You had me tearing up at the beginning of this video Joe! Yes, you make an impact and bring joy into tbe lives of others! I'm not even actively using typewriters yet, but definitely fascinated by them! Your videos are informative, entertaining at times, but most importantly they are so calming to listen to (a much needed escape for any of us coping with stress during the changing seasons in our lives). Aside from that, absolutely BRILLIANT idea with the hair dye dispensing bottle with the slim nozzle from the beauty supply store... I had no idea HOW the lacquer thinner would be properly dispensed!

My carriage is loose, and I am not sure how to stop it from wiggling. Secondly, the margins are stopped in odd places, and I haven’t figured out how to set them. I thought your video was quite helpful. Thank you.

Hi! Im from Hungary, and my grandma has the exact same typewriter! In hungarian langauge we have ó, ö, ő á, é, wich can be found on your typewriter's keyboard. But we also have ű,ü,ú and í, wich cannot be fit on that keryboard. So some hungarian typewriters have no @ or ; symbols because they are replaced with special letters. Also on your machine you can see váltó, wich does not mean exactly shift, but more likely "changer". But on computer keyboards we have shift nowadays, not váltó. Did you know that?

I enjoy these in-depth tinkering videos very much, for reasons I can’t explain. Too bad you’re not in to vintage microscopes, I’ve got a couple that need some TLC.

Oh no, another hobby! If I had the time, I'd love to get into microscopes, used to have one as a kid.

Hi Joe I have a 50s norm 6 and it has a number on the left side of the carriage slide way. This number is 8 space 3680. Not on twdb? Is there another place I could look for the serial number? Thank you 🙏 Pete
@Joe_VanCleave2 жыл бұрын
The serial number on mine is located directly behind the ribbon bichrome color lever on the far left of the keyboard.

Joe~~~How do you go about finding these typewriters to work on? I am wanting to find a more productive hobby for myself. I want and need to keep my fingers more nimble now. Thanks in advance! Little Edie (nickname for Edith)

This one was a gift, but I usually find them in thrift or antique stores, sometimes on Craigslist. I am rather selective to make sure there are minimal issues with the machines mechanically, checking to ensure at least all the features work, but expecting to at the very least to have to clean, degrease and relubricate the mechanism.

I wonder if a typewriter repair kit, with appropriate tools, can even be had in this day and age? Your idea for using gunsmithing tools is brilliant, however.

Dr Joseph V Russo I agree - I have a small Pachmayer gunsmith's set, a screwdriver handle with interchangeable bits, it's magnetic, and was about $25 a few years ago. You can test for a good fit just using the bit, then fit it to the handle. Parallel pliers are handy too, and good quality small wrenches/spanners. Great video Joe!
