I've had both these bikes - currently owning a 2017 T120. The engines are more or less identical as you say. The T120 simply having a larger bore. The T120 has twin throttle bodies vs the single throttle body on the T100. This benefits the smaller bike which has none of the snatchiness that the T120 has coming off a closed throttle. The T100 handles better too, certainly being easier to drop into corners. Probably due to the gyroscopic mass of the twin discs on the T120. The 6th gear and extra torque of the T120 makes up for this though especially if you ride on faster roads or with a pillion. Overtaking is easy and safe on the T120. With the T100, it needs a little more planning. I used to get around 80mpg (imperial) on my T100, with the T120 its around 65mpg so this translates well from the figures you quoted. My 1st gen T120 came with heated grips and centre stand as standard (cruise control being optional). Triumph switched this around at the update, making those two optional and providing CC as standard instead. In the UK at least, heated grips are more useful 😊 Great video - thanks 😊

Hi! I own a 2022 T100. 5000 km now. I love this bike but I must say im disappointed with the engine. Above 4k RPM, a lot of vibrations and it seems that you would have to struggle to reach red zone. This engine seems to opérate well only around 3k RPM. Is it specific to the T100 or do you think mine should go for service ? Thanks you and ride safe

I own both a T100 and a Scrambler 1200 XC, both drop dead gorgeous bikes! Which do I enjoy riding more? Honestly, the T100 which I find to be the most refined and well balanced motorcycle I have ever owned (and there have been plenty!). It T100 doesn’t have too much or too little of anything, everything is just right. It represents a true exercise of “less is more”. The 900 cc engine is much smoother than the 1200 cc because of the snatchy throttle on the larger displacement. On the 900 you flow, on the 1200 you run.

I've put 6000 miles on my 2020 T120 and am seeing 50mpg as indicated by the bike's computer. If I try, I can get as much as an indicated 55mpg, but I like to twist that throttle. The bike does have a cat delete, but other than that it's stock with the optional Vance & Hines exhaust. 80mph on the interstate gives me an instantaneous ~60mpg with the cruise control set. I'm seeing 180-200 miles per tank, though I fill up at about 150 miles.

Extra weight comes from the extra gear and front disc, the discs on the T120 are also solid rather than floating so each disc is heavier on the T120, plus the rear exhaust pipes are longer on the T120, these bikes don't feel heavy, T120 feels a fair bit stronger to me, but there's a big jump in price from the T100, I'd love a T100 in my garage to go along with my T120

I have a T100 gold line and love it great bike on A and B roads it averages around 76 mpg Howe bet on a longer trip I got 81 mpg I don’t drive it fast It’s a great bike for older riders and those comming down from heavier bikes to keep riding. As a new bike I added cruise and rack plus other minor extras my advice to any potential buyers is to take both out back to back on a test ride

@@alangoffin3599 Good advice and exactly what we did in 2021. We selected the T100 and really liked it. For financial reasons we had to let it go last year but regretted it. This year we looked to replace it but couldn't afford to buy new. Our current 2017 T120 came up at a T100 price though (and is in immaculate condition) so this time we chose that instead.

my T120 was a demo bike at the triumph dealer for 2 years with 10.000 km. i have it since 2 month and 4.000 km in the black forest and rhine plain in south germany. after a few days the average went down from 4,9 l/100 km to 4,7 l/100 km. my speed between the villages is 100/120/140 km/h were possible but not legal and sometimes i cruise slowly. i live in the rhine plain and work in the black forest, 25% uphill and 25% downhill and 50% plain. with countersteering and leaning the T120 goes around every corner easily.

had 3 harleys 1200 sportster, fatbob, heritage when i bought triumph america '17 model in NZ then moved to Australia bought a 2011 speedmaster both bikes are a perfect fit & quite torquey so I'm thinking of buying a brand new speedmaster or T120 so i can stick with it forever..about the harleys the sportster is the best & reliable excactly the same handling characterisic as the 2011speedmaster
@danield8312 ай бұрын
Greetings from the states! I've owned both a 1200 Sportster, and an a pre-2017 Speedmaster (865cc). I currently own a Triumph 2020 T120 which I've had for years now. It's no exaggeration to say that it's by far, the best bike I've ever owned. Plenty of power and torque, (more than the Sportster) super handling in the corners and in general and lighter weight than the Sporty. Comfortable for touring or an about town bike. It's just a superior bike on so many levels and a huge step up from the Speedmaster. I'm certain that you will not be disappointed. Consider some things that the Bonneville T120 has standard from the factory, that the Sporty does not have: heated grips/or in the new models Cruise control. ABS, traction control, Two ride modes: Road/Rain and dual disc brakes up front for excellent stopping power. In regards to which bike to choose between the new Speedmasters and the T120 I think a lot depends on your riding style and needs. If you want a laid back, Sunday cruiser then the Speedmaster is probably your best bet. Also you will want to consider what percentage is highway, city, or rural riding? But don't expect to push it too hard in the corners before it scrapes the pegs. It also has a lower seat height than the T120 so that is a consideration based upon your height. The T120 is very versatile bike in many regards. It does so many things well that it's hard to list them here. My suggestion is to watch some review videos on each bike and then go to the dealer and give them a test ride!! Hope that helps. Good luck and keep the rubber side down!

@@GaryShellberg oh trust me I’m not questioning anything haha I KNOW very well you can do long distance on anything. But take it from someone who’s in sales and talks to riders of all ages all day long….. especially nowadays, “long distance riding” on a 350cc motorcycle isn’t appealing to most buyers. I know folks that are taking their 150cc scooters on 2000+ miles trips and honestly to you and me, that sounds like fun…but the larger percentage of buyers nowadays want cruise control, 6 gears, comfy seating, etc. you get it.

Where I would like the t120 is for the 6th gear if I were to cruise at 80mph for sustained time else the t100 is just fine and mostly I stay of the interstates anyway where possible so I can enjoy the ride and scenery

Also the T120 has one piece shifter which is better than forward control shifter with linkage which wears out over time i had trouble trying to find new knuckles for the linkage for my 2011 speedmaster. Im a bit confused about the seat height. I bought a speed 400, 2 weeks ago and they say it has 790mm seat height. But in the Triumph store I mounted on the bikes. I am a bit tip toe on speed 400 we'll, almost flat footed but on Bonnie T120 which is also a 790mm seat height, I am flat footed and even with a bent knees. I know It has something to do with the width of the bike but T120 seems the wider one.

Maybe the T120 seat is more level to the ground than the 400? I imagine they take the seat height from the lowest point

The most overrated feature of a mid segment motorcycle is the power. No regular rider can use more than the 35 -40 hp of a mid segment bike. The higher power can only come at much higher revs which you can really not use on normal roads with speed limits. 1200 cc tourers, 900 cc adventure bikes are needlessly powerful, awfully expensive and a waste of money. Buy a reliable 400 - 650 at most with 40-60 hp and you will have 15 years of practical and tension free riding.

Best advice is removing the godawful catalytic converter and the factory exhaust pipes. Instead replace them with the Norman Hyde catalytic converter-delete pipes, and the rear silencers also from Norman Hyde. You'll get more power, better acceleration, and better sounding exhaust notes over the stock setup.

I'd say a lot of that would depend more on what style riding you might prefer. In my opinion, the Bonneville makes for a much more comfortable, more versatile option with the fact that you can add luggage to the bike, windshields, and in my opinion it has a more comfortable riding position. The MT is going to be a little sportier in riding position and although there are luggage options available for those bikes, the Bonneville is a little more spread out. Just depends on the style of riding you may prefer. Everyone's different.
