You don’t need fret wraps with Floyd Rose locking tuners right? Or do you?
@prototype99043 жыл бұрын
yes and no ~ they serve two functions, the floyd eliminates one of them
@Nicksperiments3 жыл бұрын
Yes. The fret wrap mainly stops the open strings from ringing when doing solos which will happen no matter what kind of tuners or bridge you have. You still need to dampen the little bits of sting at the top of the headstock and the springs on a Floyd rose but a fret wrap doesn’t do either of those. You could use one for the top of the headstock but it’s mainly for open string ringing, not mechanical noise
@alexaraya20183 жыл бұрын
why doesn't Yingwie, Vai or Eddie use them, and why did satch started to use a dampener vice?

I've never used a fret wrap, does it actually even do anything ? I can't say I've ever thought "oh I need to cover the nut with cloth because it's causing such and such problems" ?
@mattsolegod4 жыл бұрын
Ash Cosmo yes! It helps drown noise from sloppiness that comes from picking too hard or bending too much, etc.
@metalpuppet57984 жыл бұрын
@@mattsolegod haha. Bullshit. It helps getting rid of overtones that happen behind the nut. Regardless of how perfect your technique is. There will be vibrations behind the nut that you cant stop with technique. Thats why those things are important. Especially for high gain players.
@BezuMusician2 жыл бұрын
@@metalpuppet5798 Does it work like a capo also on the frets? Or its just for the overtones and to stop extra strings ringing out while doing sweeps, legato and tapping etc?
@metalpuppet57982 жыл бұрын
@@BezuMusician no it doesnt. You can pull it further forward if you only play in the higher frets for a solo for example. But it doesnt push down the strings onto the frets
@BezuMusician2 жыл бұрын
@@metalpuppet5798 Thanks a lot for the reply. Clears my doubts on that aspect. I only do home recordings so I guess this would be a good thing for me to get cleaner recordings and avoid extra notes/ overtones. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the pick noise, basically the "chak chak" sound that comes while recording into Logic Pro X directly through my Antelope Zen Go audio interface using the Line 6 Helix Native plug in? I find that on the higher frets, there's always some pick noise on high gain patches. Somehow I haven't figured out how to get rid of those pick sounds though sometimes they get covered in the mix. Is it a technique issue?

I mean this in the nicest way, did we need signature fret wraps? Hey gruv gear, if u want to innovate, figure out a way for the wrap to clear my.locking nut when sliding on the fret mboard for a solo and off for the rest f the song.

Thanks Robbie, it's part of Matt's branding initiative and his fans dig them! The product you're describing is already out -- Check www.gruvgear.com/fretwedge which complements FretWraps so you won't even need to slide it over the locking nut. Also most players using FretWraps on locking nuts just place it right over it, and rock it forward to engage, backward to disengage. Hope this helps!

@aryinc4 жыл бұрын
@@adamkatona7784 but some used it tough or a sock in the studio for those mechanical side effects, like dampening floyd string neithe can do harm. i had/have a floyd that would make mechanical noise everytime i muted the strings so i put a piece of foam underneath the springs,so can do no harm then and for rythm parts you can do this wrap technique but you cn also edit the mechanical noise away in post production. live, never use such things like a fretwrap. if it's behind the neck, well yeah nothing can sound f...ed in the mix, but putting that thing halfway. those dynamics will die out due to the push of the wrap. learn how to mute is certainly rule nr 1, then you don't even need such thing, learn to play clean.
