I'm just finishing this same frame work on my TR6 and can confirm that you don't need to remove the top or trunk lid for this, but nice to have them out of the way. There is a LOT of stuff to disconnect. I also left the doors installed and closed. I lifted the body off with the help of some friends and a couple of rope hoists looped over my garage rafters. My frame was in pretty good shape overall, but I replaced both trailing arm mount sections, patched in all new rail bottom sections under the lower t-shirt and the lower t-shirt plate itself. I found a cracked weld in the front to fix, and welded the top side of the diff mounts, which must have been fixed with the body on so they couldn't weld the top plate crack. I wanted to finish quickly, so I didn't pull the engine and totally strip the frame, but I will say it's almost worth the extra work just to not have to do so much welding and grinding overhead.

So I haven't finished on this frame yet, but that's exactly why the engine was pulled. The front is in decent shape. Maybe a short bead of weld by a support bracket in the front, but that's it. The engine came out mainly so I can flip the frame over instead of welding/grinding underneath. It's probably more work but I think it'll save time in the end and probably end up a wash. Also the end result will be better.
