I think it’s great Gibson is offering some U.S.A. made Epiphone instruments. I’ve spent time with a 1980s Masterbuilt Japan Epiphone that was a fantastic guitar as well as some original vintage versions, I think this U.S.A. Version most certainly fills the market gap. Thanks for the review. I do hope Gibson will build a few U.S.A. Epiphone solid body instruments in the future, although the Wiltshire models kind of directly compete with the Gibson Junior and Special Models, so I’m not holding my breath.

What Gibson is doing with Epiphone at the moment is excellent. Reintroducing US made higher end models, re-introducing the old style Kalamazoo headstock, which looks much better IMHO and at the same time upping the quality of the Epiphone import models through the Inspired by Gibson Line and Masterbilt reissues. Whoever in Gibson is responsible for this strategy, of attempting to raise Epiphone back to the prestige level it use to occupy (up to 1970) needs to be given a medal!

Too bad that both VS versions still have the neck inlays upside down....not really good research on reviving the old model. The Chinese versions may be plasticky for some guitar snobs, but they got the inlays correct and out of personal experience, a far more beautiful, let alone PRESENT sustain. So.... more than 2000 bucks for these reissues and they still got finish and sound issues??? No way.

I can almost guarantee you where that buzz was coming from. I've heard it 1000 times. I have a vintage ES330, as well as a couple modern Japanese-made Casinos. When you were getting that buzz on your bench, you had the pickup selector switch in the middle position. If you put the switch in either of the other two positions, you would not get that buzz. The reason is this: when it's in the middle, the tension springs on it are essentially slack, and the switch shaft vibrates against them causing a metallic rattle. When the switch is engaged either lead or rhythm, the tension is greater on the switch shaft, and no more rattle. I'd almost bet that's the source.

TY for the Show & Tell demo. I was waiting for a good demo on the USA version. I was hoping for a remake of the early 60s Sunburst but apparently not. Oddly, my '14 Chinese Casino is the closest remake - it has the same "plastic-y" feel as the US version but the Chinese model has the period correct frequensator tail piece, metal P90 covers, and "e" truss rod cover that the US remake does not have. And my Chinese version does NOT have the finish issues thats the US remake has on yours. On the flip side, the US has the correct stain on the back and beautiful neck where as my Chinese version has the sunburst finish on the side/back which is not correct on the '60s version. And the pickups on my Chinese version are just slightly hotter than the US version so I prefer the pickups in the US version as the electronics are superior. Is the US verision $2k better? Beauty/Functionality of the US Epi vs Chinese Epi is in the eye of the beholder.

chrome pickups, and a natural finish option lol…my only question is do I hold out for when they inevitably put that out?
@tubetone742 жыл бұрын
Are the chrome pickups w/ covers or one just piece? Years ago I bought some "chrome" looking plastic P-90 covers. Don't know if they are still being made.
@henrydiaz7202 жыл бұрын
They've cleaned up their act on that. That makes these allegedly "made in usa" models useless, except for making you pay twice as much for a label. And look at all the faults! The imports are flawless! As I say, f*ck gibson.

The buzz is the three way selector. My Casino does the same thing when in the middle position. Switch to the neck or bridge and it goes away.

Both of my other seas Casinos had a better QC. But i watched this video 7 times, then bought the USA made model. Zero regrets. Thanks for the great review 🙂

How much difference overall are these Gibson made products compared to the Epi Import models? They are a serious price difference so at what point does the diminished return aspect apply?

Ooooo fancy!! 2 things- I wonder if that buzz is the pickguard where it sits on the dogears? And did you try the other one plugged in? I'm really curious if the metal cover changes the sounnd much. In theory it should, like putting a metal cover on a humbucker.

Was there any difference in the sound between the two, with the different pickup covers? I like the lighter one and would like to have heard it.

The buzz that you’re hearing is in fact the bridge piece. it’s also a common issue in the import model casinos even with the wire placed on the bridge.
@subrosablues3 жыл бұрын
The buzz may be the switch tip (or the switch itself), it happens occasionally on my 330.

Wow! Great video!! Very detailed and you captured the tone that I have been seeking for so long. I tried the chinese Casinos and the Gary Clark Jr. Blak and Blue but they didn’t sound like yours. Please, I couldn’t find any info about the amp you recorded with. Or is it a something like a Kemper? Cheers, Rob

I've wanted a Casino forever, it's always been the guitar I forget about when I'm buying guitars for some reason. But seeing that dark burst has me GASing hard for that one. After 45 years it just might happen.

