That was a proper European tour on the way to winning the trophy. Eastern Europe for Slovan Bratislava. Up in Arctic Circle for Tromsø. Then right down to Southern Spain and Real Betis. Vicenza in Northern Italy in the semi's before beating Stuttgart in Stockholm. Nice little touch in Tromsø when they handed out commemorative chocolate bars to the visiting fans.

It's a paradox that the snow helped Chelsea. TIL (Tromsø IL) was much better before the snow. I took care of the journalists that day and I was talking to Trevor Brooking during the match, and he agreed with me.

I remember watching this game and it was pretty surreal. The snow got that bad to the point they kept having to stop the game to sort out the pitch markings. The conditions were certainly a leveller and were the main reason Tromso won this match. Chelsea's extra quality ended up showing in the 2nd leg.
