I feel like "Court of the Dragon" is in the same vein, as it encapsulates "Ascendancy", "Crusade", and "Shogun". While I had to get used to that album, after not really having been into Trivium since those three, I got into it exactly because it feels like those three. Like... "Phalanx" is much along the lines of the track 'Shogun'. This long groovy epic type song.

This is him?... What's on the "Dragon"-album?... Programming?... A lot of this is messy compared what he did on that album, which is insane. This... this is kind of a mess, but perhaps it's exactly that it's not completely his style and it's difficult to adapt or something. I mean, Travis' style was much more "groovy", almost old-school at this point, obviously inspired by even older drummers, while Alex is... more like the new-age machines of Metal. - This ain't it, however. That said, studio and live are different beasts, and these drumtracks are intense. - But still, I wouldn't guess this is the same person.

@Michael Angelo H. What I'm saying is that he didn't do the studio recording of Shogun for the album. Alex wasn't in the band until 4 albums later. But in this playthrough, he stayed very true to the original recording. There is almost none of his own style in it. I saw them play it live about a week after this video was uploaded and again, he played it almost exactly like it was played on the album.

@@michaelangeloh.5383 almost every band on the planet quantizes the drums to the grid after recording them when they're tracking for an album, which is why album drums always sound so perfect. The best way to describe album drums is that a human is playing them with robotic precision. Live will never be perfect because it's an actual human with the precision of a human. Alex is an absolute monster if you watch some of his other playthroughs of Trivium stuff
