I had one in 1992 smooth engine the only issue was the body the wheel arches tend to rot nice car to own

I loved these Acclaim's back to my school day's again, My Welsh teacher had one in 1982 a new ( X-reg ) in metallic green, she was a nice teacher also one of neighbours had a red one 1982-83 ( Y-reg ) a 1.3 L it had a lot of features on this model that a lot of car's did not have at the time like 5 speed gear box a rev counter they were Austin's at the time that did not have these as standard and were from the same motoring group. When the Acclaim came out at the end of 1981 it replaced the Toledo and Dolomite , It was a Japanese car built in the UK ,a 3 year production until it was replaced by the Rover 213/216 in 1984 ( B-reg ) in fact there is one still going around Wrexham today I see it quite often still used as a regular driver in metallic green ( A- reg ) in mint condition, Thank's for this video on a great under rated but very reliable car, Take care🚗👍

Yes I remember a few people around my area were buying triumph acclaim's: in September 1982 one of my teachers bought a new Y reg ) and the school secretary also bought a dark blue acclaim brand New Y reg/ also a few years later my mum's doctor bought a new triumph acclaim 1984 August B reg) in light blue metallic.

@@Mtandy-vm2pt Aug 84 B-reg one of the last Acclaims and the end of Triumph cars as this was replaced by the new Rover 200 series 213/216 also this was the end of Morris cars when the Ital was stopped being made

My dad used to service cars on the drive for some extra cash ‘back in the day’ . That’s how i leaned to work on cars . I always remember a gold acclaim he used to service every year and it was in amazing condition . I would have only been about 10 years old at the time (88) but I remember the owner spoke very highly of the car !

Such an underrated car I think. An old chap in our street had Y reg in the obligatory blue and it seemed to serve him very well. It wasn't a highly spec model and he had for many years. I think it was replaced by a Maestro in a similar colour...

This Honda based Triumph replaced the Dolomite in 1981, generally favoured by pensioners. I know a 94 year old man who still owns and drives his Acclaim but locally and very rarely. In 1981 there was BL competition from the less reliable Morris Ital, Austin Allegro and Princess.

I might have mentioned this before but my sister looked at a 1981 Acclaim when looking to buy her first car (1989). She bought an early mark 3 Escort instead. I think that the Acclaim would have been better. Coincidentally her 3rd car was a Rover 200 series SD3, so the successor to the Acclaim. A 216 Vanden Plas no less!

Surprised it was the same engine throughout the range. Thought maybe they would have done a sportier 1.6 engine.

The Acclaim was reliable and reasonably well-equipped but I think it was let down by having just one engne option. The Rover 200 series put that right.

The Triumph Acclaim was a nice car, but although reliability and quality was good as you'd expect under the Honda influence (and it wasn't much more than a rebadged Honda Ballade tarted up for the British market and given a Triumph badge), in reality, and BL didn't have any input into the design, sadly the rustproofing wasn't it's strongpoint, and it was the rampant tinworm disease that consigned many Acclaims to an early grave in a scrapyard.
