Good timing, Joe! I discovered last week that my Olympia Splendid 66 does not advance or take up the ribbon. I think the mechanism may be similar to yours, so I think your video will be helpful. Thanks much!

The mechanism in the Splendid Series is very similar to other Olympias, like for instance the Traveller De Luxe. Referring to this particular example, you can find online a lot of websites where is minoutiosly described how to service your issue. Olympia typewriters have a system based ONLY on the tension of the ribbon itself, on the contrary that early 40's Triumph Norm have a system based on both tension and angle of the bracket.

Thanks for your great videos, Joe. A very stupid question: How to get that eyelet? Are there ribbons with them or do you have to add them? I have never seen a ribbon with such eyelets before. Do all the old typewriters have the same ídea for reverse that the ink ribbon must have the eyelets? Btw, i have a much worse issue with a Royal Model O. One broken little spring causes the ribbon movement not to work and unfortunately the spring is located in such a place that i would have to remove the shell of the machine and then i perhaps would be able to install a new spring. I say perhaps because i once tried to remove the shell, but didn't succeed to do it. For me the machine is now unrepairable and unsusable too.

I noticed the 5th typebar on the right is chipped at the base near the segment. How did that happen? Which key is that? Does is affect the performance? My Royal KHM snapped its original drawband today. So my first replacement of one of those. It is typing again, so I'm gonna call that a success.

That’s a machined cutout on the typebar that prevents that key from tripping the escapement, because it’s a dead-key accent mark.

@@Joe_VanCleave makes sense. I have some machines with dead keys, but I’m not aware of the having these cut outs. I’ll have a closer look at them!
