Trolling Puget Sound for Coho! (Washington Salmon Fishing)

On this episode of Life Outdoors, we are trolling Puget Sound for Coho Salmon! My roommate Riley and I were invited out by Connor of Rated R fishing to try to chase after these beautiful Washington fish. It's common is Cali to fish with a 2lb ball, it has a release pin that drops the lead when you hook a fish

Hey Connor is it possible for you to give me some pointers about the area there I’m a disabled veteran and mostly fish point defiance I would love to try a new place I brought a 18 foot aluminum boat and haven’t used it a lot since I had back surgery thanks for your help

Hey @carlossales no problem, what exactly would you like to know? We mostly fish meadow point, Jeff head and the Edmonds oil docks, 100-200 ft for kings (40-120 on downrigger), and 200-400 ft for cohos(30-100 on downrigger). Hoochies behind flashers and spoons behind flashers. I go about 2.7 mph for both kings and cohos. Anything else you’d like to know just ask, hope this helps!

@@carlossales8710 yeah that should be plenty, I run a 16 ft smoker craft with a 60 hp and I have no troubles. There’s 3 main launches for area 10, don armeni (Elliot bay), shilshole (Ballard) (my preferred launch), and Kingston (west side of the sound). I went out most days during the summer the only exception for me would be if the wind waves were above 3ft (anything more then 15 mph wind would make for uncomfortable fishing for me). sup dude remember me I was looking thru my sub list and I remebered your channel I couldnt get any steelhead on the fly last season but i got lots of huge suckers. Also now its salmon season in ny and i am float fishing for them havent caught on yet tho

Is it possible to troll a simple diver like a 30' diving Rapala or Nomad and get action on salmon? Or is a downrigger a necessity to get the lure down far enough?

I believe that you could troll a super deep diver and be just fine, the downriggers simply make it more precise so you know exactly how far down you are.

How do you like trolling I tried it and it almost felt like bottom fishing and I never Didi it again not my style of fishing I like to feel them grab that hook or when you set the hook and watch them go
