So things this review overlooked: 1. Want to check your rear break fluid levels? You have to remove the exhaust. Seriously. 2. Want to access your tool kit (an allen key)? You'll need a screw driver. 3. It gets HOT. Really hot in stop start traffic and because of the vertically mounted radiator it'll vent that right on to your leg. This is the worst thing about the bike and it will annoy the hell out of you if you live somewhere that gets hotter than 28c. 4. Pillions give up after about 60-70km, the exhaust puts them in a very uncomfortable riding position. 5. This bike actually makes a very decent long haul platform - I've done multiple 800km+ days in a row and arrived fit and relaxed 6. It has more than enough power for cruising on the Autobhan - You wont be doing aggressive overtaking but it'll happily cruise along at 140-150kph and gets decent range at that. 7. It handles surprisingly well, much better than it has any right to. I'm more confident on this than I am on many purely street focused bikes 8. With a bench seat and bar end mirrors the bike becomes a real looker, I've never had a bike turn heads as often as this does. Bonus observation - Do a thorough pre-ride check of everything before riding it out of the dealership. Mine came with a missing bolt leaving the headlamp swinging loose on one side and clutch leaver play so loose the bike stalled.

I have 13K miles of back roads and dirt and gravel farm roads on a 2017 left over bought in 2018 ..Great price .Lots to love about this bike for the roads I am riding\ ..50 years riding and a few 100ks under my belt and this is one of my favorites ...(R69s is still at the top or my list ) I would love a larger tank on this Bonny ..165 or 170 miles to the tank with the lower 55hp 900. ( Regular gas ) .I like the lesser nisson brakes in the dirt too .I do wish it had better forks and rear suspension as you said ...I got the bigger Tiger pegs so I have more foot peg to stand up on when its really bumpy ..Like posting on a horse ...I had to get a dirt tracker's chain at 6 K miles .Fist time I did a chain in from the dirt..Center stand and heated grips and a home made wooden pannier for rain and winter gear and I am having a blast .. Like the V7iii owners , this is one of those bikes a rider keep forever after living with it ...I do wish I had kept my 78 R80 ..Yet another perfect bike .....

Brought 1 home last Thursday, clock in ~270km & I m enjoying it. On 1 hand I must say it's a tag boring compared to my TDM 900 & Shiver 900 which r much faster & aggressive on road. What I like about it is that it is so easy to ride onto wet & sendy road & backyard granite pebbles filled road without all the power of the other bikes!! - It low seat height allows me 5'4 short to ride it without worrying about balancing the ~220kg on my left toe! - 900HT engine means I can leave it @top gear from 60kmh 😱 - when I fuel it when reserve lights up, I only manage to squeeze in 8.2L of petrol when the metre reads 226km! Super surprising >300km range from its 12L fuel tank in city traffic!!!

I feel like the main difference is how much concerned you have to be about scraping or ruining something when hitting a light offroad track. The Triumph features a 19" front wheel, which helps a lot on uneven terrains, and some "offroad-friendly" solutions like the bash plate (mandatory upgrade to the metal one rather than the stock plastic one IMHO) and the high pipes. Street bikes can easily face same terrains, but will sure fit smaller front tires, low exhaust systems and no protection whatsoever. Every rock or bump you hit could sound very expensive!

I agree but some bikes enjoy it more than others ..Before owing my Street Scrambler I had bought a midnight STar 1700 Yamaha for a great price and was riding it around on the dirt roads I live on .. New Tires at 3000 miles and I felt like I was doing that poor 750 lbs girl damage just asking her to do all the crazy stuff she did for me ..I really felt "Set Free" with the lighter 900 with the right tires for the job at hand ..

I had CB300R, after a light off road session, forks just started to leak. My good old Super Cub’s forks wouldn’t leak going off road. Some modern bikes are just built to a price and it shows when you put it in a tough situation.

I bought one in June and 4k miles later still loving it. Road use only as a general runaround in town and in the sticks on local back roads. Will probably change the Metzelers when due but nothing too aggressive. I'm quite heavy so the suspension could do with upgrading TBH. Not found the exhaust a problem, position is OK and while some heat can be felt it won't ruin your nylons. Build quality seems pretty good but time will answer that one. Taking any vehicle offroad is punishing and there's a few parts on the SS that will suffer quickly IMO.