Does anyone know how it compares to the '65 Elitist model? A couple years ago -having spent numerous years with the standard casino - I made the leap to the '65 reissue (Elitist? Really?) which unexpectedly made my standard model more or less, obsolete (it's my open G guitar). They're not part of what I call, The Beatles Series, instead its a true reissue of the casino's from 1965 model. It's absolutely amazing. So amazing that I can't.... imagine... how they could make the casino even better.
@LikeMarmaladeSkies2 жыл бұрын
So, I too made the leap to the Elitist and is is absolutely stunning so don’t need to tell you how great they are. But I’ve now played two USA Casinos and here are my observations: The USA hasn’t got such a loud and acoustic resonance that my Elitist has - it’s close… but the USA feels tighter and almost like a centre-blocked ES-335. The materials are premium quality and the grains on the front and back are dazzling. The playability is similar, but the USA neck is wider and you can feel a little more tension in your hand muscles.. whereas the Elitist is slimmer and easier to travel. The build quality is spit between the two for a host of reasons… firstly, the VS finish on the USA is nicer and more premium looking. It looks more balanced and vibrant in every style of lighting. Whereas my Elitist can look too yellow or the sunburst grading isn’t gentle enough in certain lighting. However, both the USA examples had matte black paint inside the F-holes that hid the ply-construction (which looks thicker) - but the inner surfaces needing sanding otherwise if you ran you fingers through the F-holes you’d most certainly get a splinter… Plugged in though, the USA just had an extra 20% of character in the tone. More sustain, more girth, more everything. Just sounded better - few people sat and watched me play it because of how good it sounded! But returning home to see my Elitist was a welcoming sight as mine looks identical to Lennon’s which is important to me. Those USA ones won’t match any of the Beatles’ one due to their irregular design alterations. Also, the Elitist just feels more comfortable to play and flawless in terms of QC. My final verdict is the USA ones are fantastic and look so so unique. I want one very much and could see myself owning one soon and keeping it indefinitely.

I bought the olive drab Cass last year but I have discovered I love the casino model... now I wonder if I should buy the next model up for around 600 or the USA made Casino for 2500£?! hard decision.

I like the sound of the Casino more than the 330 Lovell.... What amp are you using? I even like the dirt on the bridge pu!

the string buzz is probably coming from a loose washer on the tuning pegs. thats what it sounds like to me at least.
@EndResultAudio3 жыл бұрын
In regards to the rattle at 16 minutes, that sounds just like my 330. On mine it is the pickup selector. Pushing the switch to the left or right stops it for a while.

Serial number on the headstock says 56th day of 2021, i.e Feb 25. Pickups are dated 3/5/21, i.e. 64th day. What gives?

Cool video! I have an Epiphone Granada circa 1967, made in Kalamazoo - I removed the hideous pickguard and had a luthier cut a second f-hole and make a pickup mount out of rosewood - sweet guitar.
@HiFiMonki3 жыл бұрын
I know what the buzz could be. I had an old Washburn semi hollow and it had the same problem. It turned out it was the pickup wires running to the pots resting on the top of the guitar. So when I strummed the top would vibrate against the wires and make a noise. I put a piece of tape inside and taped he wires to the top and it stopped the buzz.

You said when you first looked at it you werent really convinced. It didnt look like a Gibson. It jus shows how our perception of brand affiliation sets standards you look for ,Knowing this is not a Gibson but looking to see how much its like one, as We do Heritage and Eastman and etc..... Its a very well made Instrument from a legend company that has its own sound and place in History,Like everything else. What`s it worth to ya, I would settle for a cheaper model myself but I believe those Guitars are worth what their asking. imo... Thanks Trogly,,Long time follower..Much love..

Sold me on the sound demo. Wow… even distorted, what a great tone. Im a big fan of both brands, but wanted to hear a good tone review of this (I’m in the same boat as far as finish- vintage burst looks better than the clown burst, but the chrome pickup covers 🤤🤤🤤) Been waiting a long time for this review, amazing job!

I've had a Royal Tan for about three months now, and it looks much better than this video. It's too saturated. While the video looks like it goes from orange to red, in reality it goes from a light amber to a light burnt orange.

Forgive my ignorance, I’m kinda new to the guitar market, but why am I seeing some Casino’s priced under £500 and then others over a £1k, despite these not being vintage models? Probably a dumb question but is it the pickups/material quality?
