Matilda was a warrior. She didn’t take it laying down. Some strong women back then. Matilda, eleanor, and others. I really want to read Charles Spencer’s book. It would be awesome if the sword was used in fighting against the Viking for Alfred or Edward.

For real, that's why I like her. The sword was likely an aristocratic weapon so it's possible but I think it might've been a couple of generations before the viking era in England

Thanks Justin! You’ve convinced me to pick up Ravenna. Added to my list of books to purchase after I’m done The Read What You Own challenge. The Perfect Sword sounds really great too. Isn’t that amazing that the sword could lie there uncatalogued and undocumented like that!? It makes you wonder what other hidden treasures are out there in a drawer or museum or archive store room.

For real haha. Lots of archeologists actually go back through older debris and stuff decades later sometimes.when we develop better techniques or know what to look for

Sounds pretty good. As far as medieval naval warfare goes, I'm all about Byzantium. I mean, Greek fire, hello? Yeah, it was probably less impressive than I imagine it, but whatever. 😂 Don't think I'd heard about The Perfect Sword. I'll have to check that out. My personal medieval white whale has to be the five volume Hundred Years' War series by Sumption. I love the era, but it's still an intimidating prospect. 😁 Have a nice weekend!

Did John put you up to that? It's like 3000 pages haha. I don't know if I've read something specially on just the 100 years war

Have you read House of Lilies: The Dynasty That Made Medieval France by Justine Firnhaber-Baker? I’m not medieval history guy at all but this book looks pretty intriguing to me (honestly mostly because it has a killer cover)

I have heard of it when it came out last year but have not picked it up yet. It sounds great! And the cover doesn't hurt either lol