When my Metzelers ran down I switched over to Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR and what a game changer!! Both for street and dirt, a significantly better ride - even in the twisties the Pirelli's were a huge upgrade but not nearly as aggressive as the TKCs.

Great review! I think the Ducati Scrambler is the nearest competitor - at least that was what my decision came down to Triumph vs. Ducati - but being a long time Triumph loyalist, I opted for the Street Scrambler and dig it 100%...did a bunch of mods to get to the 'rallye pro' model but it puts a smile on my mug every time I ride and still forces a double take every time I walk away.

Loved his comment about the hipster going to pick up his vegan goodies and having a hipster bag LOL. I have a Street Scrambler 900 and it is the sweetest handling bike I have ridden in maybe 45 years of riding bikes. Personally I have a TEC touring rack fitted on mine with a simple Givi ''buttie box'' and I can pick up my Aldi shopping en route to doing some fun urban/rural riding. I also commute on mine and it is sweet great at filtering in heavy traffic a stonking bike......even for Tarquin and his hipster friends LOL

Good review, i rode a 2021 SS today for 250km. Great bike , great handling. Only 2 gripes, the front brake was very divey....surprising with a Brembo caliper, maybe a steel line will help. A fair few vibes thru handlebars,

haha, you got some grass hanging off the brake pedal. I got the '19 version here in India. It's a pretty cool bike. I haven't taken it off-road, but got green-laning and our battered roads, it does very well. It's definitely not a bike for a complete beginner (maybe) because there's a butt-load of torque and the weight is a bit much. My only gripe with it is the stock passenger seat. It's a joke, but then again, it's supposed to be a solo-rider's bike. I love the bike and I can't seem to keep myself off of it for long.

You keep saying this is an A2 compliant motorcycle, but it's not. It can be restricted at the dealer to comply, but the standard bike is over 47 bhp (as you mentioned), therefore not compliant from stock.

I think he just means that any bike under 94hp can be restricted to 47hp for A2 licence holders so this is compliant. Bikes like the Street Triple R are not compliant but the street triple S is because it is 94hp.

My Ducati was pretty twitchy and the power is definitely there. I'm thinking of jumping to Triumph for a smoother more mellow experience.

Piston rods are at 270º instead of standard 180º so it has massive torque (near single cylinder) but it can not rev high..also sound awesome papàm-papàm-papàm-papàm instead of regular boaring pam-pam-pam-pam

Yep noob, the hipster sideswipes are a bit old, but he's normally better than that. The 2019 SS is just a brilliant all round machine for the road with just enough off road ability for undemanding trails etc. I bought the first gen watercooled SS in 2017, and loved it. The issues it had (weak front brake & top end performance) were addressed by Triumph with the 2019 model so successfully, that I took the loss & traded in my 2017 for a 2019. The new Brembo front brake has great feel & bite, & the improved engine breathing (mainly the cam I think) is how the bike should have been launched. Fit a de-cat, a hi-flow air filter & a fuel buster & it feels much happier still. I've ridden the T120, the Bobber & the Speedmaster & I remain convinced the 900 engine just gives you the joy at all the right times on 21st century traffic filled roads. The 1200 is great in it's stride, but that requires an extra bit of throttle which a lot of the time isn't always wise or possible in today's traffic conditions. With the 900, I think the smiles are just much more accessible.

The seat is very low and narrow enough, you'll have no problems with this bike. I'm a bit taller than you and can easily put both feet on the ground

I am really getting upset with triumph… I’ve had issues with Abs, TC, check engine light and service light whilst riding.. After paying £90 for someone to tell me it’s a water ingress issue, they failed to notice the pinching of cables… near the ignition barrel. Attached are photos and videos of the issues occurred with this lazy routing of cables by triumph The brake cable has also started to degrade even after a service not so long ago, a service which includes the inspection of the brake cable…. I’m sadly not the only one affected by this.. Please check yours!
