I love the try amp RS brand thinking about iThe duke 790 I really love the sound of the triple but everything I read has me leaning towards the KTM help me up if you can with your insight
@HippoDrones5 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith, All I have heard of the 790 is a little bit of a let down. It's styling was so far from what the prototype suggested it would be. Now the 890 Duke, that looks to be a contender, very similar specs to the Triumph Street Triple RS... I'd personally go Triumph over KTM with road bikes as I didn't have a great experience withthem with my KTM 390 Duke, it had a lot of QC gremlins. I had heard, but not had it confirmed, that the 790 was going to be built in India, which is where the 390 Duke is built. There is not necessarily anything wrong with the Indian built bikes, but it is done to reduce costs. Triumph build the Street Triple in Thailand I believe, again to cut costs... but my 765R feels a very high quality bit of kit, my KTM felt very cheap. I was very taken with the 890 Duke up at the MotorcycleLive bike show though.

What’s your inside leg - I’m 29.5 in. Thinking about getting this bike in standard with low seat or this LRH version . Btw why did you end up selling it ?
@HippoDrones11 ай бұрын
I have a 29" inside leg. I loved the confidence this bike gave me, and was great to be able to safely paddle it backwards when parking etc. I sadly found that the lowered suspension was quite restrictive of the bikes handling, especially on trackdays, but also (to a lesser extent) on the road too.
@user-fv157611 ай бұрын
Can you explain or do you have a video on it ? Did it ground out when cornering ?
@HippoDrones11 ай бұрын
@@user-fv1576 it would ground out on long fast corners. I fitted racing rear set footpegs which helped, as did stiffening up the suspension, but it always felt slow to turn, it was incredibly stable in a corner, but felt long... does that make sense? My current GSX-8S feels more nimble, although is not a better bike, but for where I mostly ride, it is a better bike for me if that also makes sense. If I was going to get another 765, I'd get the current RS version and just cope with the taller seat.

I used to think I'd found perfection when I eventually settled on the GSX-R750, after finding the R6 and CBR600RR just too much hard work and the Blade and R1 where you're never gonna use all that power, so I thought the street Triple R was gonna be a compromise of sacrificing power for comfort, boy was I naive the R is the most fun I've EVER had on a bike ,(and I've owned RD250 and RD400s, L/C 350, RD500 and Aprilia RS250) but the R blows them away, brilliant power yet so refined and that banshees wail of an exhaust note. the only extras I went for was the quickshifter and tail tidy both which added to near perfection.

Awesome! I'm trying to source a softer spring for the rear suspension. I'm short and I only weigh 52kg so the rear suspension doesn't even seem to move when I sit on it. A softer spring should help me keep my feet more planted on the ground. I contacted Showa directly so hopefully they can give me some info.

They are all too tall for me unfortunately. I know when riding it makes no difference, but I hate not being able to get my feet down with confidence at junctions or when paddling in carparks. The ST 765 R low has a seat height of 780mm and is skinny enough for me to happily flat foot. I can't touch the ground at all on the regular ride height variant and that is roughly the same ride height as all the main competitors.

I'm also worried bout the suspension travel because you do give that up with LRH version. I'm just trying to get good idea cuz the the nearest Triumph dealer from me is 79 miles.. I didn't ride the full height bike but I did sit on one in the showroom. I was only able to get one foot down. I could have coped with it but didn't see the point when the LRH fitted me so well. Was looking at the street 765 RS and i'm 5'6 as well. Should I be able to flat foot that? I was confused about the "low ride height version"
@HippoDrones6 жыл бұрын
I found the full height "R" to be a little tall for what I was looking for. I've ridden bikes in the past with similar ride heights and I can do them, I just prefer the added confidence of being able to flat foot the bike. My inside leg is roughly 31" if that helps. It is awesome that Triumph are offering a properly lowered version with completely different suspension rather than dropping the bike down the forks and changing rear linkages. If you have the same inside leg as me you'll not be able to flatfoot the standard height "R" or "RS" with both feet.
@simonb46665 жыл бұрын
I *knew* there was something wrong with me! I'm 5'7", but my inside leg is only 30" on a good day. It's been a nightmare finding kit to fit, let alone a bike to ride. But ... Thanks for the video, sir. Anybody know the official seat height of the Low model? Triumph website still says "Coming soon." Some older unofficial sources have said 30.7 in (780 mm), which doesn't seem that much of a difference between the standard model's 32 inch. I've been thinking about buying the standard model and installing the low model's seat as a middle ground, since the low version's Showa RSU isn't fully adjustable compared to the standard.
@HippoDrones6 жыл бұрын
According to the UK Triumph website the low is 780mm, for myself it is a huge difference, I have a 30"-31" inseam and I can barely get one foot down on the full height version, but with the low, I can flat foot both feet comfortably! :-) The low front forks have adjustable compression damping, rebound damping and preload, so are fully adjustable!
@wl56606 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response. I was talking about the rear shock not being fully adjustable (no rebound adjustment available) on the low model. I found an article saying "the rear shock is similar to the R’s Showa unit, but is shorter, thus removing the option of rebound adjustment, while it's still compression and preload adjustment remain." I've read comments from an owner of the low model on a discussion forum complain about this as well. I think the TheMissendenFlyer has a similar inseam length to you and reviewed the standard model and said he could flat foot it without any issue so this is a bit confusing for me. I guess I'll ultimately have to sit on both versions to really compare.
@HippoDrones6 жыл бұрын
B Jr looks to have preload adjuster and adjustable compression damping but like you say, no rebound damping. I'm not a fast enough rider to really make the most of fully adjustable suspension although it can transform a bike to be able to set it for the rider weight. My Moto Guzzi has fully adjusted suspension and is a world of fun! :-)
@HippoDrones6 жыл бұрын
B Jr I sat on both in the showroom and the full height bike was too tall for me. It would not be an issue when riding but I like to have that extra confidence when manoeuvring when parking

(soz for multi replies, was on my mobile) TheMissendenFlyer is possibly far better clued up on these bikes than I am as he has a previous version S3 R too (and is a far better reviewer of bikes than myself too), best advice I would offer is to do like you say, pop in to a dealership and try them for size! :-)
