Looks like a good one. I haven't used a trolling motor in awhile. Great to have for sure! Greetings from Canada!

Love how you set this up. I like how you did not have to remove the control head of the motor. What setting do you keep it on with the manual handle. Does it go in reverse even though the handle is in a forward position? thanks
@Intimidator82 Жыл бұрын
The handle on mine has 1-5 forwards and 1-3 reverse. The handle stays in forward 5. The reverse works by switching the switch on the PWM box. There is no need to touch the speed control on the motor to switch directions. The handle is essentially only used for steering in my application. Thanks for the question, hope this helps.

Nice set up. Wondering if you have your fish finder connected to the same battery and if so how are you avoiding interference
@Intimidator82 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Yes, I do have it connected to the same battery. I have not seen any interference at any speed. My fish finder is a Garmin Striker 4, just a cheapy but it works well in the canoe. My battery is usually 4 or 5 feet away from the transducer, but the PWM is almost beside the transducer on the canoe.

I found I could not run my trolling motor wide open without the PWM stating to smell like burnt plastic. Now it quit working with the variable speed switch. I guess if you run less than 75% you will be alright, but faster than that and you will probably burn out the PWM.
@Intimidator82 Жыл бұрын
I've run mine wide open for about 45 minutes at 100%, it pushes the canoe along about 4mph+. I was running the fan that I have mounted and all seems ok for now.

hello good morning friend the more voltaje that is supplied to thet motor the more speed and in that voltage that is driving it what máximum speed can it go

If you hit the reverse portion on the pwm switch do you also have to turn the handle on the trolling motor to reverse position? Thanks
@Intimidator823 жыл бұрын
Nope. That's the beauty of this whole setup. The trolling motor handle will stay at max speed in forwards. All of your speed and direction control is done on the box.

Freaking awesome thank you I’m going with this route thanks for the video idea

Now that you've had the PWM controller up and running for a few years, is it still performing OK? I read many complaints about these controllers, specifically from China, not lasting very long. No doubt many factors can affect the longevity, such as wire gauge, etc.. Curious how yours is holding up. Nice build, btw.

Yeah, so far so good. I didn't get out with it a whole lot this year, but everything is still working good. I think the biggest enemy of these would be water. Thanks for watching and commenting

Love the pwm set up! Where did you get that little fan? A lot of guys have their cheap pwms. Burn up on them, I want to go that route but not burn mine up 👍

I got the fan at a surplus store. I think you could find them at a radio Shack, the source, Amazon and eBay. Here is a link to a fan I found on Amazon. This is the size I have. www.amazon.com/dp/B07V2BHFGK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_Qjk1FbERJ8RSS

Any issues sterring and controlling the speed separately? I have aTM on the side of my kayak and thought it might be difficult managing the steering and speed control in 2 spots. Thanks!
@Intimidator824 жыл бұрын
It's not too bad once you are on to it. I'm not travelling at break neck speeds either. Lol it tops out at 8 kmh or 5 mph. It definitely steers better when the trolling motor is directly out the back as apposed to out the side on a rigger setup. It's usually set the speed and go, whether trolling or driving spot to spot. Some guys in kayaks have rudder controls and leave the motor straight and just use their feet to rudder the turn instead. Either way, it sure beats paddling a 350lb loaded canoe

May I ask how many amps/h is your battery capacity ? Also what kind of battery is that ? ( Lithium /AGM /Deep cycle ...) . Many thanks
@Intimidator823 жыл бұрын
It's a motomaster nautilus 935 amp marine cranking deep cycle. 100 minute reserve capacity and a 50 amp hour rating. It's a non-spillable model. I'm not sure if it's a gel battery, it doesn't say anywhere. Anyways, its the cheaper knock off of an optima blue top battery

Does the PWM get hot? How often would you have to use the fan?
@Intimidator823 жыл бұрын
I haven't really tested it to see if it gets 'hot', but it certainly gets warm to the touch. For as little as the fan draws I leave it on all the time when the motor is running. When I shut the trolling motor off then I shut the fan off too. Maybe this year when, or if I get out I will take some temp readings just to see what kind of numbers we're looking at operating wise.

Hey great video, can the controller steer the boat left & right?
@Intimidator823 жыл бұрын
The unit I have will not. To steer the unit I think you would want unmodulated power anyway. There could be a unit that has that capability, but I am unaware
@markweatherall74373 жыл бұрын
@@Intimidator82 Ok thanks for quick reply. How is the boat steered when using the unit?
@Intimidator823 жыл бұрын
@@markweatherall7437 I know guys with kayaks Mount the motor straight then just use the rudder to turn but for me on my canoe I just reach back and turn the motor itself. I have made a wooden Dowling extension handle for when the motor is mounted on the rear just so I can reach it

Where did you get controller from

I got it off of eBay. There are several models available. I wanted a digital display and a 50amp unit for my setup. Pretty sure you can get them on Amazon too
