This video is outstanding, thank you so much! Even though I had upper/lower bars installed before I took delivery, it's great to see how to do it correctly if I ever need to remove them for some reason, then re-install. So helpful!

Can totally be done without loosening the manifold bolts. I did both bars yesterday with the help of this video in about 30 minutes. The bracket for the skid plate has enough give to get the mounting tab with the spacer in position.

Went for the lower bars but not the upper ones. Just felt they were too intrusive. Also have the tank protector and metal skid plate. Nice video.

Thank you for posting this very detailed and informative video. The timing of it (1 hour ago) could not be better for me. I recently bought a Scrambler 400X and ordered the very accessories you detail in this video two weeks ago when I scheduled my initial service which is tomorrow morning. I had wondered if I should do it or have them install the crash bars and skid plate and after seeing the installation making a young man break a sweat, I'm glad I opted to have them do it. The Scramble 400 is a GREAT bike. My Bonnies are going to be sitting in the shed a lot this summer.

Really? I dream the Bonneville but I bought Scrambler 400x cause it's my first motorcycle... Why di you prefer Scrambler than Bonneville? Just for weight? However I did 750 km....its nice bike
@421Rider3 ай бұрын
@@malcolm426 Congratulations on your wise choice for a first bike. Frankly, you are better off with the Scrambler 400 than a Bonneville to develop your riding skills. The weight is indeed a big consideration. The reason my Bonnies will be chilling in the shed most of the summer is I live in a primitive road rich environment. My Bonnevilles will not be taken there and it has been a while since I could ride in the woods. Don't give up on your Bonneville dream, just be patient and keep your Scrambler when your dream comes about.

I must be hexed. After watching your video, I figured the install wouldn't be too bad. Well, as soon as I pulled the forward engine mounting bolt back a few inches, the engine sprang backwards (or the front frame sprang forwards about a 1/4". It took me a few hours to figure out how to align everything again. After loosening the rear engine mount, and loosening the rear wheel to get some slack in the chain, I ended up attaching a ratchet strap to the rear of the frame and the front of the frame, and pulled them together enough to align the holes. What a bitch!! Interestingly, another video shows a Triumph dealership installing these bars, and they don't support the engine or remove the exhaust (in all fairness, the directions to block the engine only seems to apply to the Speed for some reason in the instructions).

I like the old fashioned kind of crashbars. They protect more of the bike. I run crashbars on all of my street bikes. Much simpler to install as well. No center stand? All bikes with chain drive should have center stand stock.
@421Rider3 ай бұрын
Agreed. Sadly, the massive catalytic converter nullifies the possibility of a center stand. That is the only negative I can find with this bike.
@frankmarkovcijr54593 ай бұрын
@@421Rider my CX500 had a massive collector box on it where a catalytic converter would be now. It had a center stand. Many bikes have both converters and center stands so they could have one as well.
@421Rider3 ай бұрын
@@frankmarkovcijr5459 Location of the CC is the issue here. I installed center stands on both my Bonnevilles, but the CC on the Scrambler 400X is behind the engine rather than in the normal under the engine location. It sits right where the pivot shaft and center stand would go. If somebody figures out a way to install a center stand for this bike, I'll be the first one in line to get it.

Nice video. I put engine bars and skid plate in aluminium. I thought skid plate was an useful piece...[the mechanic told me that the ones fitted as standard were good]. However for you it's useful....I'm happy..but its normal sometimes I hear "noise" from it?

The noise may be road debris and rocks hitting it.

I have a question for you...bot specifically related to this video, but another when you used a pancake jack to lift the rear wheel. I bought a jack today, but after looking at the underside of the bike, im wondering where the best place is to postion the jack. Can that cat converter handle some pressure? Thx.
@RidgeRoamer2 ай бұрын
@davidholt4216 yes, you can lift under the cat, but it takes a little trial and error to find a nice level area under the bike towards the rear to lift it. My jack ended up angled just behind the kickstand, slanted towards the front under the other side.
