Trolleybuses of Central Moscow or “The day when six routes terminated”

On May 2, 2016 the following trolleybus routes in Moscow were cancelled.
1. Nagatinskaya Metro St. - Botkin Hospital
2. Fili - Kitay Gorod Metro St.
9. Ostankino Hotel - Lubyanskaya Sq.
15. VDNH South - Luzhnetsky Proezd
31. Luzhniki Stadium South - Trubnaya Sq.
44. Park Pobedy Metro St. - Alexandrovsky Sad Metro St.
The following trolleybus routes were shortened to the border of the central area of the city.
12. Sokol Metro Station - Kitay Gorod Metro Sta.
(shortened to Belorussky Railway Station)
33. Kravchenko St. - Kitay Gorod Metro Sta.
(shortened to Udarnik Cinema)
These were the majority of trolleybuses that served the central part of Moscow. Some routes operated since 1933. Trolleybuses on these routes are replaced by diesel buses.
It is most likely that trolleybuses in Moscow will continue to be replaced by diesel buses.

2 мая 2016 года следующие маршруты Московского троллейбуса были отменены.
1. Метро «Нагатинская» - Больница имени Боткина
2. Фили - Метро «Китай-город»
9. Гостиница «Останкино» - Лубянская площадь
15. ВДНХ (южная) - Лужнецкий проезд
31. Стадион «Лужники» (южная) - Трубная Площадь
44. Метро «Парк Победы» - Метро «Александровский сад»
Следующие маршруты московского троллейбуса были укорочены до границ центра города.
12. Метро «Сокол» - Метро «Китай-Город»
(укорочен до Белорусского вокзала)
33. Улица Кравченко - Метро «Китай-Город»
(укорочен до кинотеатра «Ударник»)
Это было большинство троллейбусов в центральной части города. Некоторые маршруты действовали с 1933 года.
Троллейбусы на отменённых маршрутах заменены дизельными автобусами.
Скорее всего замена троллейбусов на дизельные автобусы в Москве будет продолжаться.

Очень хорошие съёмки, спасибо! Раз в полгода смотрю, иногда слёзы наворачиваются.. жалко, что троллейбусы там никогда уже не проедут, хотя, возможность такая может появиться, на автономном ходу, но вероятность крайне мала..

Beijing is doing the exact opposite - converting diesel bus routes to trolleybus routes and the conversion is still ongoing. Many diesel bus routes in Beijing have been converted to trolleybus routes in the past 3-4 years. Shame on Moscow.

Oh,my God!!!Why is this happening!!!How Terrible!!!Too Bad!!!Much more (diesel) bus routes should be replaced by those trolleybuses,rather than be replaced by (diesel) buses!!!It's not like this at all!!!It's well known that there's the world's biggest trolleybus public transit system in Moscow,and this is just a unique symbol or outstanding sign of the city for many years.I think we should cherish this,treat them well like the precious thing it is!!!Only the trolleybus is the true zero-emission.We should not only retain the existing trolleybus routes bus also develop the newest advanced type of trolleybuses and open up the new trolleybus routes in the city.It's really simple,because trolleybus has the feature of lower air pollution,lower noise,energy saving,high efficiency and so on,namely that it has the great advantage in protecting environment,low-carbon emissions and green future.And the dual-mode trolleybus(come with on-board batteries power source,such a type of trolleybus can be driven by the power of storage batteries) will realize to prolong the running distance at the sections without overhead power supply wires,and this can greatly enhance the capability of the mobility and flexibility of driving on the street/road.So it deserves to retain and further develop continuously in the future,So I call for the news media and relevant government departments to take actions to realize to retain and further develop the Moscow city's trolleybus transit system,I wish they would do it with concrete actions,make their constant efforts and contributions in order to realize the goal of the development way in energy saving,low-carbon emissions and environment protection,as well try their best to create a sustainable development way and a green future!!!All my best wishes to you,Free chat!See you,Good luck *^_^*

that is typical for Moscow and for Russia. but especially for Moscow. the authorities act like they are independent, but they are not independent in their minds and hearts. in many, certain points they look always what the others do, especially what the West (especially US) does and in recent times also what China does. the irony is that Russia rejects some good stuff from its western neigbours but in sametime replaces its own elements with wrong ideas from its neighbours. Germany barely has trolleybus systems, but Berlin for example will develope in future a ebus system which uses the trolleybus concept in combination with the battery solution. when Moscow will notice that Berlin and Beijing want to use also trolleybus systems because of the innovative points, they will ask themselves why Moscow didn't improved and developed a new intelligent concept with its biggest city-trolleybus system in the world instead as so often in Russian history, throw everything away. Russia really needs to learn to appreciate its special features in all areas and use it for its benefits.

what is it with Russians dismantling trams and trolley buses? Moscow should be lucky to have a variety of electric transport Where i live there’s only buses and commuter rail and the streets are very choked

There exists a corruption scheme in Moscow which involves "replacement electric buses", which is widely attributed as the main reason for trolleybus network destruction. Officials in other cities like Dzerzhinsk most likely do not want to spend money that can be pocketed on municipal electric networks, instead of letting the private marshrutka operators fill the gap.

+Jere Cullen Fortunately there's no imminent threat to most of the routes, including the most famous 'B'. What's even better, that there are plenty of people who also think that replacing trolleybuses by buses is bad move, so transit activists launched a big media campaign, and the city is being bombarded with letters. P. S. I was wrong, a year later trolleybuses are still being pushed out of the city's centre and the campaign to save trolleybuses failed.
