I have been considering the Harley Fat Boy. I test rode one about two months ago. Love the look of that bike but it does not do well on twisting roads in that it has to be coached into turns, takes effort does not do so without thinking (?) (I currently own a 2015 Harley Super Low 1200T & a 2016 Motto Guzzi V7 II Stone). I wanna test ride the Rocket but due to the Chinese Virus (I live in Washington D.C.) and right now the 2 Triumph Dealerships in my area are closed due to the Virus. The price of the HD Fat Boy and the Rocket III are about the same. If you have ever rode the HD Fat Boy ... Does the Rocket III handle better on twisty roads as well as all around handling then the Fat Boy ? The Rocket III seems to be more of a Bargain (?) than the Fat Boy in what it offers in electronics and such (the only "modern" option the Fat Boy offers is ABS, no traction control and such). But the luggage options are limited on the Rocket III compared to the Fat Boy. I myself do not like forward controls so my choice would be the R model of the Rocket III with mid controls. And the fuel range on the Rocket is discerning but not a deal breaker. Now do not get me wrong the Harley Fat Boy it would seem be a better cross country bike, but then again maybe not. As far as resale value ... Well, not sure about that though I would guess that a several year old Fat Boy would be worth more than the a several year old Rocket III (?), but again maybe not. Any way, the Rocket III has got me very interested to say the least. Hope you find the time to answer my questions. Love your Your You Tube Channel. later ...

Just my two cents, but I don't think you'd find a better time to buy a big displacement low-mileage Harley if that's what you love. The baby boomers are all 60 years old now, and there are deals to be had. Harley has brand new models coming out right NOW that are downsized and reshaped specifically for the younger millennials that just don't relate to the grungy gray-haired if-it-ain't-a-Harley-it-sucks attitude of the boomers. Street Glides were my favorite, and I could probably pick up a nice low-mileage one for 10 or 12K. And with that said- I've owned Harley (twin-cam), am an ex-HD-certified tech/service consultant/inspector, and have ridden every HD model (prior to Milwaukee 8 and electric..yuk). I'm waiting about a year, before I pick up a Rocket 3 GT. I'm over the HD marketing tactics, the 'potato-potato', the vibrations, the 'look-at-me!' crazy loud exhaust. I'm a baby boomer that started riding when I was 10. But now my skills aren't as sharp. So I want a bike with the handling, braking, performance, and traction controls, that makes up for some of that. Rocket 3 just seems to be the best semi-cruiser/muscle bike around at the moment. And if you need power delivery for either: 2-up, being loaded-up, or higher altitude mountain riding, you won't be spending another 6K-10K in upgrades to be near the R3's numbers. Rear wheel right around 150/150 ft-lbs/hp out of the box. Torque on demand. A bike that will never feel strained or under-powered. Now, Harley's are still kinda cool- I'll give you that. A FLAT-LANDER might not need more performance and might be perfectly happy puttin' around. But I think you and I like a beast that is more capable of this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXewi2uZpblokM0 (though I'm pretty sure I won't be draggin' knees ;-) HD=better variety & availability. Rocket 3=exclusive & elusive killer beast.
@visordown4 жыл бұрын
The Fat Boy Is good but the R3 is another level in terms of finish and details. The Rocket is a bike you can sit back and look at and always find something new to enjoy. And it genuinely handles and has such a lovely engine.

Are you in DC proper or MD or Va? Im originally from PG county. Had my 3GT up to my sisters in Mechanicsville, Md in late Feb or early March. I now live in NC. Was an easy ride up 95. All of my buddies ride HD's. Even with the new 131, it cant match the performance numbers.
@ragingninja42924 жыл бұрын
Fat boy handles fairly well for a cruiser. If you care about performance, yes the fat boy has less power however the new models have a ton of big bore kits from many different companies that bump the power up to around 150HP/TQ for around $3000.

Personally I prefer metal-shinny and chromed bike looks ranging from handle bar, wheels to drive shaft, etc. Today most bike manufacturers have adopted the black-out design theme for most bike models to please younger buyers. I wish they can go back to the old days with a lot of shinny chrome parts incorporated into their bike design.

You mentioned the kinda ugly exhaust tips. You must know that the TFC comes with the Arrow exhaust, right? I've also read that carbon fiber TFC parts will NOT be for sale, unless you happen to be a registered owner of the TFC version. (So you can't dress up stock versions with TFC carbon bits). Does this mean one won't be able to get the Arrow exhaust, either though Triumph or Arrow? And does the Arrow sound any better?
@visordown4 жыл бұрын
Blair Taylor yes the TFC gets an arrow one, they aren’t likely release it for everyone yet tho. Possibly a sign they still think the TFC has legs in sales terms.

Visordown Motorcycle Videos : I went to Triumph showroom here in India to have a look at Rocket 3.. The one in the Showroom was already sold to a customer and I couldn’t even touch it (let alone test ride it).. It looked like a monster compared to my Kawasaki Vulcan S (which itself looks like a monster compared to 95% of the bikes seen on Indian roads).. I was told that Rocket3 will never be available for test rides ( possibly because test riders may not be able to handle its insane power, torque, weight and may drop the bike or meet with accidents).. Its price in India is more than that of a luxury Toyota Minivan / a semi-Premium SUV... All in all, this Motorcycle is something which is impractical to purchase and ride (at least here in India), so my comment on the need for a ‘Baby Rocket’. Anyway, Triumph is partnering with Bajaj ( an Indian company which has a significant stake in KTM) to produce lower capacity motorcycles.. May be a ‘Baby Rocket’ or a ‘Tiger Cub’ is in the works !!
