My two cents (from Australia) I had drift problems with both blue and red controllers. I blew on the exposed section (lifting the rubber skirt below the knob of the joystick, sounds wrong maybe, but whatever), Turned the controller upside down and rubbed with a toothbrush, updated the Switch, updated the controllers and callibrated and recallibrated and it did absolutley NOTHING. Watched a video about using a non conductive contact cleaner. So I went to Bunnings and got a WD40 Specialist Fast Drying Contact Cleaner "penetrates quickly and leaves no residue. For use on electrical equipment, contacts plastic & rubber" Cost about $17. Didn't know it would work, but thought I'd take the risk before forking out $120 for a new pair of controllers. With the help of another, I lifted the skirting of the red joystick using a large pin and shot on two sides of the joystick using the cleaner, which came with a long yellow straw for precision application. Incredibly, almost magically, the red controller worked good as new after first letting it dry (to air) for about 10 minutes. I tried the blue controller and found it more troublesome. It consistently drifted north. I tried it once, twice and no change On the third try I applied the spray to the east and west sides of the joystick and after reconnecting and a quick rotation, it also now works good as new. I can't say this will work for you. But thought I'd share my experience in case you're at wits end and thinking about ordering new controllers. Good luck.

Thanks for the tutorial! I managed to replace my left-joycon thumb control. To others, this video glosses over some details. Doable, but maybe not for the novice. Disconnecting and reconnecting ribbon cables isn't as easy is it seems in this video. Notice the edits in the video when he is doing the step of connecting those and putting everything back together. Make sure you have some needle-nose tweezers and some plastic prying tools, along with the screw drivers. Take pictures along the way and don't get flustered.

One bit of advice: After you install the new joystick CALIBRATE THE CONTROLLER! I bought the exact replacement joystick, followed this tutorial exactly, turned on my system, and the drift was far worse than before. I was so frustrated at the thought that I'd wasted the time to do this and I'd still have to spend $80 on a new set of joycons anyway. Then my husband got home and I showed him, and he suggested calibrating the new joystick. I can't believe I didn't think of that on my own. It worked, and now my joycons are usable again!

thx, man. This worked and i only lost one screw! If you're doing this and you have no practice just go slow. Stop when you get agitated. When the buttons pop out of place just disassemble everything but the ribbons and see how it all fits together, no short cuts. The only ribbon I had to pull was the joycon ribbon. They just pull out with a tweezers, there's no clip action or anything. I really like these controllers but the drifting is maddening and a new set of joy cons only lasts half a year. Nintendo needs to redesign the control stick and do a recall, this issue is no joke. I'd be more mad but replacing the stick was sort of fun.

What if you replace the joystick and the same problem persists even after attempting a reset and recalibration? Someone suggested WD-40 Contact Cleaner but if the joystick is entirely new then cleaning it seems unnecessary. What other problems could there be? Is the controller just a lost cause?

Thank you. These joycons just seem to spontaneously fall apart. As a regular dad, I fixed 4 SL/SR ribbons, but a bad Joy Con Stick press was the newest issue. I had one Joycon I have been using for parts, and with these instructions I was able to do a transplant. Apparently the right and left sticks are the same part. Also, I did take some comment advice: RECALIBRATE after you replace the stick.
@CForce6 жыл бұрын
Guide was very helpful in replacing my out of warranty joycon sticks. For those that have this issue make sure if its within a year (or 90 days for additional joycons) that you let Nintendo repair them for free first. I had to start replacing my own sticks after my warranty ran out but I did have them repair some before I spent any money on parts. It is pretty silly these sticks seem to be failing so quick but at least make Nintendo Support work for you before you take it upon yourself.

I know this is a year old and I'm just commenting for fun but tweezers will help immensely with this. I fixed a couple joy-cons for friends and family and I did it without seeing any videos on it first, and I had to run to the store to grab tweezers to hold the cable and push it into the latch after fighting with the ribbon cable for the trigger for about an hour with no success because there's almost no slack in the ribbon cable. Otherwise, just flip up the latch with a fingernail (or tweezers but be gentle), and flip down with your finger. Don't use tweezers to press those down or you'll be like me and break the latch off of your 3DS screen connector (which I still haven't fixed...) Best of luck to whoever needs this random information.

My switch for example has a short somewhere and im getting very strange voltage readings on the board. As i dont have a working switch laying around i cant compare the measurments to know if that part of the board is working properly or not. As you know there is next to none information about switch board schematics and stuff like that. Im sure that would be a REAL big help.

I might do that if I get time...not sure if that will happen but I'll def keep that in mind.
@mgzukows6 жыл бұрын
If you have a short it will get hot where the short is. So what you will want to do is take a power supply and set it to something like 1 volt. You will want to inject voltage on the suspected rail. Which will be enough to heat up the area but not cause any damage. Another good way to test is put your meter in diode mode and look for a direct short to ground on the rails you are getting a strange voltage on. Then check the resistance to ground, if it's a low resistance that's your short. Use the alcohol method then to find the exact component. Then if you don't have an IR camera you can put alcohol on the suspected area and if it's getting hot the alcohol will evaporate very quickly.

WARNING TO EVERYONE TRYING TO FIX THE RIGHT JOY-CON: do not unplug the flex cable that sits on the side of the analog stick flex cable. It's damn hard to put it back in. Instead, follow the video and remove the R button and unscrew it from there.

Wow, your not helpful, most of us are children who are also very clumsy. My problem is that the thumb test won’t go back in the thing and when it does it falls out and does not go up. Can someone fix this problem???

I sent my ps4 to you a week ago, did you get it?

There's no way for me to know that. If you can let me know the full name on the order, order number, etc. I can look it up. Also, contact us on our website as we don't get notified of replies to comments.

I think Nintendo built the joystick with very cheap material to force us to buy the pro controller.

@@ElPalcoTigreHermano Well I have a PSvita over 5 year and do play a lot fighting games, and it is still great.

@@brunogava6424 yes, I mean it's a big mistake if they did that intentionally because the pro controller it's not 100% mobile
