Delboy's Garage sounds simple but a lot of people over look it. Myself I’m an amateur I’ve just bought my first bike, ‘half’ a mk1 bandit. Ton of work to do but I think it’s fair to say you give people in my position the confidence to go for it. It’s really been a bit of a turning point in my life having something to do I’ve discovered a bit of a love for life again. Couldn’t do it without some grade A tuition like this, stuff you can’t learn in no book. Thanks for replying and all the great videos. Al

Very nice job and fortunate idea. In my opinion the original mudguard was very long and so much classic, like several custom models.

Awesome....but then I'm pretty sure you knew that I was hoping you'd go there!! I'll be interested to see if you do anything to the pre-molded, flattened shapes that are left in the fender. Don't understand why so many manufacturers of bikes leave the back-ends of them so gaudy! Tail tidy was the one of the first things I did to my old DR and will be one of the first things done to the Tenere! Bike's gettin better lookin all the time...cheers, D & P!
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Allen, thank you Sir, it does look a lot more in keeping with the ride height now, and guides the overall style in the right direction... the little pressed mount holes in the tail will be plated on the inside and plug welded, just to add a little strength to the now un-supported tin fender as it'll carry the weight of a tail tidy a little higher up, just providing a little more rigidity. Take care and have a great weekend, D&Px

Hi Dell, why don't you use a Multi Tool with a BIM blade, you could have used it to cut those bolts (or the nuts) and those plastic lugs (although I think I would've tried cutting a slot first for a screwdriver), you could have probably used to also cut the mud guard without all the sparks, just a thought. Cheers, Gordon

Nice model Del I can't get over the crap quality of the original components used on the rear of the bike. It just goes to show that although we have come a long way in technical design of motorbikes it certainly comes at a price in the overall quality of the product we buy. Look forward to the next video. Maybe it might be a ride on the Busa? Nick Australia
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, you're right mate, it always makes me chuckle when the keyboard warriors blather on that OEM is best and then you look at this Fisher Price crap, sadly nothing's changed, they're still clipping this garbage on to today's bikes, and yeah, the ones they charge over £10k for!... makes yer teeth curl aye mate? Busa's nearly there in the background, the boring wiring's all laced together and working, just got to tidy it all up and shroud the harness, then it'll be ready for a test ride to the MOT station, just doing it in the background as it's not interesting stuff at this point! Ride safe mate, have a great weekend.

Really looking forward to how this progresses, more my sort of bike. Spent a while looking at it paused at 12.14 . If possible could i make a suggestion Del. If you drew a line from the underside of the tank back to the guard and make the cut horizontal and it might flow quite nicely with the tank. Have a look at a Triumph Thruxton and youll see what im very badly trying to explain. Not a criticism mate, just an idea, i really like the way this bike is going.

You do good work I’m still figuring your torques from meter to lbs and mm to inch pounds. Anyway I’m the guy with questions on your 04 Wide Glide series. I have a couple questions: you used a soft undercoating under your fender but I haven’t seen it in the US but found 3M rubberized undercoating sounds close as direction’s say. I have my rim off 09 Fat boy but has 25mm bearings the rim has 50 miles on it so I bought 25mm to 3/4” bearing reducers that should be all I need or do I have to go through complete axle shaft with reducer? I couldn’t find a Fat Boy fender wider than 6” and the rim calls for a 140/75/17 tire 5.501 wide to tight so I bought a 130/80/17 tire that will work. I have a factory numbered paint job Yellow with black flames and red highlights on flames. I can’t find the 05 colors used. How would you go about painting a Softail Custom fender to match using stray cans. I believe the fender yellow first I have a steady hand can draw but brushing the flames on with black and red highlights and some shadow black. I know airbrushes are the right way but don’t own one never used one maybe masking like you did and cutting out the lines? Anyway do you know what brand spray can paint will get me a close match? Or where to find the actual colors used? Thanks
@jamesmich49734 жыл бұрын
100 percent better. It makes me wonder why guys still keep stock rear assemblies and what not. Instead they should get rid of all that low hanging design and go for a sleeker more sporty look.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
I think it's because, now that they make the long hanging tail ends a bolt on affair, that they know we're gonna remove them and make them detachable, so they can sell you a 'tail tidy', I think the construction rules governing factories play a great part in it... plus of course it feeds the aftermarket industry... and the 'genuine' accessory market!
@barabekiu4 жыл бұрын
Why not to cut it in line with the back of the seat, nicely carving towards the front of the mudguard, and do tail tidy ?
@plageran4 жыл бұрын

If he did that then all of the dirt and road grime will just go all the way up his back while riding and it ain't a good look when turning up to a bike meet.

Cool mod, Del! Can’t wait to see this one all done up... hope you both are doing well. I’m trying to figure out why the wife’s Vespa 300GTV is buzzing like a cell phone on vibrate after she turns it off. I’m hoping it’s just the fuel system equalizing is done such. In any event. Stay safe! 🏍👍🏍
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary... there's a few things that can make strange noises in your scooter.. depends what exact kind of buzzing (or humming), it is, and where it's coming from.. Does she switch the scooter off by flipping the kill switch (and the ignition still on)? if so that could be the cooling fan !! or maybe the fuel pump ?, if it's coming form the fuse box it could be the starter solenoid !! see if you can locate the source and maybe that'll reveal it... Or does it happen with the ignition completely off?.. then that could be pressure equalizing in the fuel tank !! maybe a partially blocked vent tube ?.. Hope that maybe helps in some way buddy.. good luck with it, and have a good week both.. !
@garya30564 жыл бұрын

Two smart moves in this video. 1) Saving that high dollar cheap plastic for some restorer. I was blown away by the crappy condition of the chrome. Especially since I rode Brit Bikes in the60s and restored a couple in the 90s.Every single one had very superior chrome. Even in the 90s the 65 BSA and the 73 Triumph still had that deep almost blue British chrome. 2) Changing the shape of that Fugly rear fender. Now do something about that ugly stepped seat.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, you're dead right, I've no idea what they're using for chrome these days, but it's little better than spit and tissue! No wonder so many people paint and powder coat over it these days... we bought Penny's Scrambler in 2013 brand new, never intentionally rode it in the rain, just the odd commute when you got caught, and the spokes were rusting within 9 months, just absolutely appalling durability, and why we replaced the wheels entirely with alloy rims and stainless spokes, something the factory still isn't doing to this day... but hey, built down to a price right?!

Hiya Del, I reckon the seat doesn't look right and needs reshaped or something... but whatever that something is I'll leave in your capable hands!! Keep up the good work brother

The time has come, the owner said, to shorteneth it's bum, 'cos now the height has been increased, it's like a flattened thumb. So our hero waves his disc & neatly carves his ride, but why do I know, that I'd end up, with a different shape each side?! (I tried to cut a three legged stool to be nice & level once, ended up with lots of sawdust & a wooden rug. A level floor does help of course, but hey, Capt. Hindsight's never there when you need him . . . Do have a great w/e : ) x

If you are going for a scrambler, then ok, but for a cafe racer or modern classic, it needs some work on the stance... (my opinion - that is like the thing everyone has)
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
There really isn't much point in labeling the style with a generic name, as has been demonstrated with other builds, it causes too much dissent due to people's different perception of the 'rules' of each generic style... I just know I wanted the cruiser bike stance and 'grandpa' feel updated... it was not an attractive cruiser bike by any means, so it needed something, but since you've mentioned the word scrambler, take a look at the modern 1200 Scrambler from Triumph, there certainly is a resemblance already, so who knows, but it will be what it will be, as they say!
