So as I was putting my 650 unit back together with the help of your videos and I noticed my rotor was loose on the center steel hub. So I did just order a new rotor and stator from Low Brow. Thanks Todd. your videos are the best.

I just put a new stator and rotor on my 64 TR6. This video was very helpful, I've watched a few times now. I picked up a 15 dollar 2 arm puller from my local auto parts store. I don't think I could've gotten the rotor off with out it. It made the job very easy. Can't wait to fire her up tomorrow and see if the new parts are working. Since I was putting a new rotor on stator on the bike I decided to upgraded to 12 volts and put on an electronic ignition on. Finger crossed I did everything correctly. : )

Thanks Todd, another entertaining and informative video! I got my bearings in the crankcases tonight. My engineering mate Rae Amos of Uxbridge, UK has a hand press and made the job real easy. Tomorrow I pick up my crankshaft from Basset Down Balancing in Hungerford, UK and then I am good to start putting it all back together. Can't wait!

Just love it, always learn something new. Changing those clutch centers is super easy with a simple jig using an old steel clutch plate and clutch center.

great instruction, i refer to it OFTEN ! at 25:45, another way to instal clutch center without 'losing' the 3 screws, is to temporarily put on the springs & nuts just tight enough to hold em 'till its all tightened down..thanks todd

I truly appreciate your videos. Do you think installing the seal with "spring out" would allow crankcase pressure to enter the primary ? my son has a 67 650 and has a chronic primary leak at the clutch sprocket seal. we have tried everything, even replacing the transmission shaft. oddly, the previous owner had a hole drilled in his top primary filler plug (as a vent). that makes me think crankcase pressure was entering the primary through that crankshaft seal. thanks Kent from Indiana

A better way to open the bore of the rotor would be to use a flapper wheel small enough to fit in the hole but still hold the flaps in tension. You'll get a more even and rounder hole.

There should be a rubber grommet on the stator wires where they go into the sleeve nut. Otherwise oil will leak out in that area.

My uncle gifted me a 69 Scrambler and I am really interested in your build series. I can’t wait until you tune the bike mine runs but looses power at about 3000-3500 rpm’s I just want to get it running as good as possible. Plus I need to track down the original pipes I have A65 headers on it right now

Hi Todd. Thanks a bunch some great videos! Quick question about the clutch center nut that I hope will answer - after I torque the clutch basket down to 50 Ft-Lb the center og the clutch does not spin freely. The thrust washer is with specs so I can not figure out what is “holding” it and keeping it from spinning. Any advice?

I went to adjust my T120V clutch nut and the screw is seized into the nut, so as the clutch is working I just tightened it back up and adjusted it at the handlebars. What’s bothering me is that when tightening, it felt like the clutch centre nut was on the verge of stripping. I don’t know if that is replaceable or a new pressure plate? Or would a needle roller conversion be a better option? Thanks

Todd.... didn't you assemble the clutch plates wrong ? according to my manual on my 1977 Bonneville 750 it says steel plate goes in first then the friction plate then steel plate etc,etc. I say this because at the end of your stack of clutch plates you ended up with a steel plate facing the steel pressure plate, and it should be a friction plate there not steel ! please correct me if I am wrong ...as my triumph is assembled like I said steel plate, then friction plate etc and I wound up with a friction plate against the pressure plate.... .... thanks for your videos ! keep up the good work !

The rotor nut is torqued to 30 ft.lb. and not 50. I believe you mistakenly looked at the number for the clutch nut which is 50ft.lb.

I've been told to soak the friction plates in fresh oil prior to installing them. Anyone else?

Yes, that's the right procedure. I have a '69 Bonneville purchased new and I have used many different primary oils. Triumph recommended "20W" (no API or other description). This low viscosity oil spec allows the spinning chain and clutch sprocket to to pickup, then sling/splash off oil which is collected in the small oil reserve feature molded into the topmost part of the cast aluminum alloy primary case and cover. This small oil reservoir has a drain hole that gravity-feeds a short piece of oil tubing that should to be fitted so that oil drips onto the rearmost portion of the teeth of the duplex front sprocket just before they contact the chain. Primary Oil: I'm now (in 2021) using Amsoil 10W-30 Metric Motorcycle Oil which has no friction modifiers (like regular automotive oils) but it has been specially formulated for lubrication of wet clutches in motorcycles. Amsoil states that this special oil will provide ideal friction characteristics and promote long term durability of wet clutches. It will not harm rubber seals nor cause seals to leak.
