Good move with replacing the fan. The stock fan was actually really good, but only if it has a shroud, one that it never came with. I made a shroud for one back in the '80s and the difference in airflow was astonishing... you could feel a strong wind back at the windshield at idle!. That said, the fan clutch is probably that expensive as it's the same part used in a Jaguar V12 (same with the shims for the bucket tappets in the head). Still, an electric is definitely the way to go as the stock fan is also noisy. The ignition key should also work in the glove box. They did an interesting trick (at least with my first two, maybe it's a common re-key job) where the first few cuts of the ignition key matches the entire glove-box key. I used to keep a huge heavy screwdriver in my trunk for when my starter seized up like that... a couple whacks and it'd start right up. Alternatively, I'd just push-start it. It's amazing how easily they'll push-start in 2nd gear (I did it solo many times). A quality-of-life improvement will be getting an oil-filter adapter so you can use regular oil-filters instead of the horribly messy cartridge type it currently has on it. Once you drive it, you'll notice it has (more than) a bit of dive in the front when you hit the brakes. This is normal. There are two fixes. One is a reworked brake distribution valve from Woody's Wedge Shop or TS Imports (I forgot which, it's been many years) that gives a 50/50 brake balance (stock is way over-calibrated for the front). The other is a mounting block that goes under the front anti-roll-bar to lower it a bit. You'll notice that the roll-bar doubles as a "brake strut" or "strut rod" (name depends on where you're from) that keeps the lower control-arm in position. In stock position, pulling back on the control-arm (under breaking) also wants to compress the suspension because the pivot point is so high. Lowering it fixes that. It's less of a problem on a TR8 as the entire K-member on the TR8 is lowered (with shim) away from the subframe rails. Also, if you haven't rebuilt the rear brake-cylinders, do so. The kits are cheap and you'll find it an easy job. Sometimes they seize, and sometimes they pit... you won't know until you use them. Considering the amount of water in your brake and clutch lines, I'd bet they at least need to be cleaned up with new seals tossed in.

Thank you so much for the great information and tips! We replaced the rear brake cylinders and basically everything (all lines).

I can comment on how easy they are to push start because I've actually pushed started the one that I had in high school many times by myself with the door open and jump in to start it with the gear in the second or third position and then I pull the door to and continue on to get to the school.

So, have we given up on the TR7? I enjoyed the three part series and was hoping for more. I own a 1980 TR7 Spider edition and like to learn about them as much as possible. Mine is currently in the dormant, electrical nightmare stage, but we are hopeful to have her running for next spring.

I am also about to buy a TR7, But this one is a hard top. The one I found is in better shape body wise, but its missing the whole intake assembly and needs a new water pump impeller. Funny enough, the one I am buying is also $800

Be careful. Don't put your Triumph on fire !! 🔥🚒. British auto fuses are not rated like US fuses. They have peak current ratings whereas our ratings are continuous. So that little 50A British fuse probably equates to a 20 or 25 Amp US fuse ! That big 50A (as Mick Jagger sang about) will surely allow your wiring to melt, then you'll have a well done TR7. I'm enjoying the vids. Keep'em coming and good luck with the TR7 !

You're lucky your not in California where the EPA Nazis don't allow variations after 1975. My brother had one of the first TR7's in California so it has a special place in my family.
