I am not a biker but I like the aesthetics of (some!) motor bikes. I am in the USA and today I saw this same model, an English icon, in my local town. It was of an awesome size but brutally handsome in a grey colour. The large digital display was striking and my eyes just wandered over the bike: it's complex, is it not? The owner was a friendly chap and did not mind me asking him naive questions about the bike. I guess he liked my admiration for the Tiger.

👌 It is a great sounding bike! That T-Plane crank just gives it an extra "rasp" to the exhaust note. I have never ridden the older version but can imagine the engine was lovely. This Explorer model was a bit tall and top heavy for me personally (5'9"), I would go for the Rally Pro.

Hey Angus. I just rode both the 900 and 1200 Rally Pros and you really did justice to this bike. I'm 5'8" and I much preferred the 900, which will be my next bike. I need the 21" front wheel for off-road, and the 1200, though a truly amazing bike, just did not feel as manageable for me as the 900, which has a much more streamlined tank setup and has a lower seat height, especially when off-road. I also rode the 1200 GS, and I was surprised that the 1200 RP was a better ride and felt more complete and that I even enjoyed the 900 more than the GS - and I love the GS. You can adjust the height down 1" electronically for stops, but even then, it's a tall bike.

No need to have your phone in front of you. Very easy to link it and use google map on the screen. And if you buy the Explorer, you don't have to put 30 litres in; if you put 20 litres the weight is very similar to the Rally Pro/GT Pro.

If your worried about the bulk of the tank out the side you will need to go the 900. The extra 10l is at the back of the tank between your legs at the seat. In the rally pro there is a plastic insert there.

I think I need one of these to replace my SuperTenere. Do you do video's on how to convice a wife of the necessity ? I am not game to suggest I trade the Thruxton R she bought me a few years ago though !! That 30 litre tank would be ideal for runs across the Nullarbor, and the backlit switch gear is exactly what is missing from the SuperTenere, where taking your eyes off the road long enough to find the switches whilst on Kangaroo infested roads is too risky.

Good review. I would like at least to ride it back to back with the lighter 900, but like you I also like KTM SA 1290 and the 890 Adv which seem a lot more focussed machines and as you say a bit faster. Surprised you didn't mention or talk about the Tiger 1200's shaft drive? It was like the elephant in the room when you did the walk around but you didn't refer to it! Shaft drive is a huge plus, no chain to keep clean or maintain especially if riding off road. I'm shorter than you 5'7" so it would definitely be a lower seat version or the lighter version with the smaller fuel tank and 19" front wheel, or the Tiger 900 easier to pick up or either of the KTMs 890 Adv or 1290 SA, but not the GS just not a fan of them plus they don't have illuminated switch gear AFAIK. Not into Ducatis either. You could save yourself a bit of cash by getting a V-Strom or Versys or Tracer 9 GT Pro. But thanks for the review. You seem to have found your style and now building on it.

I don’t have to watch this video (I did watch it) to answer the question if it’s the best Adventure bike for 2022. The answer is hell no! If you are going to hit the road and di mostly pavement riding and may be some grandpa style off roading (mostly flat dirt roads), the may be. But real off road riding, other bikes, such as the Tenere 700 will easily beat it. And the T7 lacks all the electronic junk the Tiger has for less than half the price. Good luck finding someone who can work of bikes such as the Tiger or BMW 1250 GS, or parts, in a remote town in some third world country. I saw a guy get stuck in a South American country for nearly a month waiting for parts for his BMW. By contrast, a friend had to wait 5 days for part for his Suzuki V-Storm to arrive in Ecuador. Bottom line is this, to call any bike the best Adventure bike is 100% bull. Simply due to the facts that which bike is the best is subjective. It really comes down to what you like, how you plan to use it, how much money you want to spend, and how brain wash you are by whats in style or not. BMW as done an amazing job at selling their bikes as the ultimate world travel adventure bikes. Yet in two surveys 7 years apart showed that they are one of the too two least reliable bikes sold in the US. Only neaten by CanAm. Is that what you really want in a world adventure bike? Not to mention the weight of those bikes. Yeah, have fun unsticking them from mud or sand by yourself.

Just too much money for a bike for me you can have a just as much fun on less than half that cost, dare I say even a quarter of that cost makes no sense not for me my friend 😊👍

Fair enough, and I think you are right on the fun part 👍 I suppose if you have the money and want the newest most technically advanced bike then its perfect! It is a sight to behold in person haha Cheers
