Having had the Sprint for 1 year and over 6k miles I thought it was about time to do a slightly more informed review.

Thanks for sharing. I want to change from my Triumph America LT to a more all round bike next year and this is one of the leading contenders. This is the kind of video that helps me choose since it is more realistic than an expert's view.

Thanks mate- loved watching the footage of Pompey from a Sprint. Mine (an '08 ST) was my sole transport when I lived down there. Takes me back... :-)

It's one thing I noticed when I got my Sprint ST 1050 was that it is heavy, but once you're on the open road it does shift really well. An excellent review. :)

Nice review. Same with me about riding position - sitting too upright just doesn't feel right for me; I like being a little bit hunched over. Jumped on a GT last year and it was the best riding position I've ever had. Picking up a 2008 ST on Saturday. :)

On the Triumph rat forum a fellow made an adapter plate so you can put higher bars on. They come up and back making it a lot more comfortable for short riders but also provides more leverage so it feels lighter. It's made for people about 6' I think.

Good review, I have a GT 2010 and have done over 35.000 miles across Europe. It's a great bike and wouldn't sell it for any price. Install Brembo brakes for that little extra ;-). For a great sound I fitted a Remus Hexacone exhaust.

That is some miles, great bike to do it on! I like the sound of the Remus, unleash the sound of that 1050 some more...

Good round up. I just bought a late ST (one with the GT nose) as I didn't like the riding position on the GT, nor did I like the seat - plus I love the trident exhaust. I've got 3 years NCD and pay half your insurance but I've got nearly 10 years on your age. I've come from a Deauville, so I'm used to riding upright although I found over the 3 years I've had it, I lean forwards more and tuck my feet back more, and the ST reflects that position. As for the weight, the Deau is a heavy bike, similar to the GT, but feels more as it's wider than the ST and GT without their panniers. Maybe in a few years I'll move to a GT as the ST is a halfway house in terms or ergonomics. Just a shame they don't do your blue any more.

Thanks Lurch. I like the look of the trident exhaust compared to the great big one on the GT. Haven't ridden an ST, didn't even think the riding position would be a little different. The motor really makes it which ever model! enjoy!

Cheers! Someone was saying that the new regs meant exhausts were getting heavier, so they couldn't put the weight so high up any more.

Agree with most of what you say. I had one. Impressive? Certainly. Could I suggest improvements? Not really. But I didn't fall in love with it in the way I usually do with my bikes. I usually keep them 6 years or so (the dealer had to crowbar me off my '01 Sprint ST 955i) but the GT was gone in 18 months. It never failed me but it just lacked intangibles. I doubt many bought a second one. There was no successor which tells a tale.

Top review .. I can't get over your insurance cost at 155 to 115 quid a month ... I have a 2016 Triumph Rocket 3 Roadster here in OZ and my fully comprehensive insurance is $1 AUD a day , so well under $400 AUD a year.. I'm looking at a 2011 model same colour as yours in great condition with 80 thou in K's on her for $4,900 AUD , thinking I might grab it at that price, seems a great bike for the buck!

Cheers Peter Its been a few years since I give up my Sprint for other bikes, I miss it so much (the versatility and quality of the luggage) that its likely I'll be getting another one at some point this year and getting rid of my Fireblade. They are great value and that 1050 engine is a pleasure

I've loved the Sprint GT since it came to the US in 2011 (the only year for it over here). Now I'm finally getting one. Thanks for this video. Question for you: How do you record your audio for the GoPro? The clarity is excellent and I want to start vlogging from the saddle of my bike.

Hey Chris, thanks for the comment - I hope you enjoy your Sprint - I miss the long distance ability and luggage for the bike, my little Street Triple is lacking. As for the audio I am using a Drift camera with the purpose built plug in mic, which I tucked into my helmet and as you say, it works well. Best of luck!

Ouch! Your insurance is well expensive. I passed my test in 2014 and it cost me £300 for the year fully comp and that include RAC cover. I am 40 and with a clean licence, but over £100 per month?! wow... I'd shop around as much as you can.

***** I reckon they just pluck figures out of the air. Do you live in a high risk area? I can't understand why someone would be charged so much. I've heard even worse prices for insurance. Baron Von Grumble has been paying over £1,200 for his gixxer.

It's a rediculous amount, especially given I was paying 60 a month on a cbr600 (almost triple!). Had car insurance when I was 20 for £2500 a year on a Honda prelude

+totallybizarre23 Give Hastings Direct a ring. They were cheaper than everyone else with almost every bike I asked about. I'm paying less than £200 per year for a 2014 Triumph America LT and it includes commuting and riding other people's bikes.

+Ziggy Sheppard thanks - I'll give them a go! Found out my track day cover is only valid for 50% of the value of the bike anyway. Small print...

Iv got a GT. On the whole its a great bike. two things i don't like. the Exhaust is very ugly and heavy so I replaced it with a Carbon Fuel. The Top Box is very large but lacks internal space and is like a bag of cement heavy. So I replaced it with a much better Givi box.
@totallybizarre23

The luggage weighs a ton, but very weatherproof. I can definitely see why people change the exhaust

I also had the lock fail on the top box as I could open it without a key.

What you missed here brother is the design. Look at your steering head bolt and two front "triple tree" shock tops. Look at the 3 idiot lights and then the 3 gauges. Three head light configuration. Your GT has 3 bags in stock configuration. Three exhaust pipes! They could have made it 3 into 1 like the Japanese do on 4 into 1 styling, but they kept it a triple exhaust. They are ALL matching the motor which is a "Triple".... Groups of 3 design as in a "Triple" design. Find that on other bikes.... Nope, you just don't find that kind of mental approach to making a motorcycle be distinct from other bikes. I am on the west coast of America and partly because of your review, I am going to get a used Sprint ST 1050 this week.... Thanks brother and good, safe riding.... Are the brakes "three pot" piston brakes? I would think so since the designer had a triple in mind...

Just found one here in the states for sale. Asking $5000 for it with almost 13,000 miles. Silver in color. Loved the review. Now all I have to do is keep my fingers crossed someone else doesn't snatch it up before I can get to it!
