I saw Triumph play at my high school when they did a tour promoting the release of the album Rock And Roll Machine- they are one of my favorite local bands. Due to the instruments involved during the opening sequence (drums, multiple guitars, bass guitar, keyboards) they played the first 4 minutes of the song taped through the PA. The band started playing live after El Duende Agonizante, one of my favorite accoustic guitar pieces of all time. I used to be able to play it myself (not with Rik's level of excellence of course) but after over 40 years of hard labour I can only fake it now. Thank you for posting this.

I have the whole of Triumphs cd catalog...this has to be my fav of all their songs. The intro instrumental is absolutely stellar. Great musicianship and great vocals.

Para mí es una de las mejores canciones del rock de todos los tiempos. Particularmente, uno de los temas emblemáticos del rock progresivo. Una verdadera joya musical.

I'll toss in Never Surrender and Time Goes By as well. A number of more proggy, longer songs the band did, that are kind of in a group, to me. Because it wasn't on the American compilation, I'd never even heard 'the City' till like 15 years ago. It was like getting a brand new, awesome Triumph tune.

Thank you for posting this! Old school Triumph. I used to fight with my friends who had no clue how great Rik Emmett was. They never play this anymore live but Their US Festival 83' set was unreal good. It's on here if u look. Rik on Rock n roll machine is orgasmic guitar.

Yup this song was only on the 1st pressings of the album. It's an awesome guitar piece the whole band kicked it bigtime, always missed them. It was a huge mistake they broke up. From a mississauga resident to Triumph reform the band.

Here they, for once, truly walk in the footprints of countrymen Rush, when it comes to epic songs. The unique Triumph sound is very present though. . Triumph, of cource, made alot of epic songs after this, but none like this one again. A masterpiece indeed.

squizofreniko Is that the aluminum one? There was a version that was actually pressed on aluminum. I remember seeing it in a store in the 70’s with a sticker saying that. Of course I didn’t think to buy it because I already had it on vinyl... probably worth a fortune now.

@Roy Batty Well said ! Even Ingwie Malmsteem, back when he was the new gutar god, used to say : "Music is not a competitive sport" and (french composer) Debussy once said about music contests : "we are not horses"... I saw Triumph live in Québec one month or so after i saw Elton John, and a couple of months before i saw Yes for the fourth time if i remember well and all of these shows were juste amazing ! Never got to see Rush live, thought..
