Nice series of service videos UNB. Easy to follow and understand. Good practice for removing all hoses from their spigots is to insert a 90degree pick and run it around the inside of the hose before twisting it off. hope this helps next time

Thanks I have a number of things to try on the water pump hose I just couldn’t get it to budge.

Good to see how others do these service jobs. I've Changed my Tiger coolant a couple of times now, and many times on my very similar 1050 Sprint... here's a couple of extra tips which might help... It's less mess to pull the hose off at the water pump before opening the cap, drain and bleed screws, just twist the hose, lift the edge of the hose with a screwdriver and poke the straw of a can of WD40 or GT85 in the gap, and twist again. Worth flushing by running a hose into the rad while it's empty - particularly first coolant change, mine had quite a lot of grit flushed out. Put a 20mm-ish thick piece of wood under alternate centre stand legs to tilt the bike and fully drain the system, and when filling. I've never refilled with as much as Triumph claim is in the system, the little extra you get out by tilting the bike still doesn't get the same volume out, my Sprint was the same, so not sure where the extra went!

Thanks for the tips. I have to do my Thruxton soon so I will take these in to consideration.

For the bottom hose, I normally use a pair of gland pliers with a bit of rag to protect the hose. Then rotate the hose till you hear bond break then it just pulls off 👍

With regards to the coolant capacity and the amount used, there will always be some coolant left in the system if the thermostat is shut. After the initial fill, run the engine up to temp with the rad cap off and the thermostat will open. You will see the rad coolant level drop as the rest of the system fills with coolant. Turn off the engine. Top up the rad and fill expansion bottle to minimum level.

When it comes down to those type of works involving fluids is occasionally difficult to tell if everything is ok or now.. I watched all the series even tho I just bought a tiger 1050 and I have to say massive thanks 🙏 for sharing your knowledge and also .. good job! That took you busy for a little while.. hope you still enjoy your rides. 😊

I always keep my level just above the minimum in the header/expansion tank. Both my old 955 and my 2014 tiger have boiled over in hot countries. You probably don't need to worry too much given your user name and location😂 Thanks for showing us all these videos 👍

Thanks. I like to do a bit of. Spannering and it always helps to see someone else do it first. And yes it doesn’t get too hot here 😀

Hi UNB. Great series of vids thanks. My local Triumph dealer told me that the "new" pink/orange coolant pushes the change frequency out to 5 years instead of 2 yearly with the previous green coolant.

Very useful.. I did the bad mistake of buying a triumph tiger like yours without any service history.. and now it feels I am paying the price for it.. bike overheating, clunky, had to change the rear wheel bearings, front breaks pads, the rotors are pitted and vibrate during breaking, rear suspension is soft on the hardest setting… all in all.. is a mess

I don’t envy you. Houses are so expensive and you have to spend evenings doing diy etc. Hope all goes well.

Hi UNB. I changed the coolant on my tiger sport a couple of months ago. A wiggle and twist got my hose off the pump ok but I’ve had rouble like you on other machines and found using WD 40 with tube attached and squirted under the pipe with the help of a small screwdriver or similar, usually breaks it free. Didn’t know about that bleed screw on the top of the rad on the tiger though. Noted for next time. Cheers.

For the stuck hose I just use an air gun on my compressor to break it free. Kinda like when you take of handgrips

Really useful set of videos, thank you! I just changed my coolant, I got just over 2 litres out and I put 2 litres back in. Did you have to refill it after a run?
@upnorthbiker

No I left it to run for a while after I changed it and topped it up. It stayed at that level after that. Glad the video helped
