The ES175 and ES295 are my dream guitars. I love that Florentine cutaway. I own an ES175 copy (that is absolutely awesome for the price my wife paid for it) and an ES Les Paul Hollow Body with the F holes. I actually just got a Bigsby for my ES 175 copy, some locking tuners, a roller bridge and some vintage voiced Alnico 5 pickups. Looking forward to upgrading it.

14:40 With every guitar you should reduce string tension to almost slack before attempting to adjust either the bridge height or saddle positions. Bridge components are often made of Brass and will prematurely wear and/or damage the threads if moved under string tension. Love this GOTM, wish Gibson would do something like this again.
@RideAcrossTheRiver9 күн бұрын
Are you saying to get strings to slack for adjustments of .001 inch? How is action to be set 3/64" treble and 5/64" bass on a loose, flopping string?

I have a Westone Les Paul copy I just fitted with a Bigsby. This has the Florentine cut, the 4 holes for control are mirrored (neck vol&tone is closer to the bridge, low radius fretboard (really fast ..too fast sometimes) with inlays that are kind of an hourglass shape, I guess it looks like an LP Standard inlay but imagine the top half is mirrored onto the bottom. I never knew these LP-295's existed. Thanks Trogly and greetings from Hungary

There’s one Gibson Hollow body id love to have in my collection. It would be an ES-295. Just something about it that looks so vintage, but looks so cool. But for a single cut size, it looks cool as well. Add the F holes, and you got a really cool LP size 295.

I had this model some years ago before because I love the 295, the les paul goldtop and parallelogram inlays. They were not super expensive and got it for less than 2k in 2018. I remember this guy gave me a low ball offer for it. Anyhow, some things to add to this review for anyone looking to get one: The rosewood has a nice color but it has very big pores similar to laurel, I see the same in the example from Trogly. The lacquer is very thick and feels like plastic. The binding is not yellow, but rather is that 2008 horrendous peach pink-binding, same with the plastics. The Bigsby is the Korean made B-70, not the US made. Concur that the Bigsby is too close to the bridge. The body is a 2 piece. All in all, the concept is great but falls short in execution.

@Trogly: There is math to estimate the total number of guitars based on a sample of the serial numbers. Interestingly the origin of this branch of Mathematics lies in WW2, where the British and Americans were able to produce pretty close estimates of German tank production based on the serial numbers of parts in captured tanks.

When archtops with Venetian cutaways tend to have wider or more bulbous horns, it just feels wrong to say the normal Les Pauls narrow horn is Venetian just feels wrong. Size wise it is closer to Florentine but without being as pointy. There should be a designation in between, if there isn’t already. And if anybody knows of one, please comment on this and let me know.

Could you or somebody explain the scale measurement to me? That tape measure is weird in that it has inches at the top and half inches at the bottom. So it looks like what you're measuring is 24 and 3/4 half inches. Explain please.
@aluminati99189 күн бұрын
Hi. Good question, and you’re not the first one to ask. It’s a special measuring tape with full inches and inches at 1/2 scale. This way you can quickly measure scale length by just taking a measurement at 12th fret, using the 1/2 scaled inches numbers. I’ve never seen it other than in Trog’s vids. 😅
@RoboSteave8 күн бұрын
@@aluminati9918 Thanks! I've had a lot of tape measures none like that. Just one thing, on a guitar with 22 frets, why is the scale. double 12? Thanks again.
@aluminati99188 күн бұрын
@@RoboSteave Hi. That´s another good question. That´s because the12th fret is the octave note (I.E the definition of the half of the full string length) So 12th fret is always half the string length regardless of instrument type, number of frets etc. Hope this was of some use. 😅
