end with a grab, but he changed hands faster than I could determine what I was being attacked with, let alone figure out how to get hold of it. Then a right handed overhead strike connected. My left shoulder turned white hot. At that point I knew the only way out was to end the fight, more importantly I knew I could take a hit and still fight. I abandoned the block and grab strategy, opting only to block the lower strikes. On the next upper strike I placed a hand on each of his shoulders, shoved as hard as I could, and stepped off the flange. The push sent him eight feet backwards, he pinwheeld around in his left foot, and rushed me again as I exited the cramped area. With more room to move I dodged the next strike and repeated the shove without a height advantage. That forced him backwards against the guard chain around a large open hatch behind him. Shockingly, he prepared another lunge but I wasn't having it. While he was trying to get off the chain I pulled my right leg back and swung the steel toe hard towards his berries. My telegraphing the move gave him time to react. My intent was to stun him with a hard kick to the ground then shove him over the chain to fall right feet to the deck below. Instead, he took a step left and attempted to stab my leg with his right hand. That steel toed boot struck his funny bone with a loud crack and a drawing compass clattered to the floor, ending the fight. My opponent clutched the now injured elbow and came to his senses. Both of us went to medical where it was determined quickly what had happened. I had a single stab wound that, luckily, struck my collar bone and stopped 1/4 inch below my skin. It hurt when it connected but wasn't serious. The two of us answered to the ship's Captain for the incident. Two days later my friend bashed someone else in the head with a metal clipboard, that Sailor broke his nose. Skipper wasn't happy with me at all, and he put my friend in the brig for a week for both incidents. Cooler heads worked out the root cause, stress from war, and left it at that. Once we got back home the friendship continued. I don't believe holding a grudge does any good, in this case, forgiveness went a long way.
