Excellently stated. I met Trivium July 2018, got them to sign my Jackson King V as well. I only got to talk to them for about 30 seconds but I did get a picture with them. I told them the story of how I got into Trivium. For the better part of a decade, I literally only listened to Metallica, because the rock I heard on the radio sucked. I ended up buying the Guitar World issue that was a tribute to Dimebag Darrell, and it had a tab for A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation. I couldn't (and still can't, frankly) play it, not at speed anyway, but it sounded cool, so since I had Guitar Pro on my computer, I put in the tab and let it play it back for me as I tried to learn the song. I ended up thinking "Well maybe all modern music doesn't suck." So in a sense, Trivium was my gateway to modern metal.

You were right, it was a breakdown, just in a different style. Every style of metal (metalcore, deathcore, mathcore, tech-death, black metal, death metal, djent, prog, etc) all do breakdowns in their own way, it's just that the roots come from hardcore music so a lot of people only think of that specific style when they think of breakdowns.
