This port report is from Trondheim, Norway, where we sailed with Holland America Line. We cover the port basics and our experience touring this fabulous city. We visit Rockheim, Nidaros Cathedral and Archbishop’s Palace, Bakklandet, the awesome thrift store Fretex Bruktbutikk, and Stiftsgarden Park.

The Port Lowdown offers detailed and fun video guides for cruise ports and destinations, helping independent, budget-minded travelers save time and money. We found that many videos lack the details we needed, such as parking, restrooms, available services, and even sidewalk quality. We act as your “port scout”, providing first-hand reports on essential information that others overlook; our videos cover port terminals, independent excursions, goods, services, transportation and even ship tours. With time ticking away during your port visit, we understand the importance of sound planning to make every moment count. Let us give you the Lowdown!

Thanks for a nice quick guide to my home city :) For a "short" port stop I think you pretty much nailed it.

I have watched several of your videos and they are very good. I look forward to seeing more. I watch a lot of travel videos and one area that I don't think is covered well is the use of cell phones in foreign countries. I think someone could have a very good series on how you would get your phone to work in foreign countries. It would be particularly helpful to describe how you could get your phone to work in each port. Or a plan that would cover several ports. This is becoming more important as phone are used more for Uber, Lyft, Maps, bike rental, eTickets, etc. Thanks again for your videos.

Thanks so much! From your comment, we decided to make a video on this subject, as part of our travel skills series (tips). While we're in Europe this summer, we'll consider how to shape this content. Let us know if you have any more thoughts on the subject. In the meantime, it will be several months before we can finish it since we're on the road, so to speak. Take care and thanks again!

Cool video! A small correction: Olav Tryggvasson and St. Olav (patron saint of Norway) are two different people. Olav Tryggvasson (Olav the First) was (supposedly) the founder of Trondheim. Olav Haraldsson (Olav the Second aka Olav the Holy) is the king who is (supposedly) buried beneath Nidaros Cathedral :)

Hm. Internet research can be tricky. My sources need to be schooled! Anyway, thanks for the correction! This was one of the Norway cities we enjoyed the most.
