Much better TFT display than the 900 Tiger

You would think it would be easy enough to issue a firmware update but no...#1 thing I don't like about the 900 is that stupidly useless (and large!) rev counter display that still does a hard job of displaying the revs.

A great review Toady, very comprehensive and useful as I consider my next bike. I loved by 2012 Explorer though the reliability and dealers let the whole experience down, hence my move away from the brand though looks like I might have to get a test ride booked in.

Great review 😎 Can you change all riding modes on the fly? Does it keep it in the last mode used when switching ignition off/ on? Cheers 🍻

@visordown 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, on a closed throttle, and on the mode saving, kind of. It will reset to road, but gives you the option of sticking with off road if you wish.

I think the GS has been taken pretty much as far as it can. The awful quickshifter, the noise at >4000rpm and the vibrations now outweigh the low speed stability and grunt. I will be selling mine; the decision is whether to get the KTM or the Triumph.

Excellent review with a lot of time and effort, my opinion is that Triumph is trying to copy BMW. With looks etc for me the GS is KING although I haven’t yet ridden the Tiger, wait until the big 1300 GS come out probably late this year or early next you just know it’s going to be extra special, and maybe it needs to be !.

I've seen some reviews of the new Tiger by now, and i notice something interesting... At the end of the review, the journalist often say: "So, is it better than the gs? Well, i believe we have to do a direct comparison to find out". That is nonesense. Most journos have ridden the gs many times, and they have all the knowledge needed to give an answer. Also, the gs have not really changed for many years, so there's no need to do a direct comparison. Grow some bal..!

I get that the shaft weighs, but you claim that is the best open class bike off road. Hmmmmmmmm. I just don't believe you. I can see that you might be impressed, but a Triumph (hardly a brand that is famous for producing proper off-roaders) is not likely to be better, let alone the sort of "Head and shoulders" better than the equivalent KTM, that you seem to be describing, and with a shaft as well! And then we've got the problem of the fact that you're effectively comparing 2, made for purpose bikes against one other that is deliberately aimed at the half way. Actually, the BMW GS series is always aimed at the road biased user, because that is where the huge majority of GS riders will spend their time. Yet, by all accounts, the KTM 1290 SA-S/Rs are significantly better off road, and only slightly worse on road. Really, none of this makes much sense. Pit the Tiger against the SA S or R for the off-road bit if you want, but then do the same on the road. Or do the same with the GS. But do it with the same bike, not 2, 3 or even 4 differently specced bikes against one from either BMW or KTM. The point about these bikes is the compromises they make, so comparing a no compromise road bike AND a no compromise off road against 2 different machines that have had to make choices on those compromises is just BS This is the trouble with biking journalism, modern bikes are so damned good that some journalists just can't steer clear of the hyperbole.
@glideman
@glideman 2 жыл бұрын
So the usual boring format where the paid for journalists tell us all, after coming off the free plane, free hotel, free food etc that this is THE best bike in the world! Then people order it and then just as we all get delivery of this new wonder bike, Oh wait, it's not as good as we originally thought. A few months down the road when everyone has stumped up their hard earned it's not as good as we thought but this new one is MUCH better. It's better than the BMW GS? lets see how good it is when proper bikers buy it with their own money......... I seem to remember the old triumph tiger being the dogs until bikers started riding it and it's now a pig? So called journalists need to stop taking bribes and start reporting on the bikes honestly, nobody in their right minds believes this stuff anymore.

Exactly, all these initial "test" videos being posted on the same day by various channels after having returned from a company sponsored riding weekend are useless and should be marked "advertisement."

@@sv650nyc7 People put down deposits & buy bikes on the basis of this foe journalism. It's about time this stopped. It's misleading buyers into buying something which is not what they think. No reputable journalists should be doing this to the public, it's dishonest. They need to find another way to make money from supplying media, KZbin could have been the answer to this where viewers paid the wages instead of the manufacturers paying for good reviews. My opinion is that anyone putting out "reviews" on anything where a free holiday paid for by the manufacturer is involved or ANY payment including free products should be ignored. Some KZbinrs such at The Missenden Flier have taken the lead buy not going on these holidays and saying what they actually think about the bikes. He doesn't seem to be doing badly from doing this.

yeah, I thought the same. I just picked up the Rally Explorer yesterday. I can sync my phone via bluetooth to the bike and access my contacts, sms change music via the joystick and bike screen... however I still haven't been able to do the turn by turn navigation on the bike screen via the Triumph App and their Nav software. Just keeps saying App won't connect to bike. I completely agree that it should just be a plug and play like apple car play with actual map on the screen. Most likely I will still be using the safari maps on my mounted phone screen or get a garmin gps for motorcycles to mount on the bars. It is a little absurd at this day in age with all the tech advances that's not standard on the bike's display.

That’s fine, if it’s too expensive for you there are lots of other bikes to choose from with/without all sorts of features that appeal to you. There’s never been a better time for choice.
@stevendemunster
@stevendemunster 2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, it is pointless. Motorcycle riding is about driving the thing yourself, be aware and keep your skills to the necessary level. A blind spot detection system makes you lazy and less aware. Other issue for me: the bikes are not made in Hinckley. A Triumph has to be made in the UK.

I love how that tubular subframe looks, testrode the old 850: hated it. Bad seating position, not that impressed with the handling. This is a Bavarian Behemoth copycat, and when you need that much computer interferance to even keep it shiny side up offroad, you have missed the mark in my book. Gonna stick with my 2000 Transalp with many mods, none technological, bc it was a good bike to begin with. Biggest expense so far new seat (worn out from 22 yrs. of troublefree service.

@@visordown 😁, love tearing up the green lanes in the Benelux or Eifel, but i am no Ricky Brabec. I am all for safety features like ABS and that radar blind spot warning. But they all ad weight, making the behemoths unmanageable and give 'some' riders a false sense of security. A, A1&2 licensing was a good start, but new riders should learn to manage their machine without assistance. Still gonna request a testride, you got to keep up with changes. I'll be really old one day, let's hope they have pick your bike up assist by than.😮‍💨

Why even comment on electronics if you still live in the dark ages. Has saved myself and the bike more than I would even realise. I can actually ride with greater peace of mind whilst being faster and safer.
