Wizards of a modern age cast spells of electric power But the corporate strings that make them dance Lead up to an ivory tower There sit the fates in solitude, far from the public eye No one ever sees them smile and nothing makes them cry Welcome to the kingdom, the land of bought and sold A world of real-life fantasy where truths are seldom told Try hard to remember all that glitters is not gold You can pay the piper, but you cannot buy his soul [Chorus] It's just a game, you're in it all the way It's just a game, don't let yourself slip away It's such a shame, I heard somebody say It's just a game, and all I can do is play What you do choose, now, what do you believe, now Who are you gonna trust? All you dreams and fancy schemes Just crumble into dust Calm and cool and computerized to calculate and collect We wait and watch and wonder Just which puppet they'll select Like the moth, too near the flame, Who learned his truth too late We're all too deep into the game That is the master of our fate The poets and the pipers have got their motives And you've got yours, no doubt And so the game continues That's what it's all about [Chorus]

This album was a very solid album if not great. From this album came, commercially successful "Hold on" along with "Fantasy Serenade" a short guitar instrumental showcasing Rik's guitar genius and versatility. but if you were really into this band, "American Girls" was one of those good songs on an album that didn't get airplay or commercial success however it was good enough that the listener would just go to the biggest hits on the album. The same can be said for "Suitcase Blues" and "Moving On". Personally, I think that "Lay it on the Line" is Triumph's signature tune, It got limited play on AM stations. As for this title track, I think that it is the most underrated Triumph song. When you listen to this album, you don't listen to "Just a Game" as filler on the album, this should have been a bigger hit. It wasn't one of those tune you would tolerate, it wasn't even just a song that only fans REALLY INTO Triumph would listen to, it was a great song in it's own right. I dare say that it's a classic Canadian album.

I just listened to this awesome song again and remembered when you listen to the actual recording the sounds are mixed to go through different speakers or headphone ears when played. This makes the song much more eerie and puts more emphasis on the different guitar sounds if you can imagine that. Not sure what the correct term for this type of mixing is called. Please let me know if anyone reading this knows what this is called. Difficult to explain but hopefully someone out in KZbin land understands what I am trying to describe. ;)
@The1WhoKnowsTheTruth5 жыл бұрын
Ldydi5954 nice to hear this. Yes it’s called panning. They would record certain parts full pan left or right and then get it all down during mastering. This is why I always suggest headphones when rocking the vinyl.
