Beautiful place really when I was a kid in San Pedro California that's where I live we used to be able to go down to the water like you are doing and get abalone all over the place then people started to come down and take every goddamn abalone small bigger or whatever and wiped them out really it's just so terrible now the only place you can really get them it's up north they've come back locally but you can't take them there's been a moratorium for the last 20 years in Southern California now they're used to be a cave on Santa Barbara Islands a little island in the islands out here off of the coast of Southern California at low load low tide You could bring your guinea in to this new cave and it had pinks and reds abalones and they were big ones too of course the last time I was there was about 40 years ago I have been back since by the way sea urgent is great that's one of my favorite foods it really is You can cook with it and makes great over pasta it melts into the pasta and it's wonderful but I like it raw

I did see something about the collection of abalone in some part of California had been closed for a number of years. The abalone here were almost wiped out in the 60s 70s strict new laws were introduced. No export, no diving, a size limit and only certain days in the winter can they be collected from the shore. In the 80s you would be lucky to find six. Now they are making a big comeback and of course more people go now than ever. As long as the laws are kept in place and many of the rocks turned back the abalone population should be ok .

Can I request another Ormer cooking tutorial, please! We get Paua here and all that it is used for is fritters! I'd like to try one of YOUR methods and recipes, please! Especially the one that is made into a slow-cooked casserole! Ta! xxx

Hi Troj, I’m from jersey and do a fair bit of this myself. Is it true that below the low water mark on a spring tide ormers are quite abundant and what one finds above the low water mark is essentially the tip of the proverbial iceberg? Enjoying the channel cheers J

I have heard people say this before and there are some places that may have a few but in my experience the ormers live in a very specific band. As you go deeper you lose the seaweed that the ormers prefer to eat due to the lack of sunlight. I often find the really big tides dont necessarily produce more but you will get bigger ormers that have previously been out of reach.

Think you need to invest in a better camera for these outside videos, on the boat it's top notch best of luck to you both 👍

Are the shells nice colours inside? Do you put the back on the beach when you finish with them?
@deadpixel777 күн бұрын
There kind of pearl color,a lot of locals use them to decorate walls in there gardens

I used to send some to a man in Germany who used to insert the shell into violins and other instruments but most end up in the vegetable garden.

You may want to check your settings (cog wheel bottom right). They are filmed in 4k and this camera was only bought last year.
