The Ken doll was accidentally gay. The researchers for the fashion went to raves to find what young people would be drawn to but what they didn’t know was raves were attended by mostly gay men as a secret meeting kinda place without fear of homophobia. It’s 90’s rave fashion not gay fashion , however 90’s rave fashion was defined by gay men.

Ok so the story behind Magic Earring Ken was while doin market research they found a lot of ppl saying Ken wasn't as cool or dressed lame. So they went to clubs to see what trendy, young men were wearing since the club scene/aesthetic was becoming more popular. These clubs were of course gay clubs of the time but the folks doing research were clueless heterosexuals who didn't know what certain accessories meant. So the intention was not to make Ken "gay" but cooler. I think they did a good job considering how well the sales were lol

OMG I remember the Totally Hair Barbie as if it happened a year ago. EVERY GIRL from my classroom had one, my neighbors had one... my mom wouldn’t let me have a Barbie so I had Kens instead, as if it were less gay 🤣
@TallulahFoxxx4 жыл бұрын
Junior Casemiro I don’t know what it is, but all the people I knew (including myself) who had TH Barbie...IMMEDIATELY gave her a haircut. Usually an unflattering pixie crop with bald spots 😂😂😂 why are kids like that?! 😩😭

Maybe show the dolls you own that aren’t Barbies? I’m sure each one of those would have a story behind it since you’re mostly a Barbie collector

what is trixie's opinion on Bratz the gurls who murdered Barbie
@Adv184 жыл бұрын
*the girls who tried to murder barbie, but ultimately got chopped to pieces and hidden under the floorboards in barbies dream house after Mattel shut them down? Or do you mean the Bratz that basically lost popularity after the 00s ended?

I had so many of these. I’m deeply offended that “Hot Skatin’ Barbie” didn’t make your list. Skintight neon 90s printed catsuit, snap on rollerblades AND ice skates, fully jointed body! It’s a good thing I’m Covid-broke and can’t go snatch one up off eBay, but you better be adding Barbie and Midge to your collection.

I was waiting for Rollerblade Barbie to show up! What's more iconic than a Barbie that was recalled because somehow they thought giving her skates that shoot out actual sparks was a safe idea

I'm a kid of the 90's and I LOVED my Barbies. My favorite was one of the most boring line of dolls, Tropical Splash but I honestly didn't care. I had a Teresa doll. She was the only Latina (like me) and I love her and her big ass earrings.

I’m having a traumatic flashback. I was a child of the 90s & I think I had “Totally Hair Barbie” because I remember the dress & Dep. But there was another Barbie called “Cut and Style Barbie” who came with hair extensions that velcroed to the back of her head. The idea was “play hair salon, but it’s okay because she has more long hair!” & I think I may have confused the two and I might have chopped all the hair of Totally Hair Barbie... As an adult who loves pop culture and kitch, I’M CRINGING at the fact I may have scalped a Barbie that is now a collectable.

I also had “Cut and Style Barbie” and 7 year old me managed to give her a bald patch on day 1! A few years later she got a full buzz cut and I transitioned her into a Ken lol

Gurl! My favorite 90s Barbie hands down, is Rollerblade Barbie. I loved that doll so much. I used to still have at least one Rollerblade left from her little feet, but I have not seen it in several years. That shit sparks when you roll it! I was like, this Barbie looks dope, and is dope. She had the cutest outfit ever and I remember wanting one for myself but, they didn't make shit like that for little girls.

I’m getting a little actual anxiety that we’re going to run out of decades at some point! You need to already be working on what comes *NEXT* after this series. We’re all the way here for it and we don’t even know what it is yet.💘
