A review that shows everything that is really important to know. I was looking for something that had a classic look and at the same time everything that the latest technology has to offer, too bad that the headlight is not LED. You really made me decide to buy this bike. Triumph should pay you for your good work. Best wishes from Portugal

After almost 40 years on state of the art sports bikes I bought one of these in June last year and love it to bits. It was the looks that first attracted me, something way different to what I've been used to, and a test ride meant I just have to have one. 65bhp, down from 200+ is quite a jump but it's such a sweet engine and a nice bike to ride! I already own a dirt bike so the Triumph will be street use and maybe a very mild green lane or two. I'm also 6'3" and don't find the bike cramped at all. Other things I like are the sound, the minimal instrumentation, the brakes are excellent and to cap it all I got a cracking deal on the price just after the first lockdown! Nice one Triumph!

A really good review, thank you for going into details of how rake and trail affect the 'quickness' of the steering. This Triumph is what I call a motorcycle, the classic look really does it for me, I bloody hate the 'alien insect' look that so many modern bikes have..

Thanks for the review as usual informative and thorough if a little late for me as I bought my Cranberry Red Scrambler on 1st September. It is expensive for a ‘small’ bike but mine was pre-registered by the dealer so discounted, hence the colour choice but I like it. I traded in a Buell Firebolt, amongst other issues at 72 and 6ft tall my hips couldn’t take high pegs any more. Applying man maths the Scrambler cost just £5k for effectively a brand new bike. Running costs have been minimal I got a refund on insurance it’s now £114 fully comp; fuel consumption over 700 miles is 68.6.mpg. I really like the Scrambler styling but this is a road bike and permanently in ‘Road’ mode. It’s my first bike with a chain for over twenty years which I don’t like. I asked my dealer to fit an OEM centre stand (£200) and although it makes maintenance easier, it looks a bit clunky and too heavy for the bike but does the job. The Scrambler is niche, but perfect for riding the lanes around Sussex and Kent. Gearbox is positive, can’t speak for longevity but I’ve never owned a bike with such a light clutch. Obviously no wind protection I rode it up the motorway recently. We kept up with the traffic but not that comfortable. I wouldn’t like to do it every day. The riding position also acts as a speed limiter, at 70 + mph you’re just hanging on. As for the pipes I ride in Hood jeans or leathers and the rear cylinder of the Buell ran hotter. (Only an idiot would touch the shields with bare fingers - no blisters, but it stings a bit lol). I like the quick steering, but would prefer tubeless tyres, no bike is perfect, but the Street Scrambler comes close for what I want. It’s light, easy to ride and push around the garage. I have limited core strength after cancer surgery so that was a big consideration for me. I’ve taken the pillion pad and pegs off. Triumph provide an alloy rack but I’m looking at a Hepco and Becker steel rack, or should I get a scrambler seat as in the video? The Old Man sliding up and down got me thinking. That’s another thing I like about the Triumph ‘classic’ range, thinking about all the accessories I’ll probably never buy. It’s fine as it is, the other bits are just added weight.

I have the 54 bhp 2018 model - torque is still the same as newer 2019 on model. I have Nissin brakes your tested model has Brembo's plus the front suspension has been modified slightly 2019 on models. Metzeler tyres are good and quite adequate for most tarmac and 10% light off roading; but it is a STREET Scrambler, the clue is in the name. It is, correct as you say, just ideal for farm trails and lighter off roading - its a slick handling bike for sure. There are plenty of used examples. My one I've had for 10 months and it is a delightfully handling bike. It is very manouverable and not too fast so great for busy UK roads. It'll do 70 mph cruising but back roads are it's strong point. I commute on it in nicer weather and use it for social and leisure purposes too. Everyone seems to like the new world/old world looks and being water cooled is fine - older ex riders see the Triumph badge on the tank and think back to their original bike in the 1960s etc. ABS and Traction Control can be turned off if required. It copes quite well with our pot holed , rutted, inadequate third world UK roads and this attracts me, the ruffty toughty look is nice without being too extreme. I get 70 to 73 mpg and I ride the bike with some elan so it is a genuinely good economical machine. The standard mirrors for me at 5' 8'' tall is spot on and the height of saddle means I can flat foot it. Reliability so far is good and no issues. Insurance cost for me as an older rider is amazing just over £100 per year fully comprehensive. Most of all it is a fun yet practical machine and I have put a TEC rack on it and then mounted a Givi top box. I have a centre stand and a fender extender both useful accesories. It is a good looker and I would say it's super for both novices and also the more experienced rider. Thanks for the review guys. SS 900 riders do love their SS900s !

If you’re a fan of the Triumph Scrambler, read Forgotten Road by Randall Arthur. The whole last half of the book highlights the Scrambler with numerous on-road adventures. The book is a work of fiction, but supposedly the adventures in the book are all based on Arthur’s real-life experiences.

I've wanted this bike ever since it was released but the Scrambler 1200s and especially the XC has killed my over all enthusiasm for the 900. If they were to beef up the suspension just a little for more 'if you must off roading' then I think it would be more capable than just a good looking retro machine with a lifted exhaust. Needs to be less of a poser and more doer if you will. Regardless, I'd still be happy to have one haha! Lovely review! Cheers!

A slight wiggle of the Harley's bars would create a smooth, easy swerve, but the same movement on the Himalayan almost threw me off the bike. Yikes!!! We haven’t ridden the XC but have ridden the XE. The Street Scrambler is nicer to ride than the XE because it’s much much less twitchy. As the XC is similar to the XE, I’d say the Street Scrambler is the better option. Of course, if your planning on off roading, there may be better options

No one would seriously consider this bike for anything but road and VERY mild green lane use and criticising it's offroad ability is unfair IMO. At best I'd rate it 80/20, road-off road use and that's being generous. I love mine to bits and have done a couple of dry green lanes on it but I also have a dirt bike for serious mud plugging. The "Scrambler" badge is more of a marketing ploy on this bike but the higher bars, riding position and engine characteristics do make it a really relaxed and easy bike to ride on the road.

I was really interested in this bike but my local dealer won't allow test rides, it doesn't have tubeless tires, and it's really expensive for what you get. A 650XT Adventure V-strom has spoked tubeless tires, hard luggage, a fairing/windshield, six speed transmission and cost $500 less. I agree this bike is much better looking but the value just isn't there.
@MrDarcy-OlMan
@MrDarcy-OlMan 3 жыл бұрын
The V Strom is ugly though imo. Tubeless tyre rims are very hard to clean, and do you really need them (I wouldn’t want them). The Bonneville engine is lovely. Shame you can’t get a testride. What we said in the review about how it handles is accurate if it helps.

I have had one of these for 4 months. I really like it a lot, but there are a couple small things that leave me non-plussed. The engine is very low end torquey, which is great but you notice a significant torque drop of early compared to other 900cc bikes. I know it supposed to be off-roadable, but the pretense that this is any sort of dirt bike is absurd. And the missing top 1000+rpm of torque is missing and really SHOULD be there. All the snappy throttle and torque seem to near disappear at early at freeway speed. I'm older rider and seldom exceed 70 mph but taking out that power was NOT needed. It already has too much power at low end to go on anything but a "good" dirt road and only if you want to torture it. It pulls very well to 65mph and then torque curve plateaus. They shouldn't have done that IMO. Not big on the stock tires either. Still, very fun to ride over all and 5spd is smooth. But gimme back my top end 15-20%. Not cause I need it, because it should just be there.
